“Amazing Honeymoon at OBBR”

Oyster Bay Beach Resort

May 20, 2008
4/5 found this review helpful

I just got back from an amazing week at oyster bay. The resort has a great location on the island, it is secluded away from all the traffic and noise, although if you plan on seeing the island this means it will cause you to rent a car starting at only $38 a day. The resort itself is beautiful, although I did stay in an oceanview condo, if your lucky enough to have one of these units it changes the entire outlook of the resort. An oceanview room gives you the most ideal view you can imagine its simply an amazing view of the beach and the ocean as far as the eye can see. You can even see nearby anguilla. The rest of the grounds and hotel itself are pretty close to immaculate. It has 3 onsite restaurants, busbys which is very expensive for dinner but cheap during the afternoon, beau beaus which is overall a good restuarant which has some fun entertainment and a good bbq buffet. And the last restaurant is Infinity, its located right in the lobby and has the most delicous food I had while on the island. The pool at the resort was my favorite part of probably my whole vacation go on the resorts website to see pictures. Dawn beach the beach located right on the property is great but definitly explore other beaches on the island as well they are all different, I found orient beach to be the most beautiful. One must is to do the Captain Alan snorkeling trip, its 3 islands of amazing snorkeling, trust me it is a great trip. Talk to the activities desk, and you can get one person free. My only complaint about the resort is the ongoing construction that they are conducting while adding on more units, the noise only bothers you between 7-4 right next to the pool. This is a beautiful resort that is secluded, yet 10 mins from phillipsburg. I highly recommend staying here, it is amazing.

“Great resort on beautiful beach!”

Oyster Bay Beach Resort

We stayed at Oyster Bay Beach Resort for a week in May. The staff was very accomodating from the minute I arrived. We were able to rent a car right in the lobby. The rooms are very spacious and were cleaned perfectly each day. The hotel has a very nice pool and is located on Dawn Beach. There is a little beach bar on Dawn Beach called Busby's that sells breakfast and lunch and beers from 75 cents from 11am - 4pm. There is great snorkeling right off Dawn Beach. We checked out many other beaches on the island and found our beach to be one of the best. I highly recommend staying at OBBR. Our room faced the harbor and we spent a lot of time enjoying the view from our deck. I recommend bringing bug spray; there were some mosquitoes in May.

“Wonderful Time in SXM!!”

Oyster Bay Beach Resort

We LOVE SXM!! OBBR is a great value & a very nice resort. Oct 2008 will be our 8th stay... I agree with other reviews to avoid at all cost Infinity & Mr Busby's/Daniel by the Sea... Beau Beau's is OK for lunch but I would avoid it for dinner.... Way to many wonderful places to eat in Grand Case, Marigot & around the resort. Big Fish is great & Le Platuer is one of our favs!! What a view for dinner!! A Must is a trip into Grand Case at least once. The food is excellent & the views are memorable! Some of our favorites there have closed but there are still wonderful places such as Fish Pot & Le Testivin on the water & Spigot inland!! Expensive but great! Sad to see that Sabastiano's & Rainbow closed... Our first trip to OBBR was 2000.. It was like our own quiet anniversary getaway... Its grown alot since... Not as quiet & nice but we still like it.... Has anyone eaten at the Westin since that was built?? Enjoy SXM!! Our favotite vaca!! Bond-Daddy

“clean and wonderful,,,,”

Oyster Bay Beach Resort

We have been to this resort many times and love it time and time again...i will tell you, it has become very populated over the past two years due to more rooms being built. The pool is gorgeous, drinks wonderful, and people are nice. I have encountered a maid or two which I did not like, but that happens everywhere you go. The St. Barths day trip is fun, but expensive so bring some extra cash. Try Lees fishery for lunch in St. Maarten, and we are fans of Johnny B's Under the Tree for grilled lobster and ribs!
I would also be sure to call the hotel in advance and request a room with either a pool, beach, or marina view to enjoy both day and evening.

Confirmed our reservation (time-share trade) a few days in advance just to make sure there would be no problems on arrival. Arrived at 11 pm on Sat. due to weather delay. We were told there was no room for us. I told her we had a reservation and that I had even confirmed it just a few days prior. I was told, very unapologetically, that they had my reservation, but that there was simply no room for us. We were sent to the nearby Westin Dawn Beach Hotel (very nice...see my review on that) and told OBBR would contact us when they were "ready" for us. Tues. we got a note from the front desk of the Westin telling us to call OBBR. I did and was told they tried to call us the day before (Mon.) but we never called back (never got a message from them). I was also told that the person I needed to speak to was not in yet, but could I wait by the phone for their call, they'd be in in the next couple hours. I said I wasn't about to sit by the phone and wait when the sun was shining outside. I waited 1/2 and called back and got the mgr. Explained the situation and was told she'd see if there was a room for us now (?!?!). I said, I thought there was, and that was why you were calling us!!! She'd said she would get back to me, and could I wait by the phone a little longer. I said no. She put me on hold and then told me the room was being cleaned but would be ready later that AM.

The room (efficiency) was OK, small, a little run down. It smelled heavily of Lysol disinfecting spray when we walked in (enough to make me start coughing). After that smell wore away, it smelled a little like poop. Anyways, the view of the marina was great. Construction (blocking our view of the ocean) started at 7 am every morning. A maid came and brought new towels and made the bed each day. The pool was great, they had happy hour at 4 pm (2 for 1 drinks).

To compensate us for our troubles (unpacking, packing, unpacking, waiting...etc.) the mgmt said they would not charge us our exchange fee, so it saved us about $130.
