My family decided very late to go on vacation for christmas. By the time we started looking on St Martin, everything was sold out. Did a lot of internet research and when The Oyster Bay Beach Resort had room, I decided to go for it. Ninoska, who handled my reservation over the telephone, was a pro. She convinced me that this was the place for us. The drive from the airport is very long and confusing. It took us forever and we are from the Caribbean ourselves. When I got there, i didn't like it at all. It seemed old and dingy. The reception area and the entire hotel seemed to be in dire need of being upgraded. Just not my type of hotel. The room was great though - it was all that was left - but it was wonderful. A comfortable airy loft overlooking the pool. I nonetheless i tried to find a new location - but none was available. In the end I was glad that we didn't. The staff was extremely friendly, breakfast was lovely, the drinks were good, the beach was great and Mr/ Busby's just down the road, served fabulous dinners and decent lunches right on the beach. The road to Grand Case, where all the great restaurants are, is somewhat treacherous at night, but we ended up having a great family vacation.

“OBBR was okay...”

We were at OBBR for 5 days in November and overall our stay was fine. OBBR is a little out of the way and a rental car was a necessity to get around. Finding it in the dark can be pretty difficult as the streets are not well marked.

Our room was fine, with a great view! The pool was incredible and the happy specials are very good. I found the service to be spotty... There were several instances that I felt that the service was actually poor.

I would go back to St. Martin but do not think that I would stay at OBBR.

The OBBR was amazing. We loved it from the moment we got there. The driving from the airport was a little confusing but once you get the hang of the roads - it is not bad - even kind of fun! The resort was great - they had activities everyday. The pool was cool, never that crowded and overlooks the ocean water with an amazing view. The bar at the hotel was great with happy hour 2 for 1 drinks everyday. The construction going on is not that bad and you can only hear it while by the pool but it didn't stop us from going in the pool.
We got a car which was very helpful. The most we drive was about a half an hour but the scenery was so nice or interesting that it went by really fast.
We did various activities off site but they helped set them up at the activities desk at the hotel.
We did the Rhino Rides by Pineapple Pete's and that was a blast! Definitely recommend that for anyone up for an adventure - ask for Oliver.
We also did the 3 island snorkeling with Alan and Colleen. That was such an amazing day. You see so many fish, go in a mud bath and go on a "awesome" boat ride. I think the website is [--].
We went on the sunset sail. It was so nice, they give you all the drinks and food you want. The sunset was such a sight!. It was the Lord Chesterfield ship.
We went to Orient Beach - wow! Be prepared for a lot of nude men and woman. It is totally cool to be in your full bathing suit. Lots of little places to get drinks and food!
Make sure you get to Grand Case...it is such a cute little area and go to "Talk of the Town" for lunch...great food and experience.

Overall - this was our favorite vacation...I think it is hard to do but it was even better than Aruba!

This was a timeshare swap from the Aruba Marriott Surf Club. The resort was nice, but far from all the activity of the island. It's located next the new Westin and you will need a car to get anywhere. And the roads can be dangerous.
We ventured (3 couples) into Phillipsburg for dinner and it took us 45 minutes to an hour in traffic one evening to get to the Sonesta Maho area. The gas fumes from all the cars was nausiating. If you want to stay at a resort, enjoy the beach and nothing else, this is a good place to stay. We heard stories about construction and received numerous letters from Interval Internations about new construction, but this was not an issue at all. We did not hear or see any construction that would interfer with the vacation. We did have a problem with little sugar ants all over the kitchen counters and they promptly came and sprayed day after day, but we still had to put everything in the refrigerator.
Spent some time at the Westin since it was so close. Will maybe return to St Martin but not anytime soon. Too much
rushing like at home......too much traveling to good restaurants. Maybe it was the location but I'll Take ARUBA anytime over St Martin.
I am also a travel agent............

Resort was great, nice and relaxing should have been warned by the resort when checking in of the insects around the resort and island. I received so many bites on my legs I don't known if they will scar or not. Was sick for a day from the bites. The resort should warn people about this the insects.
