On a recent cruise I took a shore excursion that visited both sides of the island. Leaving from the dock we bused past Phillipsburg (the dutch capital), past the salt pond near the city and up to a look-out point where we could see the islands of St Barts, St Eustache and St Kitts. It was a little hazy that day or we could have seen more. We continued our tour past a few large resorts. We could see the Queen Juliana Airport in the distance. We continued our tour along the coast to the French side and into the capital, Marigot. We stopped for a 45 minute break to do some shopping and take pictures. It was very quaint. We then drove on through Grand Case and the driver pointed out some French Colonial homes that survived a major hurricane in 1999 (hurricane Jose). We made our way back to the Dutch capital and were dropped off to do some shopping and our tour ended. It was well worth the $24.
