We just got back from a 5 night stay in an ocean view room. I could go on and on about why I wouldn't go back or recommend the property but here is a short list of things that need improvement:
1) The beach is rough and drops off to a bunch of underwater coral/rocks. Makes it not very safe/inviting to swim in. I know this isn't in the hotel's control, but I would recommend staying at a resort on the west side of the island where the water is calm and sheltered.
2) No ATM on site. Are you kidding me? Why have a casino if there is no ATM? The closest ATM is at the Oyster Bay resort next door which is a $14 round trip cab ride.
3) Only two restaurants open. We went to Ocean for dinner the first night and couldn't believe how mediocre the food was for such a high price. We didn't even give the other "high-end" restaurant a chance. The wait staff was learning how to open and serve bottles of wine at our table. At least do the training behind closed doors in a training program.
4) The place currently looks like a mess. The pool area is very nice but you walk out towards any other part of the hotel and there is heavy machinery around and a bunch of people doing loud work which is in no way relaxing.
5) Heavenly bath was in no way heavenly. Maybe it was a temporary tub so they could get the room open, but it was worse than a motel 6. I wish I had taken a picture.
Although the Westin did have a discounted rate for this stay as a special, it did not make up for how unrelaxing and mediocre the visit was. They should have included free dinner/breakfast or some other promo to really make it worth it to stay at the resort at such an unfinished stage of construction. It was in no way worth $199 a night at its current stage and if you are looking for a relaxing calm caribbean beach environment, I would argue that it will never be worth $199 a night.
