“Great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2013

Hotel was very accomodating and well maintained. Beach was terrific. Location was very good, especially if you had a car to get to restaurants and towns. Personnel at hotel were very helpful, friendly and courteous. Concierge knew all the good restaurants. Rooms were refurbished, clean and well maintained.

This is our third location in 2 weeks...Sapphire Beach Club, Ocean Club and Westin...absolutely no comparison!!! Oyster Pond is a new location for me, more familiar with Cupecoy, but the Westin is beautiful...what can I say:):):) It is very nice to walk out of hotel onto the beach and the pool is huge...and gorgeous; the bed is fantastic, the kitchen is updated...love it!!!!!

We stayed at the Westin in St. Martin because the two couples we were traveling with had Starwood points. My husband and I just went with the flow, signed up for a Starwood card and got 30% off of our room rate...and an upgrade to an ocean front room. The view was amazing, the rooms and hotel were very clean, the pool was nice (and not too crowded -- we went during the President's Day weekend and we're pleasantly surprised), and the beach was fantastic. The ocean was so clean, it was like you were swimming in a pool. Also, the drinks were reasonable considering we were at a resort and the food at the pool was really good (also very reasonably priced...around $8.50 for a fantastic chicken wrap and chips). The staff was very accommodating as well -- the concierge made our dinner reservations every night, the pool staff was fantastic and the bartenders were well-trained. I actually had one of the best cosmopolitans at the lobby bar. Great rate, clean room, accommodating staff, well-priced food and beverage and an incredibly nice beach...Not much more you can ask for on a Caribbean vacation, in my opinion. Also, the hotel is located near the border of the Dutch and French sides. It's only a 15 minute cab ride to Grand Case ($5 per person), 5 minute cab ride to Oyster Bay/ Pond ($3 per person) and about 25 minutes to the Sunset Beach Bar by the airport ($10 per person). A car was not necessary -- the staff at the Westin got us cabs within minutes. My husband and I travel quite often and both of us did not hesitate to say we would go back to St. Martin in the future. It's definitely our favorite island thus far!

My husband and I spent five nights in St. Maarten at the Westin Resort. It was a very memorable vacation. The resort was beautiful and located on beautiful Dawn Beach. The beach was small but very quiet and private. We liked the fact that it was not open to the public. We did have to take a taxi to go to any surrounding areas but several very good restaurants were only a few minutes away. You can easily rent a car which we chose not to do. Our room was immaculate and very spacious. The king size bed was extremely comfortable. We had a nice secluded porch which looked out to the ocean. We did not have an ocean front room but could view the ocean from the porch. The hotel had two restaurants which we ate at several times. We liked the buffet breakfast. It was pricey but there were many delicious breakfast choices. Food is expensive on the island but all of their food must be imported so of course you would pay more. Everyone working at the Westin was friendly and helpful. We especially liked David who checked with us daily to make sure everything was okay. We felt like we were constantly being pampered. The one drawback was the time share people who were annoying. We just kept telling them no. That was the only negative part of our stay. We would definitely return to the Westin since we enjoyed it so much.

Room Tip: Our room was on the lower level which we liked but if you want oceanfront you might be better off on...

We stayed at the Westin after going to a time share meeting. THis is not an all inclusive and meals can be pricey but the food is absolutely delicious! I had the calamari, the burger, the club sandwich and the tuna. I would recommend it all.

Pros:
-Beautiful pool
-Great customer service
-Wonderful modern, clean rooms
-Bar fridge (at a cost of course, but there for your convenience)
-Safety box
-Great food
-Car rental there if you need it
-Beachfront

Cons:
-beach (Dawn beach) was rough, but it could be the time of year (2nd week in Feb)
-about 30-40 minutes from the airport depending on traffic and can be a little out of the way, however, if you rent a car, nothing is far!!! Rent a car!!!
-cab could run your $30-35 to the airport

Tip:
-Go next door for breakfast, Busbys i think its called. Cheaper and breakfast is decent (eggs, toast, pancakes, etc.)
-Go to Orient Bay, not far from here. Lots of activities and you can rent all kinds of equipment.

This was a great hotel, the staff was friendly and outgoing and the concierge introduced us to a fantastic driver that we used for the entire 9 days of our stay.
My only complaint was that our room had sticky, dirty carpet which I imagine is par for the course being in a tropical location where people are putting on lotions and walking in with wet suits, but maybe a little clean up would be good.

I would like to ask the manager to recognize one of their employees that works in the pool/cabana area. Delores was a constant friendly face the entire trip. We spent almost every day down at the pool or beach and she always had a good word, a smile and was on top of anything we needed. She is the reason people continue to go back to places like the Westin. It is far away from everything but that kind of attention and service goes a long way.
She told one of the managers that it was our honeymoon and he supplied us with a bottle of champagne in our cabana and our room, that was an excellent touch of class.

Room Tip: Join the Starwood preferred guest program. We were already memebers but this trip it got us an ocean...

The room is excellent. A little slow making up the room in the morning. Actually never was done in the morning. The casino would be adequate if they opened more tables which they never did. My biggest complaint was the fact that there as no shade at the pool unless one wanted to rent a $100+/ day cabana. An umbrella even at a nominal cost would have made it possible to enjoy the pool all day. It seems the resort fee should have covered that.

Room Tip: The room we had was called ocean view and the view from the balcony was great. The room was quiet an...
