“Pristine beach, deserted island feel (with great food of course)”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2013

Snorkeling was pretty good (saw a sting ray) can't beat the white sand, calm atmosphere and great views. A MUST during a trip to Saint Martin. The ferry is easy and cheap ($7 round trip) and the food on the island, including the rum flambeed shrimp were fantastic. Can't miss this.

“the real postcard”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 19, 2013

if you're planning to go to sxm, you really have to go to Pinel as you arrive because you will certaily decide to go back during your stay (I do). If you don't want to do like everybody, I suggest you rent a kayak from Oswen at "caribbean paddling" (next to ferry dock) so you can enjoy being so close to the water that you can see sting rays and turtles on your way up to Pinel. It's easy and short crossing, and you don't have to wait for the ferry to go back when you decide to !

“Make sure you go to Pinel!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2013

Orient Bay is on the Atlantic Ocean. As such, it is not a tranquil bay much of the time. One of the areas in Orient Bay that is tranquil is Pinel Island (leeward side). We liked Pinel Island so much that we decided to go twice. The ferry boat leaves from the dock across from Pinel Island every half hour. It starts at 9:30 (first trip) and the last ferry leaves at 5:00. It is a wonderful island and make sure that when you go, you don't spend the entire time on the beach or in the restaurants. There are trails throughout the island (it's only the size of a couple of football fields) that lead you over to other beaches and reefs that are fabulous for snorkeling. This part of the island does face the Atlantic (windward), but the surf is quite tame. There are maps along the way where you can place yourself in relationship to the other islands (St.Barts, Saba, Anguilla, etc.). The trip costs you $7 round trip and that is in dollars (not euros). Yellow beach and Kabuni both have beaches there. Yellow beach is $20 and Kabuni is $25. Yellow beach does stack their chairs and umbrellas very close together. Go to Kabuni, it's worth the extra $5. They do not stack the chairs that close together. In addition, there is no dock over there. Seems like at Yellow Beach that people are always either walking in front of you or behind you.
If Kabuni is filled up, use Yellow Beach.

“What a nice Trip!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2013

Pinel Island is a really nice gem! Super easy to get to and really nice. GO Early in the AM, you will find it easier to select your real estate, Chairs. Fabain will take care of you when you arrive. Chairs are $25 for 2 chaise lounges and an umbrella. We found our selves grabbing lunch @ Karibuni later that afternoon, 1 of 2 restaurants on the island. Food was really good, but service was lacking. Great experience and super shallow clear waters!

“Beautiful French side”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 17, 2013

Had a wonderful time on Pinel Island especially when it started sprinkling and most people left. Nice getaway to relax and hike the island. $7 round trip. They have a nice giftshop with decent prices. Food is a little more expensive then i would pay: had an appitizer platter and it was $32. Where the ferry comes in to the ride to the island you will also find vendors which is nice while you await the boat.
