“Fun Day 'Away'”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 1, 2012

For the return fee of USD7.00 you are ferried over to a tiny island a very short distance away from St. Martin (french side). There is a beach bar and restaurant as well as a small boutique. The water is totally calm and great for kids. The beach bar serves up a really smooth sex on the beach but beware of the beach chair rental fee of USD10.00 per chair! You can also walk around the entire island, its an easy hike with beautiful views all round. Ferries are every hour.

“Go early, leave early”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 29, 2012

We took the 10:30 boat, not a lot of people. By 1:30, several boats floating in the swim area. Snorkling just okay. Best areas very shallow. French, so topless very common. Saw some locals cleaning fish at the remote end of the beach, so that's probably why ther is not much fish to see. They are fished and eaten.

“Wonderful day at Pinel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 28, 2012

The beach at Pinel is not to be missed, especially for younger children. The water stays very shallow for a long ways, and is a beautiful blue / crystal clear. The ferry will cost $7 each, roundtrip, but our 2 yr old was free.

The beach chairs and umbrella are $20 a day (monopolies are fun, people!) and the French restaurant on the island is also pricy, but will serve pretty decent food, without most of the typical French attitude.

We enjoyed this trip and would definitely go back.

Protip: If you get to the docks early enough, you can ride over with the local workers and have an hour or more on the island more or less to yourself. Also, if you rent a kayak, the island is very close to land (1/3 mile or so), depending on where you leave from; super easy for the more athletic/adventurous traveler.

“Beautiful deserted island”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 27, 2012

I have been living on Sint Maarten for over a year now and Pinel Island has to be one of my favorite places! The ferry is easily accessible and cheap. The island is mostly secluded except for the three restaurants. There are amazing views if you take a hike over to the opposite side from where you are dropped off. I absolutely loved my day on Pinel Island.

“Good escape from the main land”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 26, 2012

Although the parking lot where the ferry departs is less than desirable, it was a great adventure offshore.

The captain of the ferry was very friendly and full of information. The food, drinks and view were fantastic, and the snorkeling was pretty good (we had hoped to see more).
