Owner description: Maho Bay, on the southwestern shore, is Sint Maarten's main resort area. It feels a bit like the Las Vegas Strip: while little more than a block long, it's dense with multistory buildings housing exclusive jewellers, boutiques, art galleries, restaurants and a huge resort and casino. Maho Bay has a nice enough beach except that it's at the very end of the airport runway. The area is even marked with a sign warning beach goers that 'low flying and departing aircraft blast can cause physical injury!'

Omg, this thing is completely insane! Not only should visits to Maho Bay Beach be discouraged, they should be absolutely prohibited! On a recommendation, my gf and I stopped here to see the planes come in overhead. Pretty cool stuff, until a big jet landed and then taxied up the runway and turned its exhaust on us. Suddenly we were being painfully sandblasted with debris that imbedded itself in our skin deep enough to cause bleeding! Thank God we happened to be sitting with our back to it and not standing or we would have been blown over and swept into the sea! Also thank God the exhaust did not pick up any sharp pieces of metal or broken glass or we could have lost eyes, body parts...listen up people, I am NOT EXAGGERATING HERE!

We were totally shocked and unprepared for the violence of this event. What if we had a small child or infant with us?? There are huge signs all over the place warning of the possibility for severe injury or death, but we pooh-poohed them because this was a RECOMMENDED activity (by our hotel concierge) and there were so many other people casually and nonchalantly lounging on the beach. Most of them scrambled to leave after that, I can tell you!

So...SERIOUSLY...DO NOT DO THIS! Truly, I am SHOCKED that S.M. does not close this beach permanently. It's really crazy!

“Small but unique beach in St Martin”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 31, 2012

I recommend a quick stop at Maho Bay beach and enjoy watching the aircraft landing overhead at the Juliana Airport runway. It's one of those places that you have to experience on this island! Its a very small beach and parking is limited. I recommend that you try to be there around noon when all of the big planes arrive from the US.

“Great place to see the planes”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 18, 2012

This is the place if you want to see the big jets landing right overhead. The beach is ok for swimming. Do be prepared for topless sunbathers and swimmers... not a lot but a few. Because of the planes this is a top tourist attraction. You will get some great photos of the planes landing right overhead. There are two bars on either side of the beach the with food and bathrooms. Both are ok. Both also have beach chair and umbrella rentals. It is an interesting place to visit... once.

“Must see!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 30, 2012

We loved this little beach of Maho Bay in St Maarten! The beach was pretty small and fairly crowded while we were there but the water was Caribbean blue and gorgeous. There are beach bars on both ends of the beach for drinks and food. The jets landing/taking off is the main attraction which made for great photos and fun! We enjoyed watching the jets land overhead and watching the crazy people hanging onto the fence while jets took off. We saw grown men blown into the water during take off (so be careful). The only downside was that when the huge jets took off (only a few times during our trip), sand was blown everywhere... all over us and in all of our bags, towels, etc. The sand hurt too b/c the jet blast was so powerful. But it's all apart of the experience! We were on the cruise ship, and just took a taxi to/from Maho Bay.

“Great Time”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2012

First stop on our cruise we decided to check out Moho Beach. Beautiful beach with chairs and umbrellas available, full service bar and food right on the beach. The main attraction is the free airplane entertainment. They have all airplane arrivals by name, and time posted so you can prepare to capture some pictures/video. I never been to a beach that had it all like Moho before. Where else can you enjoy having a frosty beer in the water getting tan watching airplanes taking off and landing within 50 feet of you. What a great start to a great vacation. I'd have to say it is a "must see" attraction.
