I just returned from 8days in St. Martin. Love it there. I had not stayed at La Terrasse. I was impressed with the room. 5577, three bedroom penthouse. I enjoyed the location because there is a lot to do in Maho bay.

This was the second resort we stayed at on this trip to St. Maarten. The first place was awful so that may be why my impression of this place was so good. First off, the location was outstanding! Several things to do within a 2 minute walk. The staff at the front desk were very friendly, though a few times they were sleeping. The room itself, was clean, comfortable, and had great AC. The view was terrific. Though it is right next to the airport, with the sliding glass door to the balcony closed, noise was minimal. I would definately reccomend staying here and would certainly return.

First impressions not good, as the lobby is tired, but it's supposed to be in the middle of refurbishment, so maybe it will be better soon. Reception staff, when they were actually around, werent very helpful or informative. Everything seemed to be too much trouble. This from an island calling itself the 'friendly' island!
Staying at La Terrasse certainly makes you feel second class to its sister hotel across the road, La Plage. For example, you're not allowed to use their pool, even tho there are no facilities at the pool at La Terrasse. When I complained I was told 'its the management'. I went to guest services and they gave me a pass for a towel (they're colour coded so they know where you're staying!). The pool at La Terrasse is great tho - almost like having your own private pool! The couple of times the bar was open, the was no-one staffing it! Again, when we rang reception, they said it was privately run so couldn't do anything about it.
We used the bar/restaurant at La Plage, and one day asked if the TV could be switched on (Euro 2012 football). 20 minutes later, someone finally arrived, and after a great deal of huffing and puffing, basically said to my husband 'youd better be watching this now I've gone to the bother of turning it on'!
Good points (yes, there were some!). Our room was great. It was a studio, but was massive, with huge bed and loads of fresh towels etc. it had a small kitchenette which was fully equipped, and was clean and comfortable.
The hotel is next to the airport, which sounds awful, but it was actually great, as you could watch the planes coming in over the beach. A must-do is to stand on the beach when the jumbo jets are coming in. It feels as though you can touch the wheels! It's also great to watch the planes take off, as they're really close to the fence. Stand clear tho, unless you want to be jet-blasted into the sea! Great to watch the nutters who do tho! :)
The activities desk in La Plage helped us to arrange a quad bike for a day, and were very helpful.
The location of the hotel is great for accessing other parts of the island, it's 2 minutes to the beach, and there's a small supermarket one minute away. There's a 'strip' of restaurants and a casino, and reliable taxis to get you anywhere else.
We did have a great time, and the only reason I haven't scored this higher is the lack of customer service.
La Terrasse, take note!

Our two bedroom was ok and had no complaints, but wouldn't brag to friends about it. The pool is really nice with a great view, but when we were there no one was ever there. Great if you want a nice place to read a book but not as much fun as the other resorts pools. The planes are really cool to watch and my two year old got a real kick out of them. The noise from the planes isn't really that bad and it so quick, and when the doors are shut to your room you can't hear them. The location is the best thing about this resort everything is with in walking distance if you don't have a car. Mullet bay would be the farthest walk near the golf course but its worth it. And we found out the last day we were there you can pay 75.00 for the all inclusive wrist band at Sonesta across the street. Just go to the counter at Sonesta and pay there. Its a good deal if you drink considering eating out is about 20.00 a person per meal. If your looking for a fun trip while your there check out the tour at Dock Martin on the Quality Time Sail Boat really good day of snorkeling lunch and drinks. The construction of the resort is pretty much done just a little in the parking area. And if your going to shop for food ask the front desk how to get the main grocery store in Phillipsburg. The store by the resort is 20% higher.
