This place is a dump. From the minute we tried to get in our room until we tried to get our money back we couldn't believe how horrible this place is. First of all our room did not have a door handle (inside or outside). You put the key in and pushed it open. Then we walked in and the bathroom was filthy dirty with toilet seat up and unclean as was the shower. The room smelled of mold which was all over the rooms walls, lampshades etc. Therefore the room stunk like mold. The "private" patio was a broken slab of cement that looked out to construction equipment. We saw the brochure for this place on their website and it does not look anything at all, not even a little bit like they try to represent it. Trust me this is no resort, I wouldn't even let my dog stay here. Don't try to get your money back if you do make the mistake of booking this place, because even though the desk manager agreed that it was disgusting, they wouldn't give us back our deposit. Never Again!!

My husband and I had decided this was the year to do another big holiday to somewhere warm using our RCI points. In August this place came up and we booked a one bedroom suite for two weeks. We decided to ask friends of ours to join us which they happily accepted the offer. They were interested in RCI and figured this would be an opportunity to find out about how it works and see first hand the type of accommodations RCI provides. What a disappointment when we arrived on Jan 19th after travelling by plane all night. The front desk people gave you looks that went right thru you and not the friendliest to talk to either. By Sunday afternoon I was on the phone to RCI to get us moved out. The room was in dire need of a good cleaning. As there was four of us staying we needed 4 sets of towels. I had been trying all day Saturday to get these. I was told by the cleaning staff that I would have to give them a towel before they would give me one. I said I was already short towels and needed more before I give any. I asked to speak to their boss and they just smiled at me and left. The TV in the bedroom did not work, neither did the phone. There were no tea towels to dry dishes, the oven was unclean, the burner drip pans were rusty, the kitchen sink was all pitted, the bathtub looked like it had a film on it. All our dirty water from the shower ended up in the shower in the unit below us (so hopefully if anyone does stay here they get a unit on the second floor). The air conditioner in the bedroom leaked water all over the floor. There is no maid service offered other than to change the towels and garbage pick up. There was no broom to even sweep up the sand and dirt that came in from walking across the parking lot to the room. On Sunday I went to the front desk to see if I could use the phone to call the toll free number to RCI and the woman on duty told me I would have to go off the resort property to do this. We found the Mailbox in Simpsons Bay where I called and they put in a claim form and told me someone would call back within 2 hrs to the hotel to talk to me. We missed that call or the front office did not pass it on. Monday I went to see the RCI rep on site and told him everything which he wrote down but nothing ever happened. I had asked him to call RCI for me which he said he was unable to do and so I went back to the mailbox and put in another claim form. By Tueday I was really upset and went back to where the RCI rep worked. He was not in but another woman was who very nice placed a call to RCI for me, where after a lot of persistance I finally was able to talk to someone in the complaints department and she did get us moved to the Towers for the last week of our vacation. My advice to anyone is do not book this place as RCI should not even offer it until the new resort is finished, which will not be until Dec 2009. There is no casino on site, its been closed for over a year. There is only one pool on site with a few rusty lounge chairs and you need your own beach towel as there are none on site. Please do not stay here if you want a nice holiday.

“Dirty, Smelly, Noisy - Avoid At All Costs”

Caravanserai Beach Resort

I had to stay at the Caravanserai when my flight was cancelled recently. The room was dirty and smelly. The bathroom was atrocious.

But I could have lived with that for one night. What I could not live with was that their own on-site disco, Bliss, started it's loud music around 11:30 pm and did not stop for hours. It sounded like there was a party in my room, so sleep was out of the question -- even with ear plugs.

Two calls to security got me nothing but "I can't do anything about it."

Calls to Minerva (the manager?) the next day and two weeks later resulted in the same thing. I love island time, but not when it's used as an excuse not to solve problems or issues that customers have.

Avoid the hassles and dirty atmostphere and stay at Sonesta Maho Beach Resort (nearby, much cleaner and with free wireless -- Caravanserai has none) or Turtle Bay.

Also...Caravanserai has NO ELEVATOR for any of you unlucky enough to have to carry luggage up to the second floor.

We needed to stay just one night, and booked online after seeing their website. This place is in fact being rebuilt, and it is mainly a construction site. It does NOT have what the website advertises: no boardwalk, no casino, no beachfront gardens or beach. Didn't see any sign of a minimarket. It has one pool, NOT four, and that is just a dirty plunge pool surrounded by rusting loungers. Our room was not clean: unbrushed floor, with previous occupants' used towel in the bathroom. The shower fitting was loose and rattling in the wall.
For this we were charged $247 (including $37.13 "service charge"!).
This place is a Class One rip-off.

(Advice for anyone renting a car: the roads are narrow and parking a nightmare, so get the smallest car that fits your needs. Driving on St Martin is not fun.)

My wife and I just returned from what was suppose to be a 3 week stay. We booked through RCI in Sept 2007. Arrived on Jan 19th at 8 PM. Took a cab to the Caravanserai. We suspected something was up when the cab driver wished us luck when he dropped us off. When we went to the front desk with our paperwork we where promptly told we have no rooms. We are over booked. We had a lengthy discussion with the two guys working the desk about how could this happen and now what. It was obvious they first, didn't care and second would be of no help. There solution was to point to the street and say, "try one of the hotels over there" pointing to down town. We eventually did find a room at 1 AM. Went back to the Caravanserai on Sunday morning, same story, over booked no room. Told to come back Monday and speak to the manager. Went back Monday, never did see the manager, not in. Dealt with Minerva the Exec. Assistant. Told they did not have us booked for the first week, only the last two. Finally showed a room. We never did stay at this dump. It is dirty, garbage everywhere. They are currently building a new resort literally on top of this one. The court yard is full of junk. We spoke to others staying there, all complained about the construction noise and stuff that didn't work. The staff are rude and simply couldn't give a you know what. This dump is listed as a Silver Crown Resort with RCI. Should be lead. We are not hard to please, but this one is nothing but bad. We stayed at the Towers for one week and came home. The Towers was great but is a bit out of the way. Real quite, not much going on so if you are looking for a party, it won't be at the Towers. The Manager told us she had three other couples show up during the week we where there that had booked at the Caravanserai and refused to stay there. The Towers is associated with RCI. The Manager at the Towers also agrees, they need to get the Caravanserai off the books as it is nothing but problems.
