This place was an absolute nightmare. No joke! We were robbed of over $2500 worth of valuables. When we found out we were robbed, there was NOBODY available at the reception desk. In the parking lot, there were some very suspicious security folks who did not speak English. They were unfriendly, un-sympathetic, and defensive. They told us that robberies occur here ALL THE TIME, which we were NOT warned about. This place is a "glorified" Motel 6, VERY LOW QUALITY. The very next morning as we were checking out, there was another party who had also been robbed, within 12 hours of us! Their car was stolen straight out of the parking lot, and a thief walked in their hotel room as their daughter was sleeping! THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS AREA. MARK MY WORDS: DO NOT STAY AT CAP CARAIBES!!

“A great place to relax”

We stayed here from March 12 thru March 17, 2008. This was our second stay at Cap Caraibes ( first stay was in Nov. of 2006 ). We booked directly with the hotel and got a pretty good deal, considering that we were " in season " ( but more than twice what we had paid for our previous off-season stay ). We love this hotel. Clean rooms, adequate kitchenette, nice firm mattress, and a quiet split-level A/C unit . (Which I liked so much, that I had a similar unit installed in our bedroom at home). The hotel is adjacent to a lovely mile and a half white sand beach, known as Orient Beach. The hotel offers complementary beach towels, padded lounge chairs and sun umbrellas - which you will need, as the tropical sun is very strong. If you need to relax and unwind, this is the place to go. We hung out at the beach most of the day, and had a picnic lunch with cold cuts, bread and cheese. At the end of the day, we would drive to the supermarket, and stock up on food and drink for the next day. I recomend a rental car to get around. We also drove out to a different restaurant every night. The restaurants offer some of the best value meals and gourmet cuisine in the Western Hemisphere - although the deals are not as good as they used to be, because of the dropping dollar. The only problem that we had at the hotel, is that when I went to roll down the hurricane shutters at night, the crank was missing. The woman at the front desk explained that they had all been removed, because they kept getting stuck. ( I suspect that they are just worn out, and need to be replaced.) This is annoying, because when the sun comes up in the morning, your room floods with light. No good chance of sleeping in late. Also, if you watch a lot of TV, your choices are limited to CNN, two French language channels fed in via Guadeloupe ( RFO & Tempo ), HBO, and a Spanish language sports channel - an eclectic mix. Even though this property is on the French part of Saint Martin, they still guarantee their rates in dollars. Go, relax, and enjoy.

We just got back from staying here (in the high season) cost almost 300 a night and this is not a ritz or westin. But remember this is an island. This place is very clean and 10 feet from the beach and food! They offer free lounge chairs at the beach and umbrellas. There is no internet access at hotel but walk down to the beach and there is a restaurant that offers free service with a drink or meal. The food everyone down there is EXCELLENT...but be prepared to pay at least 50 a meal for 2 people. Nothing is cheap and service is just ok if you are an American. Pack very light, no one dresses up. The rooms here also offer little kitchens so taking small snacks is a good idea or coffee. Remember this hotel is on the French side of the island not dutch so it is a least 20 miles from the airport. You need a car. This island is worth visiting for sure! If you are in need of relaxing. I wouldn't stay more than 5 days.

I read some of the other reviews and some people seemed dissappointed with the amenities and price. My husband and I have travelled to the Carribbean many times. Sometimes we have taken cruises and sometimes we stayed in resorts. We decided to stay in St. Maartin because of all the places that we have been, we loved Orient Bay's beach the most. So given that, we wanted to stay in Orient Bay(on the beach). We were very happy with our choice of Cap Caribe. The price was about half of some of the other hotels. The location was fantastic. The room was very nice sized and we had a kitchenette. Every evening we had a nice baguette, some fruit , cheese, and wine out on the balcony. We didn't have a view.(small mix up with Travelocity)
That being said, this is not a resort (or even a hotel for that matter). There are no amenities besides a swimming pool. It is the complete opposite of what one would get at an all-inclusive in Jamaica or Mexico. You can't really just hang out at the hotel. We rented a car and went out every night. The Dutch side is where a lot of the night life is. We ate dinner in a lot of the other areas like Grand Case, Simpson Bay, Anse Marcel. It is a difficult island to drive through because the signs are really bad and the roads are terrible. Forget using a map. There are no street signs.
But we loved it and despite the price, we would go back again.

“Not Great”

Booked this hotel based on the reviews. It was ok but not great for the $2,000 (booked on Expedia) per week price. Very basic! If your flight arrives late and you arrive when it is dark (as we did), it is very difficult to find this place. The signs are small and visible in daylight but not at night. There is no-one at the desk after 7:30 and they tell you to go to the gate where the security guard is located. There was no security guard at the gate and no way to get thorugh the gate so we entered the complex through another road. They then say that if there is no security guard at the gate, call a number that they give you. Of course our cell phones did not work in another country so after walking the streets in the little village, a lovely French woman who owned one of the restaurants(her name is P.Larriviere at Bar des Amis) took pity on us when I was about to have a meltdown from exhaustion after traveling for 48 hours. She called the guard on her cell phone and had him come to give us our key and show us where the hotel was located. She was an angel!
Positives- very close to beach, close to a cute little town, very nice (although expensive) market that had fresh french bread and croissants every morning, bed was very comfortable, room was clean, sun ,sand ,82 degrees, blue water can't be beat. Food is good and many good restaurants are closeby.
Negatives- DON'T arrive after dark and think you will easily find the place or the room or a key. Kitchen is sparsley stocked- not even a can opener or a cereal bowl(but THREE corkscrews). One outlet in bathroom that is already occupied by hairdryer so don't bother bringing curling iron, etc. No washcloths , no screens on the sliding doors so you can't leave them open. Room was very dark and if you opened the curtains on the sliding door, people were sitting at the pool looking into your room. Garbage bags were left outside our room on two nights and the ferral cats and wild dogs got into it. Orient Beach has turned into a Coney Island type of place. It used to be quiet and untouristy the last time we were there 8 years ago but now there are lounge chairs and umberellas as far as the eye can see and the locals walk by every five minutes asking if you want to buy beads or get your hair braided. ( Don't get me wrong, they were very polite and did not pressure you, but never-the-less, they were a constant presence) What a change in 8 short years. Prepare for New York City type traffic jams if you try to venture into Marigot or Phillipsburg. Basically everything is very expensive, very crowded . Won't ever go back.
