My friend and I travelled to St. Maarten early Jan. - The weather wasn't the greatest! But, I guess because it was Jan. - I've stayed at other all-inclusive hotels and I must admit the food and especially the drinks were amazing! I was kind of expecting the hotel to be at bit prettier, and more luxurious, but I guess I can't complain since the hotel is situated in a good area...close to the nighlife/clubs...Bamboo Bernies is excellent on Wed. nights (ladies' night) and Bliss is beautiful and usually happening everynight (look for Marcus) he runs the club, except for Tuesday's when Greenhouse is the place to be, it's a popular place for the locals...as the men love to sweet talk the tourists, if you know what i mean - be careful! As for the food at the hotel, the buffet wasn't the greatest, but we loved the fact that we had other options available to us. (Palm's Grill) Also, our package included one dinner to the Points' Resturant (the hotel's resturant) and 2 other dinners at our choice of resturant in the Maho district. Although, you must book your reservations in advance at the hotel, as we were only able to eat at one other resturant (Hanabi) because their was no availabliltiy. This hotel was truly the best value for your money. Our room didn't have the greatest view (back of the hotel, facing water tanks), but it was exteremely clean, the beds were comfortable and the shower had a lot of water pressure! As for the planes, they didn't bother us at all!! Didn't even hear them from our room and in the day, I can honestly say they were not bothersome at all! Don't listen to the complainers! About the Maho beach, it is very small, but I found it fun swimming and watching the planes arrive right above you! - I wouldn't recommend it for kids though, because the water tends to pull you near the rocks---so be careful. There are so many beautiful beaches!!! Please don't waste your time at only one! Rent a car and explore....some favourites are: Mullet Bay (10 min walk), Cupecoy, Plum Bay, Bay Rouge. And take the 20 min ferry to Anguilla or do a package - it's stunning! Same with St. Barths! - ONE WEEK IS NEVER ENOUGH! The island and the locals are great!!

We traveled to St Martin the first week of November and had a great time at the Sonesta Maho. We stayed in a room on the 6th floor with an ocean view and it was spectacular. Most days we could see St Kitts and Nevis on the horizon. The room was very clean and comfortable and we had no problems with noise from adjoining rooms. The food was tasty and they had a very good variety at both the buffet and the Palms restaurant. Drinks were plentiful and as strong as you want -- all you have to do is ask for more liquor. The beach at the hotel is not good for swimming but there are wonderful beaches within walking distance. Mullet Bay is beautiful and Cupecoy Beach is comprised of private beaches between the rocks. Gorgeous. We also went to Orient Beach and were glad we were staying at the Maho! There was plenty of activity right outside the front door if we felt like getting out. The casino is right across the street. The shopping was great and the prices even better. The island itself is beautiful, very clean and the water is a beautiful aqua blue. Don't worry about the planes landing next door to the hotel. You don't hear them until they are right at the landing strip and it really is an awesome sight.

Hi all! I agree with the review provided by the travellor before me - this is a great place for the price. We have been to many all-inclusives in many islands, and what my husband likes the best about this one is that you can eat every meal at the a-la-carte restaurant if you want to. (He doesn't like buffets, except for breakfast.)The food is not gourmet, but more like what we are used to in Canada. You also don't have to worry about getting sick there and you can take the local bus to visit all over the island in security. We have been there 4 times and love it more each year.(The traffic is getting worse, though.) We also enjoy the night life nearby, because we enjoy going to the casino for a few hours each night. I would say that the biggest drawback is that the beach is almost non-existent now (thanks to a few hurricanes.) but Mullet Bay Beach is only a 10 minute walk. The drinks are great too. I know a lot of people don't favor the all-inclusive formula in St. Martin because there are so many great restaurants on the island, but the prices we get for the Maho from Canada make it really worthwhile. There isn't much entertainment at the hotel itself, so for those who like animation it wouldn't be the place to go. We're just hoping that this package deal continues to be offered fo a long time.

Ok I'll let you in on a little secret. The Maho is simply the best value for your dollar to be found in the Carribean. Is it a 5 star luxury resort?-NO! So don't expect one. If you want to be pampered and primped upon, this is not the resort for you. You need to pony up some more dough and head somewhere else. This resort is a very, very good 4 star resort. It has everthing the average person could want in a travel destination. 1) The food is great for buffet and a la carte dining in the Carribean, - I have not found better anywhere. 2) Water is simply not an issue. 3) The resort grounds are well kept and immaculate. 4) The resort is centrally located with loads of entertainment choices within walking distance. (Casino's, piano bars, nite-clubs, beach bars, cafes, golf, shopping) to name but a few. 5) The island itself is an adventurer's dream. (Friendly helpful locals, 37 beautiful beaches to exlplore, duty free shopping, windsurfing, sailing, -you are supposed to leave the resort and explore the island... it's not only encouraged but expected). Try that on some islands! Go ahead I dare you... 6) Rooms are great. Nicely furnished with 2 doubles or 1 kingsize. Unfortunately, no fridges unless you upgrade. 7) The drinks - Whoa! Simply fantastic. Premium bar including all the staples you would find at home(Bacardi rum, Absolut Vodka, you name it they had it. Your beer choices are Heineken, Bud, Coors Light or Carib, or Presidente. I won't even get into the Pina Colada's or Daquri's! Finally, no resort is complete without it's warts. 1) It can be a noisy spot. Lot's going on so if peace and tranquility are your thing you may want to think elsewhere. 2) Service could be better. I found tipping to make no apparent difference - The service was either great or terrible depending on who you got. 3) The Airport is right next door. For most the highlight of the vacation, for a few others, an annoyance. 4) The beach - there is no beach at the resort, however a short 10 minute walk takes you to Mullet Beach which is one of the nicest beaches I've seen. and I've seen a lot. I hope this helps you and I have no trouble recommending this resort to anyone. I've been twice and each time had the time of my life. In fact, just got back after taking a group of 30. Each and everyone of them came up to me and said what a wonderful spot I had chosen. They couldn't believe it.

My fiance and I spent the week of Dec. 9th through the 16th at this resort and we were very disappointed. I read most of the reviews before I left and everyone seemed to give this resort a good review so I was very excited and expecting alot more than we got.

The hotel and the grounds around the pool are very nice and that is about it.

The food was terrible!! We went all inclusive so your options were limited on where to eat. For breakfast, lunch and dinner you only have two choices a buffet or from the menu at the Palms Grill. The Palms Grill has the same menu EVERYDAY. One night they give you a voucher for the Point Restaurant, you are only allowed to eat here once, so we figured finially we can get a nice dinner, my fiance ordered the steak and lobster dinner then the waiter told us it would be $25 extra for the lobster, even though we did all inclusive. Then at the dinner buffet they were having a BBQ and when we asked for the shrimp we were told it would be $15 extra for that. I have been doing all inclusive vacations for years and never experienced anything like this before. You NEVER had to pay extra for anything you ordered. On top of the food being terrible, the service was just as bad. I found the people from this island not to be friendly at all.

There is no beach at this hotel!! The water is so rough outside the hotel from the planes landing, there is no way you can enjoy a swim in the ocean, besides that you will need water shoes to prevent yourself from getting cut on all the shells when you first walk in the water. If you want to go to the beach you will have to walk about 10 minutes to Mullet Beach. Who wants to be bothered doing this everyday? There are also no water sports, you have to travel about 20 minutes to do any water activities. Basically, at this resort all you are getting is a room and a pool.

Now, to top off all that, it rained 5 out of 7 days. I wanted to DIE!!! One day it rained the entire day you couldnt even leave the room. We definitely did not get our monies worth out of this vacation.

I would definitely not recommend this resort nor would I ever go back to this island again.
