We had a wonderful one week stay at Sonesta Maho beach resort. It’s compact and no need to have a golf cart to get to restaurants or beach. All conveniently located. Both the hotel room and grounds were clean and well maintained. No complaints about the food whatsoever, all delicious and plenty from the breakfast buffet to dinner either buffet or a la carte - the service was great, the drinks from morning mimosas and smoothies to cappuccinos and all drinks from the bars were yummy! The staff was friendly and helpful. The beach is great but it gets deep quick - they offer noodles to float so that was great! We had our fill of airplane landings and take-offs! And what an experience it is of the sand blast from jets taking off!!! And so funny to watch. The availability of towels for the beach and pool was never a problem. We always hung out at the beach. There were days there was sewer smell around the central pool area (i don't know why that was) - if the beach is not your thing, then the 2 pools are great - one with the swim up bar and pool activities and music, the other quieter overlooking the Caribbean. Tennis courts were 5 min walk from the hotel, and the activities desk provided the racquets and balls. There were foosball, table tennis, pool table and air hockey to keep people occupied ( though they need to be replaced, which I am sure management will get to soon because they are very attentive to clients’ needs). The Beach party and the clam race was GREAT and so was the chocolate buffet OMG!!! The nightly entertainment was OK. We enoyed the live bands and the karaoke. Our room was overlooking the main street, mountains, golf course and landing strip and hand a glimpse of the sea though we weren't able to enjoy the balcony because of the A/C noise located on the roof of the stripmall and bar below. Some nights the music was so loud from the street/bar below till 3 A.M. it was hard to sleep (even though we were on the 7th floor). I want to mention that there are hand sanitizers all over the place to cut down on germs. St. Maarten is an island for those who don’t want to do a thing, to lots to do. We went to Phillipsburg, Orient Bay Beach, we enjoyed a wonderful day and Sonesta Great Bay and I have to mention Mullet Bay, superb!!! I even climbed up the rocks and took pictures of the resident iguanas. At Maho, we liked being by the Maho village for the casino and shops. Loved the shopping shuttle to Phillipsburg. I am sure I missed mentioning things. Overall a great stay, we felt safe, comfortable and content and I would recommend this hotel and its sister property. We will return.
Enjoyable stay at Maho Sonesta
