Check in was a nightmare, couldn't get in our room until 4:00 while others in our party were able to get in their rooms immediately. When asked why, I was told rooms are assigned the day before and sometimes the party checking out gets a late check out preventing the room from being cleaned. The place is extremely clean and comfortable. Sometimes we couldn't get towels in our room until 4:00 even though the room was clean, and we never got things replenished like tissues, shower gel, etc. the refrigerator was always stocked to the fullest. The restaurants leave alot to be desired. Other than the buffet the food was not good. The first morning for breakfast there was no food out and it seemed as though we were annoying the cooks while we stood in line and waited for food. The pool area was wonderful with lots of activities. Niki, the water aroberic instructor was the best ever. He is full of fun and energy. We were told they recently went all inclusive so maybe that's why they have food issues. There was plenty of liquor served any time you wanted it and all top of the line brands. All in all it was a great time, just not sure if I would do all inclusive next time because of the food, we actually went to pay restaurants twice even though our food was paid for . Although if you are a drinker it is well worth it!

Room Tip: Tower is closest to the pool area, and is the main lobby, but further from the buffet.

Reception personnel, particularly Cedric and Yeimy,( although other personnel at Reception have all been most accommodating) provided extra efforts that enabled us to make the most out of our overnight stay. Recognzing that residents from other Islands have unique needs is particularly beneficial. Use of hospitality suite a real positive, not tto mention complimentary champagne upon arrival. .

Room Tip: Request a remodeled room and view of the sea

We splurged for the 'deluxe suite' and it was, at best, an average room in desperate need of a facelift. The photos online are NOT what the room actually looks like. Save your money on the upgraded room, for sure. The bathroom had a jacuzzi in the tub, which didn't work. The water in the sink to brush teeth was never actually cold and there was no dresser in the bedroom - just a box that had a broken door on it - sort of like it maybe housed a safe or something at one point.

When we booked, we got a $200 resort credit. $100 of it we successfully used in the spa (which was nice). $25 we used in the gift shop, but the other $75 was not usable. $50 of it was for the buffet restaurant, which was already included in our 'all inclusive' package. And the other $25 was for the photo shop which was never open. It must be out of business or something - I have no idea, but a $25 voucher for a closed store is useless. So was the $50 for the all inclusive buffet restaurant.

Speaking of restaurants... they claim they have 5 to choose from. The buffet restaurant was fine - not great - but fine, and it was open daily for all three meals. However, during our 7 day stay, The Point (the upscale restaurant) was only open one time - and we did, indeed, try it that one time to vary our food options for the week, but essentially, it's the same food as the buffet, just served to you instead of getting it yourself. The beachside grill was pretty good - open for a few hours a day - but took a very long time to get our lunch. The pub was open twice during our 7 day stay - but we didn't actually eat there - although it did have a nice fun sports bar atmosphere. My husband and I laugh about the fifth 'restaurant' - it's really just pizza served at the buffet. But they count that as it's own restaurant. Kind of funny.

Be aware - it says it has a casino in the hotel, which technically is true, but.... it's about 12 slot machines. There is a more legit casino directly across the street, though. And the shows they advertise never happened. And the nightclub was closed the entire week we were there. Pretty much most things seemed closed, honestly.

Oh - and the other main reason I would not stay at this hotel again: it was a prepaid deal we were on directly through the hotel. We happily paid for our charges, but for some reason, there was an extra $1450 on my credit card. It took 3 weeks for them to finally admit that they charged me for some other guest's room - but at first they called it a 'hold on my credit card' and then they told me it would be taken off when I arrived at check in and then they FINALLY (after daily - and I honestly mean daily - calls and emails) got it off my credit card the day before we were to arrive. Terrible customer service - seriously awful. I'm a pretty easy going person, but this was kind of a disaster.

All in all - I won't be going back to St. Maarten and I will certainly send friends to another hotel if they're interested in heading there.

Room Tip: Get the cheapest room you can - we choose the most expensive option of the deluxe suite, and it was...

Too many fun things to do and food was great, stayed on fifth floor looking at the pool and ocean. Very clean room and very comfortable bed! I would reccomend the Sonesta Maho to anyone. There is a casino across the street and many more places to see in walking distance.

The hotel itself was okay. Food was good- service did tend to be slow- but you are in the islands. It is in what probably used to be a cool little town beside (right beside) the airport. The area seems to be a bit sluggish. There are bars and restaurants close by for nightlife. The main part of the hotel is where I would advise to stay- not the beach side (very dated and looks like it was part of a previous hotel that Sonesta purchased). You have access to all ammenities to the sister hotel on the main beach which is smaller but I thought to be so much nicer. There is an actual beach, shopping, and nightlife. The Sonesta at the airport has no beach- you have to walk either I front of the airport or along the rocks to go to the beach. The planes coming in is quite a sight to see (for a day). I would have rather stayed at the other Sonesta in town had I known the down falls of this one. St. Maarten itself.....beautiful

Room Tip: Main part of hotel- highest floor for ocean view- lower floors ocean view is blocked by greenery- st...

All I can say is that this hotel is located in the PRIME location of all entertainment. The airport (which is located right next to the hotel) is pretty cool! Don't stand behind the plane when they take off lol we got thrown up in the water while air france was departing lol The food at sonesto was awesome, the two a la carte were yummy and there was tons of entertainment! Go check out mullet bay, walking distance and absolutely incredible. Across the street there are restaurants and bars, don't be scared to get off the resort! It's totally safe and you need to experience the island!!! The bartenders were very friendly and super fun! I would totally go back to this hotel!

sonesta maho is a dated hotel, with some good and bad points..let me start with the negative pionts..the music at the pool is much too loud..anoying,,and there is not enough staff..you have to be patience and wait for along time to be seated in any of the restaurants..the hotel is clean.butt outdated looks like its straight from the 80...

one of the biggest positve things is the food, the food is great..i ate most of the time at the buffet, and it was very nice..there is a diffrent buffet every day,,and the bbq on the beach was my favorite..thanks to the dutch chef Dennis..for the great food,(check out the pastries..yummm)and explaining me all the dishes..i also wanna thanks the lobby bar barman Mathew, for telling me all the great places on the island(check out orient beach!)

thanks guys,,i will come back for sure
