We stayed at Captain Oliver´s in June 2009, duration 14 days. The hotel is one of the best you can find on the whole island with very friendly staff. It is located in a lagoon and has marina, restaurant, bar, nice pool, whatever we were looking for. The staff is very friendly and no matter what we were looking for, they always had an answer or solution. The only maybe minus is the location, if you are looking for easy to access party sites. Due to the little bit remote location (which we preferred) you definitely need a rental car, but they also have rental cars available to reasonable prices. On the other hand, we would recommend a rental car anyway, because only with a car you are able to explore all the lovely places on this island. It is small, but very interesting and there are many attractions one has to have seen. So the location may only be a minus for people seaching a hotel in the middle of party-town. For all others the location is perfect. They also provide a night guard for the cars, which is essential on the island, unfortunately. Never leave valuables in the car, no matter where! We never had problems, but you will find signs stating this everywhere on the island...
Captain Oliver´s has many guests who stay only a few nights when they come by boat and use the marina, but they want to move forward and attract more guests who stay a week or two. They are well prepared for this kind of guests, who have different needs compared to poeple who stay only a few nights. So for example some advise regarding trip locations, free WiFi access etc., which is all available. That this is a very well regarded resort we could see, when somebody asked us, where we were staying. We always got an "Aahh" and rising eyebrows :-)
We can definitely recommend the resort and we are looking forward to our next stay there.

The staff members are very friendly and helpful. The rooms are clean, spacious and most of the amenities are what they say they are. However, they don't provide may toiletries (only bar soap and shampoo). The location is a bit far from the airport and other activities, but the staff members are more than accomidating in helping you get to your destination/activity. I would suggest renting a car while you are there, as cabs can be a bit expensive. The thing I liked most was the view. At any given time, you could see mountains, the ocean or the marina. The one thing I didn't like, was that there wasn't any gift shops (just the scuba shop) or grocery stores close enough by. You had to have a car to get there or pay for a taxi. To me, it was a little expensive, but I would do it all over again and probably will soon.

Spent 2 days in in February of 2005 for flying to Saba for a week of scuba diving. We chose this place due to the fact that it straddles the border of the Dutch & French sides. We had a nice room on the top floor over looking the Marina. No elevator (luckily I haven't reached the age I need one for 2-3 flights of stairs!). Very nice view of the water, the room was nice and clean but a faulty screen in the bathroom allowed some unwelcome roommates. This was fixed by a call to the front desk, who were also helpful with directions and sightseeing tips. Cross the border and there is a lovely pool, a small menagerie of animals and a restaurant that you can look into the water due to plexiglass cutouts in the floor. All in all it was a nice surpirise

Pleasantly surprised at Capt O's. Out of the way, no beach but that was OK. Sitsa on a busy marina. Had a decent pool. Breakfast buffet was on the lean and unimaginative side.
Dinghy Dock bar was fun each night. Pilsener Heinekens are the best; can't get them in the US.
We were there just before the start of the Heineken Regatta so it started to get busy which was cool to watch.
Would recommend to all except families as there's not much kiddie activity going on.

The hotel staff are very friendly and helpful. The Saturday night lobster buffet was one of the main attractions for me along with the live entertainment. Of course the room itself was amazing; two triple beds and a pull out coach bed. The microwave and fridge was definitely an added bonus. The bartenders at the outside bar make a mean guavaberry drink! I am definitely coming back to Capt. Oliver's the next time I come to St. Martin.
