“Happy New Year 2008”

Captain Oliver's Resort Hotel

Jan 17, 2008

We stayed at Captain Oliver's for only three nights. What a worderful experience. The only challenge we experienced was to find it at night after our flight was delayed and we rented a car at the airport. The map they handed us was not showing too many details. If you go there the first time, you need to get on French side of Oyster bay. Turn LEFT just as you get down the steep hill, don't go in direction to Oyster Bay Resort. Accomodation was better than we hoped for. Our cottage had magnificant ocean view, clean bathroom and kitchen. Our 12y old was not too happy with her (added) bed the first night, but slept well after. We were bothered by mosquitoes inside our cottage the first night. Breakfast was great, fruits, juices, pastry, yogurt and excellent coffee. There is a little beach right in the resort and nice pool on the deck. We opted for one minute boat ride to Dawn Beach every day. You can also reach Orient Beach by the car in short time. We are glad we took a little hike up the hill above resort. What a view! We didn't eat dinner at Captain's, we opted for little restaurant on Dawn Beach - Busby's. Very good food and friendly staff too. This was our first visit to this island and we are already making plans for our next visit. Great experience!

From Bradenton, FL USA.
We have been to Captain Oliver's twice and would love to come back again! The rooms were always clean. The view from the waterfront bungalow, the pool and iguna bar is awesome! Always a wonderful breeze. Captain Olivers has an awesome staff. The front desk, maid, restaurant and bar and activity desk. They took very good care of us. The food at Captain Olivers is the best in St. Martin. The breakfast buffet is also really nice. Our teenage son does not like to eat breakfast. He ate breakfast every morning at the buffet and looked forward to it every a.m. The food at the dinghy dock is very good and less expensive when you want to take a break from your wallet. The beach water taxi is nice and convenient. It will take you to Dawn Beach for snorkeling. We rented a boat with a captain from the marina that took us to St. Bart's for the day. We highly recommend doing that. The day we went over to St. Bart's the water was very rough and the captain handled it very well. The captain of the boat knew what he was doing! The on-site beauty salon was too cool!. We had massages and pedicures and both were the best! We can't wait to go back!!!!!

We went to the Captain's in July. What a great surprise when we got there. The place sits on a beautiful lagoon, which from some rooms you can see the island of St. Barts. The resort is all inclusive with a great resturant on the primises. When i say great , I mean the food is great , the service is great and the rum is great. You have to try the Friday night seafood buffet. I'm telling you don't miss it. They have a full bar in the resturant as well as a Tiki bar near the shore. They have a giant pool which overlooks the opening of the lagoon to St Barts. It's great place to relax when you return from day trips. If you travel to the islands you already know what that is like , St Martin is no different. You either love the life or don't go. If you do go you have to stay at Capt. Olivers. They have spa treatments available and I recommend the massage or facial while you there. The resort has several places to take advantage of night life and varies food outlets for your pleasure. It has a full service marina so you can charter trips for fishing , sight seeing or just plain pleasure. Capt Olivers offers all you could want in an island stay. The resort is in the central part of the island so you can be anywhere in a matter of mintues. If you go and I recommend you do, say hello to the Capt and Maggie for us. We can not wait to go again. Which I'm hoping will be soon.

We arrived late Sunday afternoon, everything was ready, including flowers in the room for our anniversary. The rooms were cool, comfortable and well appointed. They reflect the history of an older resort but are in very good condition for the age. We awoke to a great breakfast buffet every morning.

The pool was fabulous and the dockside amenities were great. We particpated in some too. The water taxi to dawn beach was always ready for us. Oyster pond is a great hub of activity.
We rented a car with help from the front desk and had a great adventure touring the island. Staff recommendations for dive or hiking spots and places to avoid the crowds were awesome.

Each night we had a great meal with the friendliest staff we have ever experienced. We are still exchanging email with some of them 10 months later.

We booked this trip ourselves with four weeks notice, from a recommendation of a friend also. Please feel free to contact us if you need ideas for your holiday there.

Captain Oliver's was exactly as advertised (and as indicated on TripAdvisor).......nothing fancy, just a nice, clean place to stay. The staff was sparse but extremely pleasant and helpful. The restaurant was good but not great, but again the staff made every meal enjoyable. Located just across the line on the French side, it's marina and waterfront bar were a relaxing place to watch the sun go down. We were only there for a long weekend but enjoyed the stay.

Having been to St. Maarten once before during high season, it proved to be an interesting place in the off-season as well. The traffic was terrible (as usual) and the drivers insane by U.S. standards but we managed to get around OK. I will return for sure, but will bring my GPS with me next time to avoid the hours wasted trying to find the locations of interest we sought. Orient Beach was a blast and nearly deserted and the zip-line adventure at Loterie Farm (spelling may be off here) was great too. Shopping in Phillipsburg was fun plus we found a really great Chinese restaturant down one of the many alleys (the hot & sour soup will blow off the top of your head but is delicious).

All in all, a great long weekend adventure.
