“Beautiful Home, Spectacular View”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2013

The photos don't do this house justice. Absolutely the most beautiful and exotic place I've stayed. Valinda (the housekeeper/cook) was great, and Nancy (the owner) was very generous and helpful.

However, our experience in Soufriere, was not good. As the only tourists in town, we were the target of every con man. They literally followed us around, and were not at all happy when we did not give them a "donation". One man even chased our car, not once, but twice. Needless to say, our two small girls were terrified.

Also, if you can't tolerate large bugs, frogs in the house, and hot, humid nights, this place is not for you.

We, 2 couples, stayed here in January 2013 for a week. The villa is located above the town of Soufriere up a steep hilly twisting road. Because of the height, the views of the Pitons and surrounding bay are stunning and very beautiful. The villa is large and airy, well appointed and furnished and very comfortable, lots of seating, a small pool, hammock and day bed on a very large balconied terrace. Because it faces west it tends to become hot in the afternoon from about 4 pm to 6pm.
Watching the sunset with a glass of rum punch was a highlight every day as was breakfast after snorkelling, on the terrace, watching the boats and yachts on the sea and of course the view of the Pitons.
The 2 maids, Vilanda and Francis, are wonderful, very helpful and hard working and will cook for you, we had 2 of Vilanda's tasty meals and a banana cake. They keep the villa spotless and will also shop for you and do some washing. We were well looked after by them.
The bedrooms are downstairs and well furnished with 2 large bathrooms e suite, again plenty of room. The beds have mosquito nets and are very comfortable.
Access to the villa is down steps as is access to the bedrooms, so not suitable for disabled people.
Lots of guide books and info in the villa.
The Asne Chastenet beach, which is the nearest, is down the same steep road you came up to the villa, about 7 minutes in a car and 20mins approx to walk (but at least half an hour to walk back). The beach is black sand, one of the best for snorkelling in the area and has a dive school and restaurant.
However the town is not walkable and neither are any other restaurants so you do need a car if you want to explore. It needs to be a four wheel drive and you need to be a confident driver as the road is rough and bendy with drops.
We had a great holiday here and saw a lot of the island which is very beautiful . We recommend you take some midge/mosquito repellent and bite ointment, especially if you are staying in and want to sit out on the terrace in the evening.

This home was extraordinary and had the nicest people cooking\cleaning! The house is all open making for the perfect temperature to sleep in or the best way to listen to rain without getting drenched! Getting there was quite an adventure but absolutely worth it to get to the most perfect view on the entire island!

To keep this short and sweet -- La Bagatelle is perfect. We have stayed in many places around the world, and I can honestly say we have never enjoyed a week in a private villa more. The house is drop-dead gorgeous, from its location to its furnishings and amenities. The owner, Nancy, is a genuine person with a vibrant personality that shows in every nook and cranny of the house which is furnished in beautiful West Indian antiques and handmade pieces of artistry and craftsmanship. The photos you will see on the rental sites are authentic and accurate. There is no a/c and no television, and we didn't miss either. You should also know that there are few exterior walls which means that you'll have adorable tiny tree frogs visiting you in the evening, but there is ample super-fine mosquito netting around all of the beds so you won't have a single bite or scare at night whilst sleeping. The views from the 2400 sq.ft.main platform of the house are simply stunning -- Les Deux Pitons seem like you can reach out and touch them, and we must have shot 10,000 photographs of them! The house staff of Valinda, Krystal, and Paul are gentle, lovely, and warm -- they arrive every day at 9 am and leave at 3 pm, so you might want to give them a day off now and again so you have a bit more privacy, but they are a pleasure to interact with. The house and grounds are immaculate, equipped with everything you could possibly need. The only negative at all is the Anse Chastenet Road which you must travel to get to the magnificent location of the house, but once you've done it, it's okay. (See Reedprincess's apt description of this infamous road!) Just don't try it the first time at night. Please feel free to PM me if you have specific questions that you'd like me to answer. Thank you, Nancy, for the perfect vacation.

We were so lucky to be able to spend a week at La Bagatelle. It's a wonderful home, and had everything we needed for a relaxing vacation. Thanks to Valinda and the house staff, the house was neat and clean as a pin, the furnishings were beautiful and comfortable, and the kitchen well stocked. The bedrooms are very spacious and beautiful, and the beds are comfortable and surrounded by the finest mosquito netting we've ever seen. The grounds are lush and well maintained, and the tennis court is in great shape.

We took advantage of the shopping service and airport pick-up. Trevor the driver was the best - he was right there at the gate waiting for us, pointed out all sorts of plants and points of interest on the way to the house, and had a wealth of information on places to go. We were a little worried about not renting a car on this trip, but realized very quickly that having a driver just a call away was extremely convenient and a lot easier on us.

For us, the location was perfect, but we really like walking and I have a thing for steep hills. Soufriere was about a 10 minute car ride, or a quick water taxi ride from Anse Chastenet. We could walk down to Anse Chastenet (15 min) for snorkeling, beach lounging and lunch, then hike back up (35-45 min) to watch the sunsets. The view from this house is jaw-dropping, and none of the pictures really capture how pretty it is. And for all the privacy we had, we felt very safe as there are other villas nearby, and all the gates were very secure.

As for nearby activities and restaurants, there is a ton of stuff to do, but we were so content just lounging around, playing tennis, and visiting the fish just down the road that we kind of ran out of time. Nothing seemed more compelling than sitting back with the one you love and taking in that gorgeous piton view.

La Bagatelle is nested high on the tropical hillside above Anse Chastanet in its verdant undergrowth from where one enjoys an uninterrupted & dramatically beautiful panoramic vista of the ocean, Souffriere Bay & those glorious Pitons. This comfortably proportioned two bedroom villa is elegantly designed with a very personal touch in the tastefully chosen furnishings & decorations throughout. The spacious teak covered terrace is the perfect dream place to chill. For days on end. The downstairs Bedrooms both have en suite bathrooms, are beautifully appointed, sharing the 'once in a lifetime' views seen from the terrace above. Bagatelle is well managed & cared for with considerable pride.

We found it very easy not to wander & spent an embarrassingly large part of our vacation at this delightful villa, swimming in the plunge pool, sipping cocktails, reading on the terrace, napping on the day bed, dining under the stars. Silly not to !

Fabulous. My second visit to the island having stayed at the Bananaquit house next door on my last visit. The view from La Bagatelle is priceless. One could spend their whole visit just staring off the balcony. The house is beautifully designed and well laid out to accommodate 1 - 2 couples. If you are looking for a week of no activities except lounging and going to the pool, i would not recommend a need for a car. The roads are treacherous and you can walk down to the resort. But if you want to explore, a car saves quite a bit of money over over priced taxis.

We will visit again and hope to bring friends to La Bagatelle.
