Description: Perched high up between the Piton mountains, The Boucan Restaraunt is open to both residents and non residents. Boucan is The Hotel Chocolat’s own restaurant, where guests can experience Cacao Cuisine. The word “Boucan” refers to the traditional West Indian name for a cocoa drying facility. The restaurant is built on the site of the Rabot Estate’s original Boucan. Boucan is also linked to “boucaneer” or “buccaneer,” the local pirates that would smoke and dry their food to preserve it for long trips at sea. The Boucan offers a strong connection with cacao and chocolate. For over 3,000 years, cacao has been used as a savory ingredient and for 500 as a sweet ingredient. The menu explores both, with the chefs taking their inspiration from the fresh cacao growing all around the estate, together with amazing local fish and seafood, salad leaves, vegetables and plentiful fruit. However the cuisine is far from cocoa heavy. The menu often makes use of cacao as a light, subtle spice or as an infusion. The desserts make full and imaginative use of the estate cacao, with each evening meal rounded off with the day’s new chocolate creation. Boucan’s breathtaking minimalist design includes a soaring roof inspired by the shape of the cacao tree, with its branches reaching to the sky, and shaded by the lush rainforest canopy. Its high platform is a centre stage for the Big Nature views all around.Dining at the Hotel Chocolat's Boucan Restaurant, whether it be breakfast, lunch, dinner or the fabulous sundowner cocktails, is an experience to be shared and cherished. We passionately believe we are certainly offering something very different at Boucan. The dress code is smart/casual and ladies a cocktail dress is never out of place!

“Nice concept, lovely staff, modern restaurant & high quality cacao. Boucan could be brilliant with a bit of tweaking!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 20, 2013

We’ve dined at Boucan restaurant on three occasions.
Most people may agree that the very first time you try something, it’s always new, fresh and special so you look at everything through different lens.

Our first dinner at Boucan was simply delightful as everyone had said it would be. We were just blown away by so many things….the setting, the originality of the menu and the drinks specials, the service and of course the cacao-infused foods.

On our second visit, we tried some different items on the menu and it was a mixed bag really. Our appetisers were divine but it fell short somewhat on the mains. We noticed that the service was not as sharp as before.

On our third visit, everything was just different. Our favourite appetiser, Crab terrine was removed altogether from the menu and the Mains did little to inspire us in originality or taste.
We have been disappointed by the changes but are still willing to give it another try as it is a very original concept but needs abit more attention to the menu, the presentation and the overall quality.

Thanks for your repeat visits. Its always a fine line between removing some dishes (eg Crab Terrine) to make room for new innovations eg The Boucanier’s Bouillon. The fish in our dishes also varies naturally by season, depending on the catch in the local waters. We always think the best is during the Red Snapper season but the Kingfish season is also very popular. All your comments are noted and we thank you for them

“a chocoholics dream”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 19, 2013

I knew Hotel Chocolat from the shops in the UK but a whole Restaurant is another world! Virtually everything on the menu has some chocolate, but not all sweet I was glad to see. Lots of bitter chocolate and chocolate nibs with meat etc. The appetizer chocolate balsamic dip with bread was delicious. The food was very good but you have to save room for dessert. The taster with 11 chocolates is more than enough to share and was fab. The setting is really lovely, on a big outside wooden deck and there was live music the night we were there. The service was a little slow and we did struggle to order wine - the wine lists were on the menu and were taken away before we could order but overall a very enjoyable experience.

Glad you enjoyed – our Chocolate Balsamic dip (complementary) seems to be the favourite of our 3 dip selection. Wine order comment, noted thanks, will discuss with the team.

“Excellent food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 18, 2013

We had lunch included in our our package. We both had the burger which was served in a cocoa nib bun with cocoa in the meat topped with cheese and bacon. It came with a side salad with white chocolate dressing and fried plantain crisps which were really tasty. We then had a fruit salad with melted chocolate to dip it in and a espresso mousse which looked heavenly ! We we given water and fresh grapefruit juice.

Overall the meal was excellent !!

Thanks – our Cocoa Pod hamburger buns are hand-shaped like the pods growing on the estate and baked freshly in the chefs' kitchen.

“Chocolate added value”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 15, 2013

Food good, not excellent though. The service was rushed and made us feel as though we were being pushed through the restaurant at a rapid pace. Not what you want in a beautiful resort for a romantic meal. I had a chicken curry which was very salty and the goats cheese starter was a little ordinary.

Thanks for your review - please bear in mind that we are always happy to adjust seasoning while you are dining, just ask your waiter/waitress - Our aim is for you to be 100% happy. Our service feel is intended to be relaxed but efficient, sounds like we might have worked too hard on the latter, apologies, will review with our team.

“Expected more”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 13, 2013

I'd definitely recommend this as a place for a pre-dinner cocktail or two, but the actual meal didn't live up to expectations. The idea of chocolate in every dish was a great one, but the some of the combinations fell flat. My husband's pork dish was really bland, and my vegetarian hotpot had been obviously microwaved: it was so hot no amount of stirring would cool it and I had to ask for it to be decanted to a cool plate. Deserts, as you'd expect from a place specalising in chocolate, were lovely.
The in-house entertainment - a singer and guitar with a backing track - was absolutely terrible: he murdered a range of popular standards so badly it was embarassing. We heard later he was a favourite of the manager, which went some way to explaining how on earth he'd got the job.

Well thanks for the thumbs up for our desserts and cocktails. Our live music on Thursday is intended to complement your conversations during evening, not drown them out, and so is relaxed R&B from a respected local artist, but do accept music is subjective.
