“Wedding bliss in St Lucia”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2012 for a stay in April 2012

We stayed here as part of a large group for my Brother's Wedding. The villa is absolutely spectacular, feeling like a colonial retreat (whilst actually only being built about ten years ago). The rooms were all at least very good, with some being truly superb (especially the rooms on the 1st floor overlooking the sea). Views were absolutely to die for - nestled between the Pitons, with the most beautiful sunsets (watching my Brother get married at sunset was magical).

The pool and gardens are phenomenal, although there are no steps leading all the way down to the pool - you need to descend a grassy steep lawn, which both my father (who's unfit!) and wife (who was on crutches with a foot injury) struggled with. The pool is simply incredible - I've stayed in large 5* hotels with lesser pool facilities - absolutely faultless.

The staff were truly wonderful. The chef (Basil) very kindly gave us a cooking lesson, Maria (whose role seemed to be head of staff or housekeeping) was wonderfully kind and accommodating - all of the staff were simply brilliant. Basil's cooking was fantastic and, from what my brother told me, the food bill for the week for 23 people (18 adults and 5 children) was quite reasonable considering the standard. Fib, the Villa manager, was incredibly helpful, polite and well informed... nothing to change here at all. I cannot stress how good the food was, considering this is a non-commerical kitchen. Breakfast was wonderful - Creole omlettes with spicy sauce were something else!!

A few grumbles - the air conditioning in our room never worked properly (despite reporting it on day one), the road to the villa off the main road is atrocious, we had problems with the hot water when we first arrived and one of our guests very nearly met a very grisly end in the sea - it's not advisable to go in unless that water is absolutely calm - he very nearly drowned and got washed up on the rocks (and we were not advised by the Villa not to go in), the soap dispenser in our bathroom didn't work, our shower handle was loose and came off, the lock on bathroom door didn't work. Minor foibles, but it's a great deal of money and these things should really be checked and working prior to guests arriving. You also pay an absolute fortune comparatively for any taxi that picks you up - you really do feel held at ransom by the taxi drivers (although that's hardly the Villa's fault).

When broken down per head, the villa isn't actually not that expensive (we stayed in more expensive places on our honeymoon) and I'd certainly recommend it! incidentally, we booked through Simply St Lucia in London, and they were excellent and very helpful too.

Other things to note - no TVs in the rooms (except one master bedroom), although we liked that - and there is a huge television room downstairs. A table tennis table was used by us constantly - a great idea! - rum punch was freely poured and the fridges at the two bar areas were well stocked with coke, water and Piton beer on arrival (although not replenished as I would have liked through the week). The provision (or option) to include Tonic Water and Lemonade would have been great. Be aware that you're out in the rainforest - we were pleasantly surprised by the lack of files etc, although we did get a little bitten after dark if sitting outside. Geckos abound, which our nieces and nephews loved - as they did harvesting coconuts and mangos from the gardens!
