“Best ever hotel and holiday”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 23, 2013 via mobile

Have stayed in literally hundreds of hotels and this has to be far the best ever experience. Great service with and informal feel. Superb food with a chocolate twist. Luxe rooms are a real treat. By far better than the anonymous beach resorts

“Almost there”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 23, 2013

IHotel Boucan is set in a lovely spot on the edge of the forest with views of the Petite Piton but a bit too low for views of the sea. We loved that it had none of the feel of the overdone resorts that populate much of the island. We are happy to have sprung for the luxe lodge, as the room was large and decorated, as is the entire property, in chocolate brown with a perfect view and open to the outdoors. The mosquito netting on the king bed may be necessary under some conditions, but we experienced few if any biting insects. The bathroom was to die for-- semi-outdoor full rain shower, stylish fixtures, and double sinks. The service is impeccable and island-friendly. We had breakfast brought to our room, and despite the uphill climb with a full tray, the waitstaff made us feel that they were happy to do it. Breakfasts were lovely; eggs were done to perfection each morning, although the fresh fruit platter rarely contained ripe fruits, as if they were more concerned with the look of the plate than the taste. A lunch at the pool of chicken roti could not have been more delicious or more nicely presented. The dinners were delicious and beautifully served, but limited in choices, which is a problem if you are taking all your meals at the hotel and staying for more than two nights. In addition, the dining room ambiance was anything but romantic-- for a truly romantic dinner, walk across the street to Ladera and enjoy its views of the Pitons and the sea. The problem with the ambiance could easily be remedied with tablecloths and a lot less lighting. We did not do any of the guided tours, instead enjoying self-guided hikes into the forest and to the neighboring farms. We did take advantage of the spa and highly recommend the unique chocolate scrub.

“Beautiful Place but stay a few nights”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 20, 2013 via mobile

This place is gorgeous. The hotel lodge room was amazing and very romantic. The hotel side of the business was top rate. You could not ask for more. The chocolate walk with the tour guide (sorry forgot his name) was excellent and he was a great asset to the team. Food in restaurant was really good, the cost was high but worth the money. The breakfast was awesome and included in room rate. You seriously will struggle to find a better fresh breakfast and for chocolate fanatics (which I am not) it is a real treat. However the only criticism was some of the waiting staff. Some appeared and actually were miserable, we had valentines day and the meal was awesome. However we waited for over an hour with no offers of any beverages. Overall this place is very worth the visit, very relaxing and you won't beat the location / setting. I became a little bored on day three as it is very remote and not walking distance of town. The views of the pitons were the best and I loved the place.

“Fabulous!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 19, 2013

We celebrated a friend's 50th birthday here along with our two children aged 6 and 7 who delighted in the fact that all of the food in some way is 'laced with chocolate'! We watched in amazement as our youngest smacked her lips in appreciation over the pumpkin soup and the incredible salad with white chocolate dressing. A child who prior to this evening would run screaming from the table at the mere sight of vegetables (okay.. a slight exaggeration perhaps!).

The service was impeccable and could not be faulted. Presentation superb and of the highest standard. The food was delicious.. not the very best that I have sampled but it could not be faulted. My husband found the 'chocolate' in every dish a bit tedious and was very slightly underwhelmed but he isn't a chocolate lover so I don't count his verdict. Anyway.. it was not always evident that chocolate played a role in every course.. cacao beans are actually quite bitter on their own.

Completely recommend the restaurant especially for Valentines, a wedding anniversary or any other romantic or memorable ocassion or simply 'just because'. Fabulous in every way!

“Enjoyable experience; Customer Service Needs Help”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2013

We stayed here for 1 night to cap off a 10 night stay in St. Lucia.

We had an amazing burger and roti for our first lunch, and our other meals were very good but we did not appreciate them as much, as the novelty of chocolate in every dish began to wear off.

The restaurant and pool below it have a great feel, with stunning views of the Pitons. Same with the Luxe Lodge we were in.

The lodge had a wonderful patio with lounge chairs, and a 3-stream shower. The lodge was not completely enclosed, so there was a possibility that nature could come inside. This did not happen to us, but we were fully aware of nature through the night, as the nocturnal birds, crickets, and tree frogs came to life (ear plugs may be a requirement for some). Really a unique experience!

The property provides OK customer service, but there is definitely room for improvement, as one would expect better given the prices charged. The hotel employees helped us with a request for iPod, converter, and extra body wash, but in general did not offer much extra and we at times felt like we were bothering them. Some of the restaurant employees did not seem very happy to be there, and were "going through the motions". The hotel states that their employees are paid a salary, and that tips are not necessary except in the case of exceptional service, which there was little evidence of during our short stay. Maybe this policy needs to be reviewed, to perhaps provide an incentive for employees to show that they care about their guests.

We had a very enjoyable experience, but it could have been even better!

Thanks for your overall positive review and comments noted. Would like to add that Boucan has a theme of savoury cocoa cuisine, not chocolate (except in the desserts!).
