“Great”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2012

It rained our entire 3 days in Soufriere but this was still our favourite hotel on St Lucia. We were given an amazing room, very large with a similarly large terrace overlooking the sea and Pitons. Quite breathtaking. On the day we arrived small flowers had been placed on the bed and all the surfaces in the room which was very sweet. It was all a lot more than we had expected.

We ate dinner and breakfast in the hotel restaurant and both were excellent. The restaurant also had a lovely position. The staff were all friendly and went out of their way to assist us (including with a flat tyre). There are no other restaurants within walking distance but as the hotel restaurant was so good this didn't bother us. It is also a little bit out of Soufriere.

The dogs didn't bother us and were quiet at night, however we had a very noisy cockerel between about 3 and 4am

Room Tip: The large suite down by the owner's house was great and handy for the inifinity pool (although o...

“La Haut”

Stunning location, charming staff quiet and tranquil lots to explore in the grounds amazing views from the pools. I was stranded in St Lucia and cant imagine a better place to be stranded in! The guests were varied and all enjoyed the beauty to be found at this small plantation.

“~ A Beautiful Gem In Soufriere ~”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2012

I really don't know quite where to begin on how much I enjoyed this property .
The grounds are magnificient , the views - awe-inspiring , the staff - most kind .
Seeing St. Lucia on your own can be quite challenging , so I was lucky to have the assitance of all in the office, and a most kind driver , Paul for transportation .
You must book a day tour with him ! I got to experience " the real St. Lucia " . Additionally, he introduced me to my water taxi guide, Daniel . It makes all the difference in the world when you know you are in the hands of someone trustworthy and courteous .Both of these gentlemen helped me immensely . My days on the water were not to be missed . Add this to your excursion list !
My room was immaculate , a little home away from home . Food was prepared to order and delicious . Thanks ALL at La Haut ; I will be returning without a doubt :)))))

Room Tip: Ask to see the property / see for yourself !

“Needs a cosmetic makeover.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 9, 2012

Whilst working in St Lucia stayed 3 nights at La Haut in late July over a weekend and it should be noted that is was low season.
Positives -
Views to die for, fantastic scenery. Two nice swimming pools including the owners infinity pool with the Pitons as a backdrop.
Service - Very polite and efficient, the food was fantastic.
Negatives
Was resonably priced as we stayed in one of the more basic room and found the decor and fittings to be very basic and shoddy.
Had an ants nest in my bathroom which for some reason attracted to the bathroom mat. That got chucked out.
Now this might just be me but found the room to have a strong chlorine type smell. A work collegue suggested that this may have been the Lilly plants that were resident there!! Who knows.
I have to agree with others that the communal areas, like the decking and around the pool were in a desperate need of decoration.
The swimming pools needed additional cleaning as at times were very uninviting due to the pollen seeds and other follage in them.
I would like to add on a positive note, if I was back in St Lucia I would definately return for a few days as hopefully the faults can easily be rectified. What you cannot replace is the absolutely fantastic views and the service that the staff endevour to provide.

“Wonderful stay, recommend”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 5, 2012

Often hotel photos only show A great view that it is just possible to see and a room that is nothing like the one you end up in. Well don't worry, the view of the Pitons is truly amazing from wherever you are on this plantation and the photos are exact. We stayed in the end room on the first floor of the plantation house. Fresh fruit was supplied daily, water in the fridge on arrival and hibiscus flowers adorned the room and bed. The view was amazing, sitting on the balcony was so relaxing. Walk the owners property and see all the animals. Take a torch at night and investigate the sound of the night creatures and insects. Watch out for large land crabs! This is not Rodney bay or a commercialised area, that's why we loved it.Staff very friendly, restaurant superb with only fresh local produce served. breakfast was cooked to order, with local fruit juices, tamarind and sugar apple were in season in August, make sure and have the creole bread.

Room Tip: I think there were other rooms elsewhere on the property, don't know if they had air conditionin...

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
La Haut or Le Haut literally means "the height" in Patois, a French dialect that is commonly spoken by St. Lucians. La Haut sits on a hill overlooking Soufriere, one of the oldest towns in St Lucia.Part of a 52-acre former coconut and cocoa estate, the main Guest House possesses a unique history. Nearly 100 years old, the main guesthouse was originally a cocoa house used for fermenting and drying cocoa beans hand-picked on the estate. In 1995, the building was converted and refurbished into a 6-room guesthouse. The nearby cottage was a former copra house where coconuts were once processed.Although the rich aroma of cocoa beans no longer wafts through the air, at La Haut you can enjoy the perfume-scented, tropical fauna or the salty breeze that blows off the Caribbean Sea. ... more   less
