“Pre dinner drinks, with an unmissable view!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 26, 2013

A pre dinner drink here is a MUST! We watched the sunset one evening before going across the road for dinner. It was truly a spectacular view. A must see! They had a band on that evening - they were very good! An observation while having a drink in the bar - if you plan on having dinner, men you will need to wear pants. Shorts are not allowed, I saw one guy change for his dinner date.

My husband and I needed a break from work and decided to visit in May 2012, and the Travel Agent recommended Ladera in Soufriere. I am glad we chose this side of the island since we did take a day trip to the other side Rodney Bay Having only 3 walls for a bedroom was very unique! Sleeping with the view of the Piton, the sound of birds and night creatures was so relaxing and amazing! Using the pluge pool was great after long days of hiking or sightseeing, the view is amazing and the experience of overlooking the forest out to the ocean is just wonderful. The hotel offers a shuttle (takes about 5 minutes) to use the beach at Jealousie. we paid extra to use hotel's own chaise lounge rather than where outside hotel guests are normally placed and it was worth it. We also tried to Anse Chasnet's beach but did not like it at all, the location where they place outside guests is to the corner next to the restaurant and the experience was pretty annoying rather than relazxing. The restaurant at the hotel was good but we were there for 6 nights and it didn't seem like the menu changes often so we ventured out 4 of the 6 nights to try other great restaurants around the area. The spa was ok, very small but clean and the ladies working there were friendly. The Guest Services team was extremly helpful whenever we needed to schedule any kind of pick up, activity, or dinner reservations. The hotel is walking distance from Rabot Estate/Hotel Chocolat restaurant, you should defintely try it if you are into chocolate! Sulphur Springs are also very close and worth the trip. The gift shop offers a variety of snacks and toileteries so if you forget something you can get it there but it's overpriced as these places tend to be at upscale resorts. Taxis were normally easy to request but at night time we were better off asking the hotel to pre-arrange for us. Coffee was great when we ordered breakfast in the room, make sure to cover any food left over otherwise the birds will be all over it :) The suite always had fresh flowers and the mini bar stocked with sodas and water daily, there was a nice tea selection and anything we needed, we just asked the hotel staff. Wish the resort offered more dining options because the views are spectacular!! Would stay here again, though probably just for 3 nights to reduce the amount of coming and going to other places that offer better dining.

Room Tip: depending on how busy the hotel is ask for rooms further away from the main lobby so you can get mor...

Everyone should get a chance to see this view once in their life. It is truly breathtaking and pictures do not do it justice! I wanted to make sure I wrote a review, since I relied so heavily on trip advisor when planning this trip. My husband and I stayed at Ladera for 6 days and it was just the right amount of time.

We were room Q. Upon arrival we got a tour and quickly learned that the service at this resort is unmatched. Every person you come across is so friendly and helpful. We arrived to a bottle of champagne in our room and a fridge filled with beer, soft drinks and water (all complimentary).

For the most part we knew what we were getting into, missing the third wall and all. Yes there are bugs, lizards, bats, birds, etc... and yes they venture into your room. We totally expected this and although this was not the most appealing, we thought it was a price we were willing to pay for the experience and that view. I liked to refer to the bed with the net as the "safety zone"... no bugs ever got through there. What we didn't expect was the frogs. They are the size of a quarter and they make one of the loudest sounds. Once dark comes, they come out. The first night my husband and I had a minor meltdown wondering what we got ourselves into, because we thought sleep would never come due to these frogs (even with the ear plugs in)... but you get used to it and by the third night we no longer needed earplugs... and as for the lizards, I grew to like them.

I got sick on our 3rd day there, nothing too serious. Not only did the women in reception offer to send someone to get the medicine I needed. When they realized no one carried it, they called a doctor who we were able to speak to, who advised us... In the end I was fine, but the fact that they went over and above to help stood out.

We ate at the restaurant Dasheen everyday for at least one of our meals and it was wonderful each time. Neilbert was often our server and he was awesome! (separate review)

The grounds are beautiful and lush. It rained for our first two days so we stayed at the resort and walked around the grounds during the rain breaks. That is when we met Justin the grounds keeper. He brought us on an impromptu tour... telling us about all the different plants on the grounds and good places to take pictures, he even took some for us! He was so knowledgeable and friendly. Truly one of those hidden gems to this resort, we were lucky to cross paths with him.

My advice is to know what you are getting into. This is a beautiful location and I honestly feel thankful that I have gotten a chance to see it. We wanted to be shut off from the world for a little while and just relax and get sun... We got what we wanted here! The staff was wonderful and they are what makes this a 4 star resort. This is an experience for sure, but I think that is what you are looking for when you choose a place that is wide open to the outdoors.

We did the peak to beach package and are so glad we started our honeymoon here! We needed someplace where we could rest and relax. This is the place to do it! The resort is very remote and we had no worries about hanging out in our room and using the private pool all day. The food is delicious and they had no problem more than accommodating my gluten intolerance. By the 3rd day we were ready to see what else St Lucia offered, but it was the perfect beginning to our relaxing getaway.

My husband and I just got married this past week in Soufriere, St. Lucia and wanted to stay somewhere extra special during our wedding week. We stayed in Room U, which had a beautiful view of the Petit Piton (all rooms have 3 walls- the fourth is open air and absolutely amazing). The room comes with a plunge pool and waterfall that is the perfect touch for an evening dip before bed and the gentle waterfall running makes you feel like you are lost in the rainforest. After one night in Room U, we woke to a slight bee problem that was taken care of in the matter of minutes. They sweetly offered us another room and transferred all our luggage over. We then stayed in Room L, which was even more awesome. Two floors, two plunge pools with a connecting bridge and even larger waterfall. Upstairs had a sitting area and bed overlooking both Pitons!! Our stay here is something we will never forget. The location is amazing, the staff could not have been nicer, and the food was fabulous (mostly had breakfast ordered to the room- but they definitely have the best pancakes I have ever had anywhere- banana pancakes with roasted bananas and toasted coconut!!). If you are looking for an romantic spot this is it! We visited Sugar beach, Hotel Chocolat, Anse Chastanet and Jade Mountain- Ladera was our favorite!!!!

I would never, ever stay here again. For $600 a night, I expect at the very least a hot water shower (with enough water pressure to rinse your hair) and to not hear your neighbors like a cheap Motel 6. Yes, they offered to move us to another room, but when you're vacationing for just a week, even one night without sleep (we were woken at 3 am by arriving guests) and 24 hours without a hot shower (they kept trying to fix it, then eventually offered to move us to a "larger room") is TOO MUCH. This is what I would call a "tourist trap"--they lure you in with the beautiful photos of fabulous rooms--but not all rooms are created equal. Our "plunge pool" was a Tidy-bowl blue painted affair, with a fake waterfall (and the accompanying noise of the motor that generated it) waist deep, and ice cold. To access the "view", we had to stand at the far corner of the room--The walls are rock, kind of cave like, but not in a good way--The whole thing made me feel like a refugee from a live action Fred Flintstone flick. I'm sure it was "hip" back in the 1970's, but it just comes off as tacky today. Although we appreciated not needing to use air conditioning (I hate sleeping in air conditioning), I didn't appreciate the dozens of insects that spent the night attached to our bed netting, and that I accidently crunched under foot when walking to the bathroom--where there were yet more insects in the sink, on the mirror, etc. I'm sure if you're in the throes of honeymooning love, you might not notice this, and maybe other rooms are "tastefully done" and "special and serene", but if what you're looking for is something hip, cool, and classy, this is not the place.
The staff is lovely, and professional--too bad the whole place needs a major overhaul. Oh, and BTW, the restaurant had exactly one vegetarian selection--and it was called "vegetable pudding"...The best thing about Ladera? It's right across the street from a fabulous restaurant called Boucan...

Room Tip: Be sure to ask to not have anyone on either side of you--otherwise, be prepared to know EVERYTHING a...

My husband and I stayed here for the second part of our honeymoon. We have both experienced some amazing hotels around the world but this really was a totally different experience, very beautiful and so relaxing. Everything is done very tastefully and to a very high standard but also en-capturing the natural surroundings and beauty. The view from our room was just stunning and having an open feel it was so raw and organic but luxurious at the same time. We stayed in one of the X suites but am sure all the other rooms are to a very similar standard. I stood looking out from our bedroom on many occasions viewing the sunset across the Pitons and couldn't quite believe how stunning it was. It really is paradise and a must see place to visit. We met other couples who were on honeymoon staying at Sandals which is typically meant to be a safe option to stay but they were disappointed and we were so pleased we had tried this unusual yet incredible hotel. We ate at the hotel quite a bit and the food was delicious! The staff couldn't be more helpful and we had some great trips organised by them whilst there. We definitely hope to return soon!

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Ladera opened in November 1992 and has since been distinguished by a wide range of international publications, awards and accolades from Conde Nast Traveler, Travel + Leisure, Forbes Life Caribbean Travel and Life, Brides Magazine and countless others. Ladera was once part of Rabot Estate, one of Soufriere’s oldest plantations, which still borders the resort. In the late 1960’s a parcel of land was sold and developed into a small cluster of condominiums and christened Dasheene, named after the thousands of large, glossy-leafed dasheen plants (also known as elephant ears) harvested on the site. In 1982 it was transformed into a unique resort and changed hands a number of times before emerging as Ladera under the current private ownership. The mission has always been to offer an unparalleled guest experience that is quintessentially Saint Lucian, one that embraces the magnificent views and offers harmony with the surrounding natural beauty and rich bounty of the island. Today, that commitment to sumptuous authenticity is evident in everything from the innovative renderings of fresh local dishes at Dasheene restaurant, to the use of Caribbean timbers, stone and tile work used in the guestrooms and public areas. Yet it shines through most effectively with warm and welcoming Saint Lucian staff. ... more   less
