“Once in a lifetime experience!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 21, 2013

Last summer, my wife and I stayed 7 nights in Ladera. We absolutely enjoyed Ladera. We had booked a Hilton Dream Suite, but were upgraded to a 2 Bedroom Suite. We stayed in room B. Great view on the Pitons and never knew how much fun it could be to have a swimming pool in your room. Breakfast and Dinner at Ladera is great. We loved the good service in the bar and especially the live music at night! But don't forget to go for dinner across the road in Boucan restaurant. The fact that the suite is open was for us only positive, because we could enjoy the view of the Pitons and the ocean from early in the morning, when waking up until we went to bed. A once in a lifetime experience.
Of course, at night the lights attracts some bugs, but that is the only very small negative thing.
Go to the sulphur springs, was a lot of fun.

Room Tip: We have stayed in Room B, close to the restaurant and the entrance. No noise from the restaurant how...

Just came back from a fantastic vacation to the Ladera Resort. Prior to booking, I spent some time reading the different reviews of the resort on Trip Advisor and some other sites. The reviews seemed to be 5 stars or 1... really no in-between. After spending a few nights there I understood where both sides were coming from... I realized that having the right expectation before you book is key - as the Ladera isn't for everyone.

I found the rooms at Ladera to be spectacular. I have never been in a room with such an incredible view which is open to the elements as well. Add the plunge pool and it was by far my favorite hotel room I have ever had the pleasure of staying in (second best was the Lodge at Chaa Creek, Belize). The service was fantastic and the food prices good especially when you compare it to other resort dining (3 course dinners were about $58 USD). Ladera is relaxing, quiet, beautiful and peaceful. We hated to leave.

With that being said, I can see these rooms aren't for everyone...

* If you don't want nature (birds, lizards, owls, bats, hermit crabs, etc.) visiting your room 24/7, this place is NOT for you.

* If you need a flat screen TV in your room, this place is NOT for you.

* If you desire spring break nightlife, this place is NOT for you.

* If you expect high end modern furniture, this place is NOT for you.

* If you have kids and they need a lot of activities, this place is NOT for you.

* If you have to be withing walking distance to shopping, bars, etc. This place is NOT for you.

* If you want to be near the beach, this place is NOT for you.

Thanks again to the employees at Ladera who made our stay very memorable. Lastly, delivering our belongings that we forgot in the room to the airport (about 45 minutes away) was a class act and very much appreciated.

Room Tip: We had room "E" which was a 3 bedroom, 2 bath room with a huge pool and fantastic view.

Ladera in St Lucia was a wonderful experience. We had a great time and the room was beautiful. The view out our room overlooking the pitons was breath taking. We had a shuttle from our hotel to the beach during the day, which was very nice. The private pool was a nice added touch.

my trip to the island of St. Lucia was the most perfect island experience.. The Ladera Resort was beautiful , the accomodations perfect, food excellent and the staff went way and beyond. I loved the majestic beauty, the relax vibe and you can plan your days by partaking in activites or just relaxing. I highly recommend the hike up Gross Piton. It was strenuous but well worth it.. I will definitely be returning.

Ok, it was a little hard to talk my wife into a hotel in the jungle with only three walls! I crossed my fingers, booked it and prayed! Check in was perfect, a nice drink and hot towel before they showed you to your room. I felt like a kid when they opened the door and all I saw was the VIEW! It's what everyone comes to St. Lucia to see, and you get to have it morning, noon and night. It was amazing to wake up in a four posted bed with the Pitons right outside your patio. The room was very large with it's own splash pool, lounges and open air bathroom.
The whole resort is very lush and relaxing. Dinner at the Tree House was great but pricey. Great service and food to match. Try taking a short walk across the street to Hotel Chocolat. Great food, service and prices.
You do have to take a bus to the beach but it was no problem and included with the resort. All were very friendly and the locals are helpful for snorkeling tours or as we did a boat ride to another beach to explore.
Ziplining is just down the road and was a blast. You can also get a cab to take you a mile away to the only Drive thru Volcano. How often can you do that?!
Great destination for a couples escape. BTW, the wife loved the room and thought it was amazing.

Room Tip: Every room is a great room! Can't go wrong.

Well, it was our 3rd trip to Ladera. As usual the view never changes and it is awesome. If you want Maximum Chill, this is the place. Highly suggest getting villa H, 2 bedroom with the pool running through the living room. There's not a lot to do but if you want to hang out in the room there is not a place better. Chill, Chill and more Chill. Get it?
We came with friends this time and they loved the digs but the shower in X7 was weak. Had they said something to the manager they would of got another room. Stayed in X1 this time and it was great. Food was not as good as 2004 & 2008. The head chef, Orlando opened his own place in Souffrie. Worth the visit, Tuna is awesome! Our meal the first night at the Ladera's restaurant was not very good. Olivier, the manager took it off the bill. Nice gesture. He was very nice in explaining the downfall of the resort. No umbrellas at the pool? Should of been taken care of long ago for the money they make. The staff is great and very friendly, Get a massage from Gabina, totally awesome.
If you want to get a great meal take a taxi to Jade Mountain. This is the best place to stay but very expensive, 2K-3K a night. Ask to see a room, it will blow you away!
Also visit Gee's restaurant and get the seafood lasagna, Yummy!

My wife and I arrived exhausted from work and family obligations, and left totally renewed six days later. Ladera is an ethereal resort, built on a ridge with a stunning view of the Pitons, where you feel as if you're in a tree house in the sky. The three-walled rooms let the sea breezes blow through all day and night, and the chirping of tree frogs, birds, and crickets are a constant, lulling presence. Everyone at Ladera greets you with a warm smile and great service; we've never had friendlier and more attentive service anywhere. The restaurant is good, not great, but you can also take short taxi rides down into Soufriere to eat at an array of fine restaurants. You need to take a shuttle to the beach at Sugar Beach resort, where the staff treats Laderites and other outsiders with some lip-curled condescension. The only negative note of our trip. If you want relaxation, incomparable views, and a sense of being enveloped in a tropical rain forest, Ladera can't be beat.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Ladera opened in November 1992 and has since been distinguished by a wide range of international publications, awards and accolades from Conde Nast Traveler, Travel + Leisure, Forbes Life Caribbean Travel and Life, Brides Magazine and countless others. Ladera was once part of Rabot Estate, one of Soufriere’s oldest plantations, which still borders the resort. In the late 1960’s a parcel of land was sold and developed into a small cluster of condominiums and christened Dasheene, named after the thousands of large, glossy-leafed dasheen plants (also known as elephant ears) harvested on the site. In 1982 it was transformed into a unique resort and changed hands a number of times before emerging as Ladera under the current private ownership. The mission has always been to offer an unparalleled guest experience that is quintessentially Saint Lucian, one that embraces the magnificent views and offers harmony with the surrounding natural beauty and rich bounty of the island. Today, that commitment to sumptuous authenticity is evident in everything from the innovative renderings of fresh local dishes at Dasheene restaurant, to the use of Caribbean timbers, stone and tile work used in the guestrooms and public areas. Yet it shines through most effectively with warm and welcoming Saint Lucian staff. ... more   less
