My wife and I spent 5 days at Ladera for our wedding anniversary. We prefer to stay in small luxury boutique hotels rather than large resorts and Ladera was recommended to us by a travel agent.

Upon landing in Vieux Fort, we immediately experienced a scam after clearing customs. A person asked us where we were staying and when we told him, he grabbed our bags, took them about 50 feet to the Ladera desk and then asked for a tip. It's a long taxi ride to Ladera and not cheap! At the hotel, we found the view of the Pitons to be spectacular, rivaling anywhere we have been in the world. The open room concept is interesting and we enjoyed it but you do have bugs to contend with and, at night, if there is no breeze, it can get uncomfortable in the bed. Luckily, a breeze is usually blowing and keeps the rooms pleasant.

Although highly acclaimed, we found the food in the restaurant to be quite pedestrian. Ladera is somewhat isloated so a taxi ride is required to other restaurants and options are very limited.

We visited the Jalousie and Anse Chastanet beaches and found Jalousie to be much better. A beautiful white sand beach between the Pitons and not too crowded. We were told that Anse Chastanet was better for snorkeling but we found it not to be a great place for sun bathing. It was crowded and the dark sand gets very hot! Also, Anse Chastanet does not allow visitors from Ladera to use their beach chairs, but Jalousie does.

The staff at Ladera was very pleasant and helpful. Virtually anything we requested was handled correctly and pleasantly. Jeeves is nothing more than a 2 way radio and we never even tried to use it.

We stayed in a Gros Piton room and if I return to Ladera, I would probably pay the extra for a Dream Suite.

Overall, we enjoyed the outdoor experience of Ladera and find it one of the better places in the Carribbean. Having said that, I'm not a big Carribbean fan and have found much better botique hotels in Hawaii and Bermuda.

Wow, is all I can say of this amazing hideaway. It was our honeymoon and we wanted something out of this world and feel like we got it. first of all, the view is astonishing. We did not want to leave our room we just stared and stared at the most picturesque view I had seen in my life. absolutely georgeous.!!! Everywhere you look its stunning. you can't believe your eyes. The Pitons make St Lucia. We loved Ladera and found it to be everything we expected. the people, the food, the ambience, the setting, everything. We loved every little thing down to the clam shell sinks and the romantic beds. There was a full moon and if you are lucky enough to stay there during a full moon then you won't want to fall asleep at night gazing out at the pitons and the ocean. The shuttle to the Jalousie beach was great, and that beach is picture perfect too. We went to the Soufriere volcanoe, the hot springs, the diamond mineral falls, and we even went into town and walked around. Its a locals town , not touristy at all. We also had dinner one night in town at a great seafood restaurant. Dashenne was fabulous at Ladera and reasonable we thought. We also ate at Jalousie one night and had a delightful dinner. We found a great agent at Unforgettable Honeymoons to help us and give us tons of info about what to see and do as well while we were there. We would have not known about Ladera if we didn't see it on a honeymoon DVD that our agent sent us to help narrow it down. It was very helpful to see detailed footage of all the rooms, the interirors, the views , ect. before we decided. We also looked on the dvd at sandals and anse chastanet, but after seeing all 3 it was clear that ladera was the place to go in St Lucia. no other hotel has this location on the ridge right between the Pitons which is amazing location. Anse Chastanet is a bit further away and the view is not nearly as spectacular. also, I would recommend you DON"T do the meal plan !!! Can't wait to go back.

My husband and I spent our week long honeymoon at Ladera in 2006! We couldn't have been happier with the location, the resort, the staff, the food....I could keep going! I would recommend this to anyone for either a very romantic getaway or a honeymoon. I've been ready to go back since the day I had to leave!! The rooms are unbelievable with only three walls. You're totally secluded and have breathtaking views all day long. The food in the restaurant each night is completely gourmet and absolutely delicious! It's so personal and cozy, you know the entire staff before the week is even half over. We did several excursions, like the night trip to the local fishing village for their fish fry & street party. It was a blast. We did a half day trip with another couple we met while there and went out on a private sailboat, with a bottle of champagne and all! We cruised around, then found a cove to jump in a swim for a while. My husband and I got massages in their spa that were fabulous! I was concerned about not being directly on the beach, because you're up in the rain forests, on top of a ridge at Ladera. However, it provides that view that no one else can match, and you have your private plunge pool in your room plus the resort's pool that also has that beautiful view! We were taken care of the entire time, so comfortable and happy! The three walled room is something I don't think we could find anywhere else, at least not that I've heard of! I'd go back in a second and happily recommend it to anyone I know!!! Nothing can compare to St. Lucia or Ladera Resort!!

We'd read the hype and wanted to check it out.
We spend 2 weeks every year in the caribbean, and have done for the last 10 years, last Christmas (2006) we did the same at Ladera.
The location is splendid, the views can't be faulted and the concept is great. BUT, camping for adults it is! Many creepy crawlies and way too much wild life in the bedroom for this town girl! The outdoor open air rooms a good in theroy, but make cleanliness difficult.
Many little things too such as my husband had a nose bleed 1 night and it was only 2 days later that I noticed the sheets hadn't been changed (as if he'd see that!) For the price, I would almost want clean sheets twice a day! Service was not good either.
But the restuarant was excellant and we really enjoyed all the food, infact we never ate anywhere else for the whole time!
In a nutshell, I've been to better places and it's not worth the money.
