My wife and I were married at Jalousie Plantation in Sept, 06.
Picking Jalousie was difficult - we had never been there. We were impressed by the ratings and reviews. We were going to have a local wedding, but it was just too stressful. We discussed going to "some tropical island" and picked St. Lucia. Some islands had too much of a chance of hurricane. Some islands had too many residency requirements or local fees for getting married. St Lucia was reasonable, and hasn't been hit by a hurricane in decades.
We were at Jalousie for a week and did something different every day. That included a sunset cruise, snorkeling, 2 trips to a waterfall, the Sulphur Seduction massage in the volcano water, the couples massage in the spa, a visit to the drive-in volcano, a visit to the botanical gardens and diamond falls, and lots more. It was the best vacation I've ever had - and although I've been to about 27 countries, I had never been in a place as naturally breathtaking as Jalousie Plantation on St. Lucia. The pictures - although amazing, still understate the beauty
After 3 days there, we had forgotten what day it was, what week it was, what month it was - and we had forgotten every worry and every care of our normal hectic lives.
We used the all inclusive option, and were really glad that we did. Food was really expensive.
The little cottage that we stayed in was delightful.
It was hot and humid and for ladies who like lots of make-up and hairstyles and dressing up all the time... it really isn't needed in St Lucia, and with the heat and humidity, it really isn't worth doing.
Plan to wear shorts, T-shirts, sleeveless T-shirts, etc. Underdress for almost everything. The notable exception is the fine dining... available only by reservation. It is worth doing, after dark, and dressing up provides a nice contrast to most day's relaxing attire.
The people were amazing. When I left St Lucia, I knew more people at Jalousie Plantation by their first names than I know in the town I live in. Everyone was SO, SO friendly... I think that everyone who works in the hospitality industry should spend a week at Jalousie to experience, first hand, how it feels to be treated so professionally, so wonderfully, and so well. Most of the people who work at Jalousie live in the nearby town of Soufriere. We knew which ones were getting married, where their wives worked, who their brothers and cousins were, and more. (the gentleman who drove the taxi that we rode in twice has a wife who runs a local bar that is on the street next to the water in soufriere... we drove by and said hello to her after buying some local art. The friendly nature of people was a bit beyond words. The friendliness of the people rivalled the awesome beauty of the location.
The food was thoroughly delightful, everything fresh, everything was well-prepared and tasty. I was glad that we had all-inclusive because it was really expensive for those who did not.
Speaking for my wife, everyone in the wedding party and for me too - our only complaint was that we couldn't stay for a few more weeks. We will treasure our vacation and wedding as long as we live.
I have one small complaint - check-out was hectic, and there were some charges on the bill that we disputed. Those charges were removed, and the bill was regenerated. I got the sense that it was routine for people to do that... so check your bill before you leave, and save the receipts - particularly if you have all-inclusive.
