I recently just got back from St. Lucia from my honeymoon. Although I didnt stay at the Hummingbird, I did eat at the resturant several times. I must say my wife and I ate all over the island from cheap places, to gourmet resturants. And we both agreed that the food at the Hummingbird is the islands best by far. I would even go as far as saying not to bother with some of the other resturants around unless you want to just keep ending back at the Hummingbird like we did. The fish is outstanding! The service isnt the greatest, but isn't bad. They even have live music on Wednesday nights.

“Great Rustic Resort”

My Wife and I stayed at the Hummingbird during Thanksgiving week. The Resort is quaint and rustic and is more like a B&B. Our room was a great value at $110/night. This is a no frills resort so do not expect the amenties of the tourist mega resorts up north.

We both thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Most of the staff was knowledgeable and courteous and helped us with directions, reccomendations and tour arrangements. The restaurant serves excellent local cuisine and yes the service is a bit slow. These folks operate on island time, so sit back, relax, and enjoy the awesome view.

The beach is not the greatest, but there are other nearby beaches that are fabulous. The town is close enough to walk to and as a result the locals can be a bit bothersome until you learn to politely tell them you are not interested. We did not feel threatened at any time and there was 24 hour security. The rooms are spartan as one would expect for such reasonable pricing. The only real negative was the mosquitos. Bring bug spray and learn how to use the mosquito netting properly as most of the rooms are open air.

We plan to return here one day and we both heartily recommend this resort to those that want a true Island experience.

“Joyce, here it is!”

Hummingbird Beach Resort

My wife and I were on our honeymoon, island hopping throughout the Carib. for a month or so and instead of lush resorts, we opted for more of an "off the beaten path" approach. We chose the Hummingbird based upon the price after we landed in Castries, and to be frank, we were not disappointed. True, if you expect to have every whim catered and your caprices fulfilled, then go to Sandals or some other resort, or better yet, never leave your home in the US or Europe... but those of us who are truly "world travellers" relish the opportunity to stay somewhere with pleasant accomodations that is away from the hustle and bustle of the tourist trap areas.
Soufriere: small, quaint, and very much an island town, no real negatives aside from the two or three beggars that felt the need to continually accost us. You would think that they would remember when you tell them "no" once!! That being said, it is a great location for jump-offs to jaunts in the rainforest, to waterfalls and, of course, the Pitons.
Rooms: ours was simple, clean, with mosquito net and ceiling fan and since it was the off-season, the rates were very acceptable. The view was magnificent and to fall asleep each night to the ocean sounds was very relaxing. What it lacked in amenities, the view and the surroundings more than made up for. Again, this is not Sandals, so keep that in mind!
Service: it was the off season, not fully staffed yet it still met our needs. The staff was VERY nice and helpful; not only that, but Joyce (the owner) and her husband joined us on two nights for dinner and cocktails. She was very pleasant and any concerns, albeit very few, were adressed ASAP.
Food: We only ate at the resort for dinner three times and all three times the food was fine, not great, but good. One thing that was lacking was a full wine selection but being the off season, I didn't expect a full cellar. The town has several places to dine, and an AMAZING Chinese food rest. that is owned and operated by a Chinese family (in Soufriere, St. Lucia??). You will not run out of choices for food, and all are competitively priced.
This place is out of the way, not a first choice for a lot of people, the drive to Soufriere and beyond can cause a bit of motion sickness with the over 30 switchbacks (and fast taxi drivers), but my wife and I would stay there again.
And Joyce, by the way, your husband is right: your house is now pink, not salmon!! LOL Thank you for the wonderful time in St. Lucia.

This little resort is more of a B & B atmosphere than a resort, however the staff is friendly and helpful. This was closer to the Town of Soufriere than I would of preferred and the town people do harass you. It is centrally located to attractions sulfur springs, pitons, waterfalls and offers a taste of their culture. The food was excellent and made fresh so it does take time to prepare it. The accomadations are average, but the views make up for it.

“Great place and great people”

Hummingbird Beach Resort

While some might say that the rooms did not meet their expectations, I for one as well as the rest of the family and friends thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the resort. If you want top of the line rooms and amenities go to a high priced all-inclusive resort, if you value friendliness, cleanliness and hospitality go there.

The food was excellent at the resort, as were the meals we had in town. Yes, we walked into town during the day and in the evening. The people were always friendly and helpful (which really showed during an emergency). I never once felt threatened or uncomfortable walking in Soufriere. And if somebody bothered us, there were enough of the local people there to actually tell them to go away.

A heartfelt thank you to Joyce and her entire staff.
