We were on a scuba dive trip and stayed at Anse Chastanet in July 2014. Such a remote beach with no traffic from other properties. The diving is excellent and staffed by such friendly and knowledgeable fellows at Scuba St. Lucia. The wait staff were elegant, friendly, invisible and attentive.

Great time! Will go back! Jungle canopy right outside the room veranda.

So this is our third visit to Anse Chastanet and I have to say, the best so far. I’ve reviewed this resort twice before so will try to say something new this time.

You will either love this place or hate it, depending on your personal preferences. If you love being in touch with nature, love good food and a touch of luxury without any pretention, then it is likely you will love it here. Birds will join your breakfast table, you will be bitten by insects, most rooms have no air-con, there is no TV, the beach is volcanic sand...and all this makes it the great experience that it is (maybe not so much the insect bites but a hotel in the rainforest can do little about that!)

Being a returning guest is fantastic and you are treated like an old friend by the wonderful staff.

The snorkelling is great at both ends of the beach and a real highlight was swimming with a turtle.

Two tiny little things to mention – which in no way detract from how highly I rate this resort and seem highly picky (I’m trying to give a balanced view!) are as follows:
1 – the food can be highly salted. I mentioned this before and fully accept that maybe it’s a personal choice and we don’t like as much salt as our predominantly American fellow guests. However on some occasions the cooked vegetables were so salty they were difficult to eat or inedible. I hasten to add however, the food otherwise is fantastic.
2 – towards the end of our holiday we wanted to try something new so opted to look into a 4 hour fishing excursion. It was hugely expensive and so we agreed that if the maximum of 4 people could go on it the cost could be split (it was still expensive, even with splitting it!) so we put our name down and hoped another couple would also wish to go on the trip. Sadly this was not to be. It didn’t spoil the holiday but it would have been nice to have gone on the trip. The full price for just two people was, in my opinion, way too expensive to be justified.

I have travelled to various places around the world including the Far East and other Caribbean destinations, I rarely return to the same place even if it had been great, however Anse Chastanet remains my favourite and I am sure we will return a fourth time!

as per usual it has taken me ages to get round to writing this review for our trip 15/3/2014 - 29/3/2014! this was a special trip to celebrate my wife's birthday so we pushed the boat out travelling first class with british airways (totally awesome) and upgrading to the helicopter transfer to the hotel (seven minutes of sheer thrill ride giving the best arrival view of the hotel flying between the pitons) and the hotel never failed to live up to its promised service. the staff were some of the friendliest we have met, really going out of their way to make you feel special. the rooms were simple but absolutely perfect and the through flow of air through the specially designed windows did work like air conditioning and we just needed the ceiling fan on every now and then. the food was once again some of the finest cuisine we have ever experienced and again the staff always seemed knowledgeable in everything they were asked, we had paid the all inclusive supplement back in the uk and i would definitely recommend this option, especially if you like drinking prosecco on the beach from 9am! the beach bar at anse mamin definitely does serve the best burgers and the short walk to get there must burn off at least enough calories for a couple of extra chips! by pure luck we also managed to spend our last night at the jade mountain hotel further up the hill and this place has to be seen to be believed! the upgrade price was fairly eye watering but then it was a special celebration and was well worth it considering we had our own in room plunge pool and 24hr butler service! the photos on the web really don't prepare you for the breathtaking views and the fact that you are in the open air! all in all a truly mind blowing holiday and i would have no hesitation in returning every year if the bank balance would allow, highly recommended

Room Tip: don't choose rooms on the beach for the air con, you really don't need it

My daughter and I just left this hotel yesterday and it is all I can think about. It is that amazing. We stayed in room 7F which is the most astoundingly beautiful hotel room I have ever stayed in. We ate in all 3 restaurants, had 2 spa treatments each and went on a sunset sail. Everything we pure perfection. Most of all though, we met the most lovely and amazing staff. Everyone was super friendly and accommodating and called us by name. It was a very special experience that I will not forget.

Room Tip: Premium room all the way. Room 7F is gorgeous

Sorry, I don't see a separate area for the restaurant so reviewing it under the hotel listing. We stopped here for lunch while out on a boat trip and really enjoyed it. Portions were generous, food was tasty, and prices were reasonable considering it's a beach resort. Try the curry wrap - it is gigantic! Service was friendly and although the food took a little bit of time, the server made sure we had plenty to drink. :) The view is nice and the atmosphere is relaxing. Side note - the snorkeling here is great! Just make sure you're wearing at least flip flops and a cover-up if you're coming off the beach.

Anse Chastanet was on my bucket list for years, and I finally had the opportunity to go. It met all of my expectations! The room that we had was large, airy, ideally located on the property, and very romantic. The service was top notch, no matter which staff member that I had an encountered. Everyone greets you with a smile, asks you about your day and wishes you a good day. The food was fabulous! Each meal was delicious, and most of the veggies were grown right there on their farm. We went on four guided hikes with Menno - who is a very knowledgeable local man full of energy and good humor! My husband and I are divers, and we took advantage of the onsite dive shop (Scuba St. Lucia). Though we have dove in many other areas in the world (many of which are much better dives) their dive staff were true professionals and provided us with outstanding service!

A huge plus for anyone who is coeliac or on a gluten-free diet - the hotel has its own delicious gluten-free bread which they can use for the afternoon-tea sandwiches and burgers. The staff were also kind enough to fetch some for my husband every morning for breakfast. Staff were in addition very aware of which dishes were gluten free in their restaurants. My husband is coeliac and we happily accept when traveling that this may limit his food options in more isolated locations. So it was an extremely pleasant surprise for him to be so well looked after at Anse Chastanet.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Tranquility, Romance, Adventure: What were Caribbean hotels like when you sat watching the sunset instead of cable TV? You can still find that Classic Caribbean at Anse Chastanet on St. Lucia’s quiet southwestern coast where two magical peaks, the Pitons, leap from the sea and the mountains are covered with luminous greenery.Architect owner Nick Troubetzkoy believes passionately in nature. So he created a hotel that makes the foliage and the flowers, the perfumes and the peaks, the sea and the bird song an integral part of your vacation experience. The estate encompasses 600 lush tropical acres bordering two soft sand beaches. The resort’s two crystal-clear bays are part of a designated marine reserve protecting miles of colorful coral reefs teeming with tropical fish. With such a unique setting as his canvas, Nick Troubetzkoy was inspired to design a one -of-a-kind resort. A dozen rooms are tucked in behind the coconut palms that line the beach and the remainder tip toe up a flower decked hillside, taking advantage of the captivating scenery all around. Anse Chastanet’s ever growing art collection provides a visual feast of its own. There are impressive wooden sculptures and plaques, earthy burlap compositions, painted “sky ceilings” and vibrant acrylic paintings invoking memories of Matisse and Picasso. And while the sensuous seclusion of the rooms provides some guests with the perfect excuse for lolling away the day on the balcony, others head out to partake in the many activities on offer; yoga, snorkeling, scuba diving, tennis, sunset sailing, sea kayaking or jungle biking, hiking and bird-watching among the ruins of an 18th century colonial plantation. ... more   less
