“relaxing break in a beautiful setting”

Anse Chastanet

Jun 20, 2008

I have just returned from a week's stay at Anse Chastanet and would throughly recommend it.

I was looking for a relaxing break and Anse delivered, with customer service second to none. On the suggestion of another TripAdvisor reviewer we opted for their "all inclusive" package which I would also recommend as once at Anse you are quite isolated.

Unless you go out for the odd exursion you will spend all of your time at Anse - and you will not want to go anywhere else to eat because the food on offer is of a high standard. If you don't opt for the "all inclusive" the meals separately are quite expensive.

The other positives: rooms are spacious and have lovely views of the pitons and the beach, the staff are very welcoming, the hotel is very well positioned and the design is well thought out - blending in with the local landscape rather than imposing on it. Thankfully, it doesn't really feel like a traditional souless hotel.

The only down sides are : the rooms have fans rather than air con and it is not always easy to sleep in the heat. Although they spray the rooms with repellent I found the mosquitos to be a real problem. I have travelled extensively and am not usually prone to bites but I got eaten alive here! The worst bites I have ever had!!

On the last day we had to vacate our room at 12 although our flight wasn't until later in the afternoon. The only place they offered for us to have a shower and get ready was at the spa. The spa doesn't really have very good facilities. It was a struggle to get ready in the sweaty, (no fan) dark, shower room which had no where to put anything / no mirror etc. By the time we climbed back up the steps to the main hotel, with our bags, we might as well have not bothered taking a shower. Not a good end to our stay - especially before a long flight back to the UK!

On Tuesdays everyone eats down on the beach. This buffet style meal was the only slightly disappointing meal, I didn't think was up to the usual standard. We also had the impression that this meal would be a bit different entertainment wise - and there would be a bit of a 'party' atmosphere down on the beach - but it was no different from any other night - we just ate our meal and left!

Finally, I went to the Kai Belte spa on the first day and had a bindi massage - it was fine / nice but I was not overly impressed. I thought the spa could do with a bit of an overhaul it was a bit scruffy!

All in all if you are looking for a relaxing break, with nice food - and where everything is done for you this is a great place. There are plenty of other things to do excursion wise, including scuba diving, biking etc. but I was just looking for an opportunity to relax for a week! It was a great holiday and I would go back again. Just watch out for those steps - you have to be quite fit to manage those every day.

This is the first time I have ever written a review but I felt I must because of how AMAZING this place is!! Me and my hubby stayed here on our honeymoon May 27-June 2. We did the Total Romance- All Inclusive Package. It was absolutely gorgeous!! We stayed in room 2C. The view from our room was breath taking...the Pitons on our left and the ocean to our right! After walking into our room the first day, we decided to add on another night!! We originally toyed with the idea of upgrading to Jade Mountain on our last night but opted to stay an extra day instead...it was nearly the same amount...

The staff was GREAT!! Everyone was so friendly. Most of the staff knew my name/room number by the 2nd night. My husband and I felt like celebrities....and there were some celebrities there during our stay... :)

You must do the All Inclusive...if not, a couple will spend at least $200 per day for meals. Plus, with the All Inclusive, you get to do some really cool tours. The Jungle Bike Riding was the best. The Volcano Tour and Mineral Baths/ Botantical Gardens tour was okay...but I am not that in to gardens. The waterfall was beautiful, though! Also, do the Fish Fry on Friday..the food, music and local atmosphere are awesome!! The spa is GREAT!!

The food is way better than I expected for an all-inclusive. The Indian themed restaurant is the best!

BEWARE: The mesquitoes are HORRIBLE!!! Don't forget to pack your repellent, especially because it costs like $10 US in the resort store.

It was also a hassle to sign for everything (if you're on the all inclusive) and I was worried that we would get stuck with a huge bill at the end...but we didn't!! So just be patient and wait to sign your check!

This place was GREAT!! The hubby and I are going back in 5 years....we're going to stay in Jade Mountain...FYI, they give tours of Jade Mountain..you MUST see this place...it's AMAZING!!!

GO TO ANSE CHASTANET!!! There are not enough great things that I can say about this place!

After almost going to Sandals in St. Lucia and having a HORRIFIC experience with customer service and booking, a friend recommended Anse Chastenet. Needless to say, it was the greatest 7-night honeymoon I could have ever asked for. Everything, from the rooms, to the luxury, was unbelievable. At first we were worried about the hurricane season, and it did rain for about a half an hour or an hour each day, but other than that we had no problems. If you are going, take advantage of the all-inclusive option and the activities that most all-inclusive places do not offer as part of the "deal" such as a couples Swedish massage, a Scuba diving lesson, a tour of the Sulphur springs and mineral baths, and a tour of Anse Mamin. The customer service was so incredible that we were upgrade to Jade Mountain for the last night of our honeymoon because they had to cancel a sailboat trip. If you can ever afford it, Jade Mountain was the most luxurious place I've ever seen in my life. Doing one "activity" a day, made the delicious dinners in the Tree House even better. My only complaint was that service was slow (they are on island time....it's the Carribean!) and that I was too stuffed from eating to fully take advantage of the frozen drinks. All in all, I don't know if we'd ever be able to afford it again, but we want to go back for an anniversary! Our pictures of the Pitons don't even do it slight justice.

“Wonderful Stay for Best Friend's Wedding!”

Anse Chastanet

Jun 5, 2008
2/2 found this review helpful

My wife and I went to Anse Chastanet last year for my best friend's wedding and had a wonderful time. We were there 7/3/07-7/8/07. The ride to the resort was a little rough only in that the place is remote, but resort is great! All the rooms at Anse Chastanet are individual open air structures (no A/C) of timber construction. Don't worry, they are high enough off the ground that people can not see in and the beds have mosquito netting (the room does have ceiling fans and you can put a fan next to the bed). Our friends that got married there got upgraded to the Jade Mountain resort at the top of the mountain and it was awesome! Every room is fantastic w/ infinity pool, a private resturant on the top floor w/ a sky deck lounge on the roof of the structure (that is where my friends got married). There are bridges that cross to each level of rooms. Check it out on google earth - you can actually see the bridges and pools. Pictures do not do Jade Mountain justice. Back to Anse Chastanet, the only difficult part is since it is on the side of a cliff/mountain you have 300 steps to the beach. So make sure you pack your bag for the day when you go down to the beach in the am. Several people in our group scuba dive and Anse Chastanet caters to that as one of the best diving areas is right off the beach - you can even go snorkeling threre too, just get your gear and swim out and start exploring. The service was excellent all around. The food was very good too. My favorite part was just going down to the beach and sitting below the covered palm tree huts and just reading a book/relaxing and having drinks/food catered to us. You just put up a flag and the wait staff takes your order and brings it back to you! The resort does not have a pool, but it is a tropical paradise and does not need it as the beach is perfect! We took one of the sunset cruises and that should not be missed as we saw dolphins and rainbows in addition to a closer look at the Pitons from the water. We would not have probably never found out about Anse Chastanet or heard about it if my friends did not book their wedding there as it most definitely one of the most romantic places we have ever been (if you do not mind no A/C and the steps - to me that was a small sacrifice for the tropical paradise we got to experience)!

“Amazing Honeymoon!”

Anse Chastanet

May 28, 2008

We stayed 7 nights in room 8B for our honeymoon. Needless to say, it was amazing! Our room, while small and basic, had the most beautiful view of the water. The room was at the top of the resort. Yes, there are many stairs, but it did not bother us a bit! The staff was always helpful, friendly, and went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. The food was delicious, however I would recommend the all inclusive package as I think it would get expensive otherwise. We booked the Total Romance Package and enjoyed all of the activities and trips the resort had to offer. The resort is wonderful in that you can relax all day on the beach, snorkel, kayak or take a day trip - it's whatever you prefer. Be warned - this isn't the Four Seasons. You are paying for a different type of "luxury" hotel. If you want the spa and pampering of a Ritz I would stay away. However if you are looking for a vacation that is upscale but off the beaten path, then by all means book. We will definitely be back!
