“PARADISE!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 12, 2012

If you are looking at this review all I can say is BOOK IT! I read reviews on this property for days and am so glad I had the opportunity to stay at Anse Chastanet.
I just came back from this hotel (stayed Nov4-10th) and it truly was Paradise. I am a flight attendant and have had the opportunity to travel many places this truly is one of the best I have ever stayed at.
I never left the property at all during our week visit....why leave Paradise. Thing is Anse Chastanet is like a small village . For the amount of rooms there are at the property, there are so many areas to explore just on the property alone, you can also go up to Jade Mountain (more on that later).
First of all lets address the steps. Yes, there are steps down to the beach however don't imagine 100 steps just straight down. Imagine breath taking scenery as you descend towards the beach. With many places to stop even sit if needed.along the way. Most people will not need to sit but there is that option. There are so many interesting things to look at while you descend and ascend. So please don't let the steps steer you away from booking this property.
The beach at this place is paradise. It truly is one of the best beaches I have been to. Quiet , beautiful sand , blue water . There's little Cous Cous huts all along the beach that provide great shade. And the beach service is the best. You put up your little yellow flag in the sand . We never waited more than 2-4 minutes and someone was there to take our drink and or food order.
The food is fantastic! I love food and this resort knows how to prepare and present food. If there's something you don't like, just ask. I read one review that a person said they don't know how to cook fish at this resort. Well I ate fish every night and it was always cooked perfect. That's the one thing I look for in a resort is excellent food and this place certainly has it.
There's lots of variety and many different options for dining , We only ate at the same restaurant for dinner twice. You will not be disappointed with the food.
We were on the all inclusive package, which i would recommend.. Especially if you like to have a few cocktails. We had many and they know how to blend and pour great drinks.
We stayed in the Beachfront Deluxe rooms. Yes, there's no view but WOW they are beautiful. Steps from the beach. And they have a huge private patio area with two very very comfortable lounge chairs, table and chairs, and a double hammock. Most afternoons we came back for a little nap on our patio before heading back to the beach to watch the sunset.
Be sure to go up to Jade Mountain. I went there for Yoga on several mornings and we had lunch at the restaurant. If you are on the all inclusive ,there is no service charge for lunch however there is at dinner. Our meal was delicious. Be sure to go to the Beach Grill on the second beach....great burgers!
The property has so many things to do or you really can do nothing at all. We never had many bugs at all. There are sand flees but they arent bad at all. Avon has a product called Skin so Soft that works great for sand flees we used this and had no problems .
When we arrived Peter(staff member) told us that the staff loves to spoil their guests. He was a man of his word. We felt like royalty. The staff is always smiling and nothing is an inconvience.
They get to know your names and go out of their way to help .
If you are lucky enough to have Janice as your waitress always order what she tells you to, she's always right. Not that anything on the menu is not great.
I do hope this review gives you a little insight into an amazing resort. Now stop reading and just BOOK IT! It really is Paradise. i will be returning again next year.

We are currently on a 2 week holiday at Anse Chastenet and couldn't wait to post a report.

From the moment we stepped out of our transport from the airport we have only been met with happy smiling faces and big welcomes. OK, the road to the hotel itself is long and bumpy but once there you need not use it again until you leave. There is plenty of water taxi transport available (agree price before you get in the boat) and numerous trips available should you feel the need to leave the beach, which is volcanic sand and does get hot in the sun. The snorkelling off the beach is excellent (so far have taken over 600 fish photos) both in the reserve and at the north end of the beach.

Service on the beach and in the restaurants is good, although can be a little slow when the hotel is full - but you are on holiday so does it matter, no. You are here to relax and enjoy and thats what you should do. Food so far has been excellent - the dinners in the evening particularly could be regarded as fine dining - with menus created by Head Chef Jonathan Dearden. Portions are not huge but are more than enough - we have only managed to have two desserts so far. Lunch options are more limited but as long as you are not a faddy eater you can have something different every day and then there is also the grill at Anse Mamin beach ( a short walk away) where the best burger in the world is made.

Now to the rooms. These are of various styles and grades. We are lucky enough to be a premium room (Room 7A) with King size bed, divan bed, sofa and chair, fridge, coffee maker and kettle. There is a bathroom with large shower, twin sinks, lots of towels and large wardrobe space. The large balcony has two lounges, small sofa and table with two chairs. The view of the Pitons on one side and the Caribbean Sea on the other are just superb.

Its true there are lots of steps up from the beach to the main dining room and reception are and then from there up to the rooms (there are 300 steps from the beach to our room) but are good exercise after all the food. A shuttle service is available to those who feel they cannot face the walk.

If people research this hotel before they arrive they will know what to expect. Yes there are no TVs, phones or air conditioning (a/c is available in beach side rooms only). Some rooms have walls missing so there is natural air conditioning when the soft winds are blowing in, otherwise fans are available.

This hotal is just beautiful and we will be coming back for sure.

Room Tip: Rooms higher up the hill are cooler as they catch the breeze better.

When my husband and I recently went to St. Lucia for a much needed vacation, we were very pleased to have picked and stayed at Anse Chastanet, and what a SPOT!! WOW is a word that comes to mind when thinking of this place. The hotel was amazing and the room we stayed in (7B) had an excellent view of the Pitons...(besides trying to get me off the beach, getting me out of the room was just as tough)

Although it is a few steps away from the beach they have shuttles dedicated to driving people up and down but my husband and I thought it was a blessing in disguise as we needed to work off all the amazing food from the 5 DIFFERENT menus! We never got tired of the food because it changed regularly, not to mention it was very filling!

When we checked out the excursions offered through the hotel we were pleasantly surprised at all there was to offer. There were many things we wanted to do and unfortunately couldn't try them all and it was a toss up between the half day sailing and the Jazzy sunset cruise (only available on Thursdays) and we decided to do....BOTH!! and we are so glad we did! The sailing was a good way to experience more of St. Lucia from the water. When we looked back at the hotel we were amazed to not only see the sister property JADE MOUNTAIN but Anse Chastanet nestled away as part of the landscape...On the sailing trip we enjoyed yummy snacks and drinks along with having a very informative guide.

When we went on the Jazzy sunset cruise we were lucky to have a great sunset that night..the o'hordes and drinks topped off the evening. All on board enjoyed....We will be back to do this again.

The snorkeling from the Anse Chastanet beach was the best we have ever experienced in the caribbean...and the guys at the dive shop were more than helpful..especially when I lost the snorkel mask that was provided by the hotel at the bottom of the reef...I felt so bad but they said not to worry about it and the very next day one of the guys from the dive shop found me on the beach to let me know that they had got it when they went for a shore dive that morning...now THAT'S service!

ALL OF the staff was top notch...the safety and comfort we felt at this hotel seemed to be top priority...we never had any issues with the service and I think we even came away with a few extra St. Lucian friends who couldn't do enough for us! They were right there even before we knew what we wanted lol..... i wanted to bring a few of them home with me...thanks guys, I'll definitely beeee back.... If I could, I would give this hotel 6 stars!

If you have any questions... feel free to ask!

Fabulous location and amazing Eco friendly architecture. Beautiful view of the Pitons. Service good, although not always with a smile. No pool, but who needs one when you have the Caribbean Sea outside your room. It is built on a slope so some rooms may be a bit of a trek to get to/from .

This is a beautiful resort nestled in the jungle of St. Lucia. All rooms are beautiful and very clean. We were first placed in a room several steps above the restaurant. It was a big hike but had a beautiful view. We were there in late October, weather was hot & humid. Upper rooms have great views but no air conditioning, only ceiling fans. Most Europeans didn't mind the heat but us California residents got too hot and were able to move to an Ocean Room. We did not have the view but had air conditioning which was much better for us. Wear comfortable shoes because there is alot of walking up and down steep stairs to get around the resort. Food was beyond excellent!! Chef Jonnathan and his crew prepared gourmet meals for lunch and dinner. We had the semi-inclusive meal plan (did not include beverages). Be aware, beverages are expensive, $6.49 us dollars for a soft drink.
Scuba Center was outstanding. Crew was very organized, well trained, helpful, professional as well as friendly. Diving was beautiful.

Like another reviewer said...Wow! This place is amazing! We had an open air room with a view of the Pitons that was simply incredible. You could just sit there all day and take in the view if there weren't so many other things to do. We tried most of them. Biking the trails through the forest was a highlight as was snorkeling right off the beach. I'm a diver and the snorkeling here is better than many dives I've been on. My wife spent time in the spa and loved it. We walked over to the second beach, Anse Mamin, and felt like we were on our own tropical island. We were the only ones there other than the bartender and the cook who served us the best burgers we've ever had. And speaking of food, we tried all the restaurants and found the food and the service to be outstanding. We especially liked the Indian Restaurant down on the beach which served some very unique and tasty dishes. It's a bit of a walk up a hill and some stairs to and from the beach but we found this to be no problem. It made for a nice walk down in the morning and there was always a shuttle waiting to take us back at night if we didn't feel like walking. If you do walk you may be tempted to stop at the bar on the way up for a refreshment or just to take in the amazing view or watch the sunset. The staff at this property is what really made our holiday though. Everyone has a smile on their face and they are always there to take care of you. All in all this was one of the best holidays we've ever been on...we'll be back.

My wife and I had a fantastic stay here and we are already looking for an excuse to return. One of the reasons we had such a good time was because we researched our holiday carefuly and there are a few things to be aware of if you are planning on coming here. A few headlines:

- Food and drink is expensive if you are not on a 'meal deal'. Some might say shockingly so. The all-inclusive option for a week+ stay is an absolute must and we felt it was excellent value.
- As you have probably gathered from other reviews by now - the hillside location of the resort means you will get very familiar with climbing steps. We quite liked this though as it helped keep the calories off.
- As the sun goes in, the biting insects come out. Obtain some strong repellent for when you are in the bar or restaurant. The room is fine thanks to good mosquito nets around the bed and anti-bug burners.
- No air con. Not an issue if you are up in Jade Mountain with a private pool, but the heat can become oppressive at times.

The food was excellent, varied, fresh, cooked to perfection and interesting. Service was (nearly) always conducted with a smile and was attentive and effecient. You can order wine by the glass (a choice of 3 reds, 3 whites) if you are on the all inclusive plan which are quite pleasant. Breakfast comes in the form of a buffet which was always an excellent start to the day. We were both very impressed with the quality of food on offer.

There is a truly awful road to be traversed if you are entering or leaving the resort, which makes you seriously think twice about any excursions unless it is via boat. This is a surprising feature considering attention to detail in the rest of the resort. Two beautiful beaches are available with thankfully only a bare mimimum of pestering from a couple of the locals which the hotel obviously tolerates. We didn't use the scuba centre but the snorkelling was excellent - you only need to travel a few meters from the beach to find teeming varietes of sealife.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Tranquility, Romance, Adventure: What were Caribbean hotels like when you sat watching the sunset instead of cable TV? You can still find that Classic Caribbean at Anse Chastanet on St. Lucia’s quiet southwestern coast where two magical peaks, the Pitons, leap from the sea and the mountains are covered with luminous greenery.Architect owner Nick Troubetzkoy believes passionately in nature. So he created a hotel that makes the foliage and the flowers, the perfumes and the peaks, the sea and the bird song an integral part of your vacation experience. The estate encompasses 600 lush tropical acres bordering two soft sand beaches. The resort’s two crystal-clear bays are part of a designated marine reserve protecting miles of colorful coral reefs teeming with tropical fish. With such a unique setting as his canvas, Nick Troubetzkoy was inspired to design a one -of-a-kind resort. A dozen rooms are tucked in behind the coconut palms that line the beach and the remainder tip toe up a flower decked hillside, taking advantage of the captivating scenery all around. Anse Chastanet’s ever growing art collection provides a visual feast of its own. There are impressive wooden sculptures and plaques, earthy burlap compositions, painted “sky ceilings” and vibrant acrylic paintings invoking memories of Matisse and Picasso. And while the sensuous seclusion of the rooms provides some guests with the perfect excuse for lolling away the day on the balcony, others head out to partake in the many activities on offer; yoga, snorkeling, scuba diving, tennis, sunset sailing, sea kayaking or jungle biking, hiking and bird-watching among the ruins of an 18th century colonial plantation. ... more   less
