“The beautiful island of St. Lucia”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 19, 2013 via mobile

I traveled to St. Lucia with my husband and sister in law. We stayed at the Landings for 7 days. We just returned yesterday, and miss it so much. The Landings is beautiful.....the rooms are gorgeous, beach is clean and beautiful, and everyone at the Landings is so friendly and nice! Our favorite was walking to pigeon island and hiking to the top. The resort has a stunning view of pigeon island. I highly recommend the breakfast package. It was delicious and has a great menu at the beach club bar. We definitely would recommend it to our family and friends. We want to go back!!!

My wife and I have been bringing members of our family here since The Landings opening in early 2008. After some start-up problems, everything about the property has steadily improved. The staff is extremely helpful; if they don't know the answer, they will find out. Units all have a full kitchen and some have a plunge pool on the balcony.

The property is very beautiful and well maintained, we couldn't have asked any more as to the accomodations. The rooms were very spacious and the master suite bed amazingly comfortable and big. We found the staff to to be gracious and willing to help. Everyone on staff seems to subscribe to the Disney model of meeting guests with a smile. The beach and water front were well maintained and there were things like watercraft that you could check out. The beach has a very nice panoramic view of Pigeon Island to the right and Rodney Bay to the left.
Straight ahead is open water. We primarily ate at the Beach Club restaurant because it was closest to our room and this is where our included breakfast was served. Also, the Palm restaurant wasn't open every night. The food at the Beach Club was excellent and the choices varied. The hotel offered daytime shuttles 3 times a day to go to Rodney Bay if you wanted to pick up groceries or shop for trinkets. After 4 o'clock you were on you own if you needed to go there for dinner. It cost $15.00 US one way. The Friday night barbeque was the most fun with everyone in the hotel showing up. They had an excellant jazz sax player named Rob Z who made it all the more enjoyable,.Now having given this glowing report, I will say that this was an expensive vacation for a party of 3 adults. Eating offsite and doing any sightseeing tours does add up as well as the transportation charges. This is not the fault of the hotel, it's just the way things are. US dollars are taken almost everywhere and I would bring at least $600.00 US cash for a week unless you are going all inclusive. We enjoyed our stay and it's too soon to say if we would return to the island. All in all, I'm glad that we came to visit.

Just returned from a 1 week stay with my boyfriend as a treat to ourselves after finishing uni and could not fault our stay a bit! Arrived at the beginning of the down season and so were upgraded to a 2-bed apartment with a sea and harbour view (great start to our holiday!) Not only were the rooms amazing and constantly kept that way but the service by all staff in the hotel, beach club restaurant and the shuttle driver was unforgettable! Great service and amazing island to visit, will definitely return ! Thank you to everyone that looked after us! And a special thank you to Gemma from the beach club who brought fresh mangoes to our room before we left and even showed us the traditional way to eat them!

Fabulous, spacious, luxurious accommodation in their 'villa-suites'. Very comfortable. Most had views of the harbour, the beach or a few beach & harbour. We were offered either harbour view with a small plunge pool on balcony or a beach & harbour view without. We chose the latter. It was over a bridge on the opposite side of the main development, where the newest block was under construction.

The staff are amazingly helpful so do ask for an upgrade or ideally a beach facing room as I'm sure they'll upgrade you if they had availability.

Surprising for a recently built development, there was no wifi in the bedrooms which was bad news for iPads; wifi only in reception & the beach restaurant. You'd be okay with a laptop though as the 'villa-suites' do have Ethernet cable connection.

Its beautiful here but not an awful lot to do, so if you are the non-stop active type, book at one of the all-inclusives.

The accommodation was more like an apartment than a hotel suite. The kitchen has quality Miele appliances & throughout it was high quality & very luxurious. We were SO comfortable. Every member of staff did their best to ensure we had everything we needed.

You need to hire a car if you regularly go into Rodney Bay for dinner & shopping. Having said that most people managed with the hotel's free morning shuttle buses for shopping trips locally.

If you hire a car to see more of the island, a jeep is definitely the best option. Main roads are well surfaced. Some minor roads & off the beaten track roads have potholes so if your a nervous driver, take taxis. My husband thought it was great fun negotiating the hair-pin bends & steep hills but it's not for everyone.

Food at the beach restaurant could be better but the willingness of the staff to help was wonderful. The Sunday lunch buffet was the best. Never got to try their main Palms restaurant though.

Wouldn't come again in June as its been a little too wet & overcast although warm with a pleasant breeze even whilst raining. This is time for bargain rooms at the Landings though.

Many thanks to all the staff at the Landings for an fabulous stay.

Thank you for staying with us. We do appreciate your comments, and you are 100% correct that we should have WiFi in all villas. As an interim measure, we have wireless routers available on request. We expect to have the WiFi properly outfitted EVERYWHERE before the end of this year. Thank you again for your comments. We look forward to welcoming you back.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 11, 2013

Let me start off by saying we had a wonderful time staying here. We went the first week of June and the occupancy was very low so at times it felt as if we had the place to ourselves.

The good and the great.......

We rented a 3 bedroom beachfront condo and the view was spectacular! The rooms were very clean and the maid service was spot on. We turned away the turndown service most nights but they did show up each night to offer it.

The food quality at the beach front restaurant was very good. The banana bread that is made onsite is to die for!

The service staff a the beach front restaurant were the friendliest people we met on the entire island. By the second day they knew and remembered the names of my children and were engaging and made us feel extremely welcome. One waitress (Clayma?)even came out to play with my son and challenge him to a few beach races(see the pictures below). He is still talking about her! Major thanks to how awesome she was!

The pool areas(we hit 2 of the pools) were very well kept up. Again most days we were the only ones there but the pools were nice with lots of chairs and a good mixture of what seems like an adult oriented pool by the beach and a more kid friendly "main" pool with 2 wading pool areas that are great for the little ones that cannot yet swim.

The beach was also fantastic. Not the most crystal clear water I have seen in the Caribbean but still pretty nice no complaints here! The sand was great for playing and wading out up to chin deep and there is even a small amount of coral and fish near the sea wall that even the young ones can wade out to and practice a little snorkeling (not dive quality but good for the kiddos). All the watersports activities were no fee and the Hobie Cats were in great shape as were the sea kayaks.

Area's to improve. These were mostly minor and did not ruin out stay by any means but to be excellent they need addressed.

The room.

Ice maker never worked in the room. That said the bar did bring us up some ice but the ice maker never worked or worked so little we never noticed any ice. The staff said they checked it and it worked. I disagree. No WIFI in room, but the plug in internet did work just fine. Not so great for searching your ipad for a great place to eat at night.

Replace the shower heads in the rooms! The fine stream scatter pattern is horrible for washing long hair filled with sand and sea salt. The ones by the pool are much better but not ideal for naked showering. :-)

Our last night there the elevator died. Seems like a theme at this property. We called about it and it was not fixed by the time we checked out. Slightly bothersome to carry luggage down the stairs for 8 people.

Food....

The restaurant would do better to mix up the menu a bit. The food was great but after staying 8 nights you run out of choices. The process of ordering and eating breakfast was very slow on mornings that only the al la cart menu was offered. It took close to an hour from sitting down to having all or food to eat on these days. I understand on low occupancy days the buffet may not be cost effective but 30+ min to make 5 orders of pancakes is a bit much.

Miscellaneous misses.

The watersports staff refused to haul out the second Hobie cat for us to use. Putting 4 full grown men on one Hobie cat is not very comfortable. The staff member commented that he was not allowed to let one set of guests take more than none boat out at a time. This did not happen any other day but this one particular staff member seemed to be a bit on the lazy side. We even told him we would haul it down but he refused to let us take it. No one else was using it why not go for guest satisfaction here?

The hotel needs to invest in some children's sized life vests that are not coming apart at the seams. The one we were offered to my son had more holes than a piece of Swiss cheese and the flotation was sticking out of it! Major irritation here.

Certain staff members seem like they do not know anything about the island they live on. For instance when we asked the attendant at the driveway gate for directions to the Cap Mansion(actually only about 5 min from the hotel) he had no idea what it was. This is a pretty popular place to eat dinner(highly recommended) and this guy did not know it existed? A different fellow at the front gate knew everything there was to know about the island but you never knew what you were going to get with each person doing the same job. Several other staff members at the front desk had this same lack of knowledge of things like the best grocery store, the best gift shop, good place to buy beach toys, good restaurants ect.

Things others complain about but the hotel cannot do anything about...
.
Public beach access. Yes all beaches are public on saint Lucia. It was never a problem for us but on Saturday there was a pretty big party going on the beach next to us. So what. Get a drink and join in. Locals are pretty friendly!

Freelance merchants.

The fruit man in his little boat that drives by in his boat is a cool guy. Good fruit good price. Entertaining! "Frooot man here...get you frooots! honk honk!". The only guy that rubbed us the wrong way was the guy making fish and roses out of palm leaves. Runs up to our kids and gives them the items, says they are free then tried to extort money from me. I am a big guy and do not take anything from anyone, but being in another country I did not exactly want to fight this guy over $1. Hotel security shooed him off quickly. Again what can you do? Public access. With any of the peddlers the best thing to do is say "no thank you I am not interested" do not tell them you do not have any money. You are staying at a $1000/ night resort. They wont believe you! :-)

To recap none of the misses were deal breakers nor did they significantly dampen our days enjoyment(except the life vest issue. someone could die if they thought that raggedy thing would save a kids life). They were just small disappointments from an otherwise great vacation! Thinking back this may be due to the slow part of the season or the fact that the entire time we were there we never saw or talked to a manager. Granted we had no huge complaints but at a place like this renting what must be one of the most expensive rooms albeit in a cheaper season you would think we would have at least ran into the manager once or twice.

Anyway I would recommend the landings in a heartbeat!

We have absolutely no complaints about our stay at The Landings - what a great experience!

Our two-bedroom suite was very large and very clean upon arrival. It was really nice to have a kitchen and an added bonus to have a private jacuzzi on the back balcony (which overlooked the marina). We were very happy with all the amenities - two pools right next to our building, both of which were always empty, so it was like having our own private pools. The beach was very nice as well. We even took out a Hobie Cat, after a lesson from Milo, which was a lot of fun! We ate at the Beach Club, for breakfast and lunch, and found their food to be delicious.

Excellent service all around - from Carina and Anne Marie at the front desk to Shane the bellman. Everyone we encountered greeted us with a smile and a hello.

Thank you to everyone at The Landings for providing excellent service and a beautiful resort. We had a poor experience next door at the Sandals Grande, and we couldn't have been happier to move to The Landings. The experience was like night and day!

We intend to return to St. Lucia one day, and when that day comes, we will undoubtedly stay at The Landings.
