“One week AI at Coco Palm Resort”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 24, 2013

We have not long returned from a week AI at this hotel. We stayed in a garden patio room. The hotel was great, very clean and staff were extremely helpful. Beach is a little 5 min stroll away from hotel if you use the short cut up a dirt track.if you exit by the front door it is post posted. The beach is beautiful. You can hire sun beds on the beach for approx 15 - 20 dollars a day for 2 with umbrella. However prices are up for negotiations with the locals on the beach :) and will move them any where you would like so you can avoid the cruise ship masses on certain days.
Hotel is small but had everything you would need. Food was good and catered for a fussy eater :) nothing was too much trouble. Only regret we didn't stay for 2 weeks.

Room Tip: Garden, pool patio room have out door space. Garden rooms are quieter.

Coco Palms is a nice hotel in a great locatIon. While not oceanfront, it has a lovely pool and very nice open air bar/ restaurant. Easy walks to malls, beach, many diverse restaurants and the marine. Rental cars available by the mall for further ventures. Low cabfare to pigeon island. Staff was very impressive both at the front desk and in the bar/ restaurant. Charming, in fact. We loved our vacation there!

Room Tip: Suites were lovely, walkout rooms to the pool great also.

We booked a 12 night All Inclusive package for our early winter escape
Arriving just after sunset we were welcomed in reception and quickly checked in
Our room was very clean and comfortable in this pretty boutique hotel
After a short rest we headed to the restaurant for dinner and we were very disappointed by the range of food on the buffet, however we were tired after our journey.
The next morning at breakfast we found that the choice of food was still rather limited, 2 cereal options, bacon, sausage and only scrambled egg
Lunch was more appealing when we saw the menu which had a choice of toasted baguettes, burgers and roti's
Dinner was A la Cate too with a choice of starters and a selection of fish, chicken. lamb and pork and dishes plus vegetarian penne and spaghetti bolognese, followed by a good selection of deserts
Sunday morning we were surprised to see a chef cooking eggs to order, but this was a one off as we never saw them again
The menus for Lunch and dinner varied between buffet and A la Carte
Buffet was poor by our previous experiences
Al a Carte was good, however the A La Carte menu did become tiring after a week as it had not changed since we arrived, this did change right at the end of our stay
We found during our stay if you did not want buffet for lunch you could have baguettes or burgers, but we were never told of this by the staff, when being seated
I also saw a guest eating an omelette for breakfast, so gain presumably you had to ask for this
There were restaurants close by Indian Chinese Tapas Steak & Pizza, which we were tempted to visit if dinner was buffet
The staff were all very pleasant and friendly and we did not have any complaints with them, but our impression was that they weren't encouraged to offer what was available each day
The pool was very welcome in the heat of the day and only 4 foot deep, with a shallow stretch 1 foot deep where you could lie half in the water half in the sun, sipping a cocktail or reading a book
The beach was a 5-10 minute stroll away, in between the hotels on the beach you could rent loungers and parasols
It was safe to stroll down to the beach, every one we saw outside of the hotel being friendly and welcoming, never once did we feel threatened

Room Tip: Pool View Rooms up to 2,4,6,8,10,12 have full pool views 14,16,18,20,22 have partial views

We went here for 7 days on an all-inclusive plan that covered meals and drinks.

This hotel was excellent value for the price of the all-inclusive package. The hotel is clean, well maintained and very centrally located.

Accomodation - Garden View Room
Our room was clean and spacious. It was very quiet, we could only hear the birds in the morning and frogs/crickets at night. You can sometimes hear the cleaners or guests passing in the hallway but that’s any hotel. I think if quiet is priority get one of the garden view rooms because they face the back of the hotel. The bed was large and comfortable and there was an old tv with cable. The room was not modern (nice furniture though) and some of the fittings were fairly old so this is one area in which the hotel can improve.

Food and Drink
The food was very good. A good mix of caribbean specialties (personally I would have liked a bit more of these on the dinner menu) and more standard fare. The Koko Cabana restaurant is a lovely open space and made for a great start and end to each day. The smaller restaurant (Creole) showcases the caribbean menu fully but is open only for lunch. We ate there once and it was good as well. There are fresh local juices everyday (eg. passion fruit) that we enjoyed, along with all the usual bar stuff. Premium liquor is not covered in the all inclusive but we enjoyed the generic ones they provided along with the cocktails. Sadly there was no coconut water at the bar, fresh coconut water would have put them over the top!

Location
Excellent location about a 5 minute walk from the less touristy and probably more gorgeous side of Reduit beach. It’s also located about 5 minutes from the Malls and groceries for shopping or grabbing a local bus into Castries or Gros Islet. Of course it would have been ideal had it been on the beach but would have made it further from the main central area.

Service
The staff was attentive, helpful and genuinely warm and friendly. They made us feel special throughout our stay, and are truly a credit to the hotel. In my opinion they provided an exceptional level of service. We generally interacted more with the bar/rest staff and the bar manager, Deme, went above and beyond to meet a couple of special requests we had. It would be a disservice if I did not thank the rest of bar/rest staff as well, especially Sean, Shady, Kurt, Esther, Rhoda, Lise and Curline.

Gym/Spa

Did not use the spa so cannot comment but the gym was old with no AC, and really could have been better.

Overall, I would definitely recommend this hotel to others, as it’s top value for money. I would not describe this hotel as modern, boutique or luxury but it’s fantastic staff, good food and excellent location make it a wise choice for a holiday in St Lucia.

Room Tip: Garden View room for quiet.

Very cheerful staff & clientele, albeit with the occasional guest resorting to "reserving" his pool space with a towel (sad that a Brit needs to be so Germanic!)
The menu varied from excellent to mediocre-the breakfasts particularly boring when the omelette service was not operational. It tended to be repetitious at times.
The all-inclusive policy of excluding many of the cocktails as "premium" is contradictory - and disappointing for those who consume alcohol relatively sparingly.

Room Tip: The rooms with swim-up pool are excellent!

We have been visiting St Lucia for several years and we have made the Coco Palm our “home away from home” for many trips. We returned to Coco Palm this past Thanksgiving with our entire family (16 of us), to share this amazing island, wonderful hotel and its outstanding staff with our relatives. From the moment we arrived, our relatives had only one confirming statement, “we now know why you visit St Lucia and Coco Palm so many times”.

Lots of small but significant changes have been made in 2013:
• Rooms are being upgraded with Flat Screen TV’s
• A second restaurant (Créole) has been added and the authentic St Lucian dishes are simply amazing (try the whole Red Snapper, it’s the best I have had anywhere)
• The Entertainment continues to be great and offers something for everyone (you are in luck if you can catch the Country & Western Band - the lead singer is very good)
• The main restaurant seating has been expanded
• The dining choices in the main restaurant has specials every night
• The All Inclusive Plan is great especially for Families (and it’s not often that you stay on an AI plan where you order off the Menu. The Buffets are very good with variety)

The staff at the Coco Palm continues to be its heart and soul. Claudine, Diane, Sandy, Peppy, the Front Desk Team, the restaurant team , Shady “Squidward”, Raphiq, Dwight “Patrick”, Sean “SpongeBob”, ….everyone, continue to make the Coco Palm one of the hidden gems in St Lucia and the Caribbean.

Thanks to the entire Coco Palm family for making our stays there so special. See You All Soon!!!!

Room Tip: All rooms are good - to avoid the weekend music from the clubs choose a Garden View Room
