When we stayed at this hotel, they were building another hotel in the grounds and the noise of diggers, dirt and dust were so terrible, they agreed that we would get refunded for some of our stay via Virgin Holidays, this never happened, despite us contacting Virgin on our return, still no refund two years later.
The works have obviously now finished and the hotel is left with a view of the new bigger hotel in the grounds.
The rooms in this hotel are very light and airy, if a little basic, they do have small en-suite bathrooms and on the ground floor have a nice balcony out to the garden, giving a real pavillion feel. Local little birds sit outside on the verandah and are very tame. The rooms are also air conditioned and have a fridge which is great , as you can store your own drinks, fruit etc in the room.
The views from the hotel are not good, at the front you have a view of the main road running through Rodney Bay Village and the back although it has a small garden, overlooks their towering sister hotel. The swimming pool is very small.
The staff are excellent,it's the real plus point of the place, extremely friendly and helpful and an early evening drink in the bar is a must, the barman will mix cocktails and happily chat away, the bar is small on the terrace but very relaxing with cushions scattered about.
Food-wise. Breakfast is toast, cereals and yoghurt in the bar, laid out buffet style from 6, it is great with lots of fresh fruit as well. You can order egg dishes at a hefty charge. The hotel does not offer lunch or dinner, but you can visit Rodney Bay where fast food , traditional Kreole cooking or smart restaurants are aplenty.
The hotel did throw a free Barbecue for the guests once a week and also a Carribean food night which you can buy tickets for, both were great.
The hotel is a 10-15 minute walk to the beach, where you can hire a sunbed in front of one of the smart hotels for a small charge. Beware the days the cruise ships are in town as the beaches get mobbed, with overloud cruisers. There are beach sellers, don't be intimidated, or let it put you off going to the beach, they are friendly locals, you can haggle them in to a realistic price for bead bracelets, coconut bird feeders etc, buy from them on the first day and then they'll leave you alone.
The hotel is a good base to go on some of the local tours, definitely go in to the rainforest and do some Island exploring, the dawn cruise that the hotel kindly arranged us is very romantic.
Avoid the Quad bike trip, it's a rip off!
If you want to explore St Lucia but aren't mega rich and don't like the Lock you in / everyone else out style Resort Hotels like Sandals, meet a few locals and experience the local bars and restaurants, don't mind not having a romantic view and a walk to the beach, then this hotel will be absolutely fine.
Overall, a small friendly family feel hotel on the edge of town, ideal if you're on a budget.
I would stay there again.
