Stayed at the SGL June 6-15. This was my first time at a sandals resort and it was great. A few tips from me:

1. Book a basic level room. We had the club level for our honeymoon and we are pretty self sufficient people so we never used the perks of the club level except for getting them to book our dinner reservations. Yeah it's nice to have alcohol in the room, but we were really never in the room to have drinks. There is a bar open almost 24/7 to get drinks so i didnt feel like the price of club level was worth it.

2. DO THE EXODUS ISLAND TOUR AND BOOK IT THROUGH THE VENDOR ON THE BEACH. It is less expensive from the vendors on the beach. This excursion was the highlight of our trip.

3. Go to the French restaurant (La Tac) at La Toc. That was the best dinner I have probably ever had. Get the duck. Be sure to book your restaurant reservations as soon as you get checked in.

Yes the ride to the airport sucks, but you will make it. Get the Pink Panther drink from the bar (not an advertised drink). Overall we had a great time and we have already booked a trip to another Sandals resort next year. If you have a bad time at this place then you need to reexamine your life.

Room Tip: Get the basic level room. Club level rooms are not worth it in my opinion

We had a fabulous 2 weeks here in March 2014. The weather was brilliant, the cocktails devine and the food delicious. The journey from the airport was long but interesting sight seeing helped pass the time. The night life is quiet apart from the Palladium where the staff put on shows - there the sound system is too loud and distorted. Sitting outside under the stars by the firepit with a glass of fizz was the best. Everyone dresses up in the evenings but it's swimwear and coverups for the day. Restaurants are good - make sure you book the italian at the Grande and the Japanese at La Toc. We found everyone gets up early - on the beach or by the pool by 8.30! The sun sets very early by 6pm so you eat early too. The last bookings in the restaurants are about 9.00pm but there won't be many people in there as they are all outside round the fire pits or in hammocks with a bottle of champage. The day is completely different to a european holiday - no sitting with a cocktail as the sunsets about 8.30pm! We have booked Sandals Barbados for next year - hope it lives up to St Lucia - cant wait! PS no mosquitos either. Any questions please email me

My husband and I came here on our honeymoon in early June. We absolutely loved it!! The resort is BEAUTIFUL. There are so many quiet and romantic places to relax at night on the resort and near the beach. We especially enjoyed the hammocks and fire pits. The beach was pretty, the pool was awesome. Our room was clean and modern. The service on the resort was exceptional. We really did not have any complaints.
We debated between the three Sandals resorts in St. Lucia and we were happy with our choice with the Grande. We felt it was the most modern and had the most to do out of the three. Not to mention it definitely had the best beach area. The only downfall is it is the furthest from everything so the tours can be a bit of a drive but definitely worth it.
Our favorite restaurant was Bayside (no reservations needed). We felt they had the best food, service, and atmosphere. It looks out onto the pool deck and a lot of times they have live music out there so we really enjoyed it there. The meals were delicious...we thought there food was the best for dinner!
We also really enjoyed the pizza and crepe place. Very laid back. Best place to go grab lunch after beach and pool. Pizza is delicious. We went there for lunch almost every day.
You must do the Joe Knows Tour (book it through him to get the actual Joe Knows tour). It was beyond amazing. So so much fun. Our favorite thing of the whole trip!! The guys are amazing. Such good guys and so much fun!! Look up the reviews on it. If you like to have a good time and want to see and do some of the best of the island. Book it!! You won't regret it.
They even picked us up and took us to the street party on Friday night which was a really neat experience.
We also did zip lining. It was our first time. Quite a drive there but we had a lot of fun and the your guide keeps you entertained so the drive isn't too bad.
Pigeon Island is walking distance from the grande. Just walk down the beach and you will run into it. It's only 7 dollars a person and you can hike the two small mountains there. A little bit of a workout. Great views at the top.
Sunset cruise: We did the sunset cruise and really enjoyed it. Very romantic and a beautiful sunset for some great pictures!!!

We booked the club level (right below butler level) it was nice to have a full bar in our room. We had 4 full bottles of liquor and two bottles of wine sitting on our counter. Along with a mini fridge with beer, juices, water, etc. That was awesome. Although we really didn't use the liquor bottles too much as you can get drinks whenever at the bars and we weren't in our room too much.
We also got to use the club level lounge but we didn't use that too often either as I booked most things ahead of time.
So it's depends on you if it's worth the money for the upgrade or not.

Tips: The drive from airport is very long (hour and a half) If you've had a really long travel already and are ready to just get there I would recommend the helicopter if you can afford it. Some people we met did it and were so glad they did. We did the regular shuttle and it was fine just long.
Bring snacks. If you stay up late bring snacks with you as most places close by 10 for serving food. One place stayed open late (the Irish pub) but we regretted not having snacks for when we got hungry late at night.

Overall, we has a great experience at Sandals Grande!! We already want to book our next vacation with Sandals. The resort is beautiful and they do a really great job. It is so nice not to have to worry about anything. :)

My husband and I went to St. Lucia on our honeymoon and this trip was incredible! With the help of Beach Bum Vacations (http://www.beachbumvacation.com/) and our amazing trip advisor: Steve Curnow, the trip was a breeze to plan and everything went so smoothly from the moment of planning to the end of the trip. Steve went above and beyond his duties as a travel agent! He was so kind and fun to work with, I would definitely plan our next trip through their company again. The St. Lucian is an adult playground, with a ton to do. We spent half of our trip laying on the fantastic beach sipping our drinks, and the other half on tours that were really well done. I can't say enough positive things about our trip and the help we had from Beach Bum Vacations & Steve!! Highly recommended. Not to mention that Beach Bums does not cost anything...who can beat that?!

Grande St. Lucian is a fantastic place to go. We had such a great time there. As others may have pointed out, it does take you some time to get from the airport to the resort and back (about an hour and a half one way). In knowing this, we decided to rent a private car to take us to the resort. We are so happy we did and we HIGHLY recommend it. Our driver was fantastic. It was like having our own private tour since he was telling us all about the island while driving. He even stopped at key places for us to get out and view the wonderful place. Even though the private transfer is not directly associated with Sandals, it seems that Sandals "uses" a very reputable company. How can you can you go wrong when even before the driver put the car in reverse to leave the airport, he reached in a cooler in the front seat, handed us two beers and said "welcome to St. Lucia" with a smile!!! We did chat with a few people during the week who took the standard shuttle bus and they told us that it was a bit rough and nauseating.

We also opted to have the go for the Club Level. RECOMMEND IT HIGHLY! The perks you have at this level is well worth it: Club level check in-check out, access to the Club Level area (with great views, seats and full bar) 24-hours a day, full bar in room, events for club level members only every day, concierge service, etc. etc.

I would also recommend asking for a room at the top most level along with facing the Atlantic side (away from the pools). Even though the pool side has the view(s) off the bay and the Caribbean sea, you are closer to the water on the Atlantic side with great views and can hear the ocean hitting the rocks to put you to sleep. We left the balcony doors open every night to hear the waves. It was so wonderful.

We really only had one issue with the room (minor one at that). The bathroom was recently renovated (which looked wonderful), but the design of the shower glass was causing water to build up on the floor when taking a shower. The standing glass did not go all the way to the bottom of the shower and was not caulked (sealed). Water would run down the glass and onto the bathroom floor. Nothing a bathroom towel on the floor prior to getting in the shower didn't fix! ;o)

Food for the most part was pretty good. We never had a bad meal, but from time to time you could tell that they were cooking for mass numbers of people. The only time you got that great restaurant meal is at the the places that require reservations. One thing to keep in mind that you cannot get food 24-hours a day. There are a few hours in the morning that you will have to wait, but that was no issue for us.

They had plenty of bars to go to with great bar tenders. Everyone we met was very friendly. Every bar had a menu of the types of drinks they recommend, but I have a secret.....don't bother with the menu. Ask the bartender to make one of their "specialties". It seemed that each bartender had one of their own and every one was great. Get to know each of the main bartenders....you won't regret it.

One minor issue we had at some of the bars was when they started to get busy, they didn't always have time to empty out some of their dirty dishwater along with dirty glasses, so when it started to get very warm outside, a certain smell would start to linger a bit that was a little unpleasant.

Every employee we met were very friendly....from the head concierge to the person updating the paint on the wall. Each time we passed on of them, they verbally greeted us. In fact, every time we ran into the head concierge, he greeted us by name! We even became friends with a few employees that we still keep in contact with.

The weather every day was great. We did have a few minor showers for two of our days at the resort. These showers only lasted a few minutes and the clouds just moved out of the way.

You may have noticed that I did not rate the resort at "excellent" and that just because I am being a little picky with minor details. I wanted to do this for the possible people who are looking for a "not one single thing wrong with this place" attitude. Even though the resort looked great and it seemed that they were trying to keep up with grounds keeping and other slight maintenance, guests need to remember that this resort is in a hot climate in the middle of the salty sea/ocean which can reek havoc on material. Yes, there were minor imperfections on some walls, doors and other areas, but in no way did they deter from the enjoyment or beauty of the resort. I bring this up since we did hear some people talk negatively on these issues which we thought were kinda' petty. If you take things in stride, relax and enjoy what the resort has to offer, you will have a fantastic time. So, yes....we would recommend the resort and would stay there again. Just remember to get the Club Level and the private transfer to and from the airport. :o)

Room Tip: Recommend rooms on the top floor of the Caribbean Village facing the Atlantic side (opposite the poo...

I had stayed at the Sandals resort in Ocho Rios, Jamaica before so I was pretty keen on what to expect. Once again, Sandals did NOT disappoint! My new bride and I had a wonderful time filled with sun and fun as well as dancing and music....not to mention the great food and even more helpful and courteous staffers!!

The Playmakers on the resort made everything fun and kept the party going almost 24/7!!

i went for my 50th in march, had brilliant time although we had to put up with constant hammering and banging whilst they updated a lot of the rooms, our tour operator hadn't been informed of this, the 90 minute transfer wasn't pleasant after such a long flight, when you arrive don't let the guys there take your bags for the full 100 yards outside they will expect a big tip.
the hotel itself was typical sandals, clean plenty of food staff excellent, entertainment still poor although a little more entertainment than other sandal resort I visited. you can walk to pidgeon island just at the end of the road, a former defence fort, if you are able do try and work to the very top and far end not for disabled a steep hike at times all rough terrain, however the views of Martinque are breath taking, take a drink heat hits you like a ton of bricks.
not a lot to you cant walk very far, taxi to the local catholic church cost about 12 dollar one way.if you do go to the church be prepared to be there for a very long mass!!!
Castries market is worth a trip but nothing much to buy, there is a catholic church there too, worth a visit. one happy island, however if you go you need to go for two weeks a week wouldn't be long enough you would be travelling for majority of the week getting there and home. the red spa women are a nightmare, they are constantly trying to enrol you for massage and treatments, if you go one way and they see you they find a way to get you they spoilt some of our holiday

Room Tip: all rooms are excellent standard
