My cousin (who lives in England) and I stayed at the Bay Gardens Hotel from January 21 to February 1. We booked directly with the hotel. At first, I was going to travel solo so I had simply booked a standard room. When my cousin decided to join me I asked to be upgraded to a superior room with two queen beds. Well, something went wrong and on check-in we got a standard room with a king bed. After some time to sort this little matter out we did get what I had asked for and the hotel was good enough to waive the additional charges due to the mix-up and inconvenience so we did not have to pay for the upgrade. I was very impressed.
The place is spotless. All staff wore name tags and I did not hesitate to call them by name. They appreciated it and were most friendly. Hats off to Tekla and Melissa who were exceptional in the dining room and to Deborah, our maid, who stocked us with additional towels and coffee for our coffee maker without us even having to ask. There was no smoking allowed even at the bar, which really impressed us. Internet access is free. There is a taxi service right in the hotel if you need it. There is a shuttle to their sister property, the Bay Gardens Beach Resort, but we did not use it as we preferred to walk. We had the use of all the facilities at the Resort. There are many fantastic restaurants within walking distance, which I shall review. The public bus stops right outside the door - no need to take a taxi to the Castries market as it is the end of the line for the bus. Fare is only EC$2.25 each way so it beats US$20 for a taxi.
If you are looking for a departure from the all-inclusives and you really want to experience the town and its people I can think of no better place than this. The only reason I did not rate it a 5 is because I simply cannot rate it the same as a high end property. However, if Trip Advisor had a spot for a 4 1/2 star rating I would have given it.
