“Simple, Excellent, & Relaxing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 9, 2013

We spent our honeymoon at the East Winds Inn less than a week ago. The experience was everything we hope for and more. We have traveled to several islands in the Caribbean and St. Lucia is top 2 for sure. We have traveled to Hawaii, Mexico, the Carribbean and this ranks in the top 2 easily. This isn't your big hotel with 300 other guests who you will never talk to and find more annoying than anything. Your experience is met with friendly, attentive staff with welcoming guests as well. We made friends with our fellow visitors and staff.

We stayed in one of the Ocean view rooms and it is ideally located with feet from the beach and dining. The room isn't the largest room we ever stayed in but is the right size for everything we needed and would highly recommend it.

The food was absolutely excellent and we didn't want to leave it. Dinner is excellent and rivals any first class restaurant you will attend in Gros Islet.

I'll keep this review simple, we would definately return in the future. In the dozen or so trips we have taken this is only the second place we said we would ever return to. Stop reading reviews and book the hotel already.

THANKS FOR THE SIMPLE, ELEGANT AND RELAXING REVIEW

Stating that your honeymoon experience at East Winds was everything you had hoped for and more, is quite a testament to the time you spent with us – thank you for your enthusiastic endorsement. It seems you were pleased with the friendly and attentive staff, as well as the other guests in attendance at the Inn.

The absolutely excellent food is a result of the efforts of over 15 in kitchen staff, who specialize in everything from fish, vegetables, grilled and seared meats, fresh breads and pastries, true French reduction sauces, soups and decadent desserts, as well as daily vegetarian specials – just to name a few. The service is also very personal and efficient as you likely noticed, making, as you say, a first class dining experience.

So as you aptly put it…”Stop reading reviews and book the hotel already” – and your commitment to come back gives your positive review that extra bit of true meaning. Thank you ever so much, and we wish you a happy and long life together. Hoping to see you again soon.

After many trips to paradise islands in the sun,we can honestly say,we've found the genuine article,at East Winds Inn. The staff, the management, are all extremely friendly and makes one feel genuinely welcome, indeed there is a strong family atmosphere, and everyone from top management to the gardeners seem to love their work, and this is reflected in their attitude to the customers. Our cottage style accommodation was first rate, with high quality bedding, furniture, etc., and was always cleaned to the highest standard. We can't speak highly enough about the food as it was always worthy of the finest restaurants. In closing if you wish a relaxing peaceful holiday, and are maybe wishing for an antidote to Sandals then look no further, we shall return.

Room Tip: Go for superior cottages in the garden.

400TH FIVE STAR REVIEW EXCEEDS ALL EXPECTATIONS – THANK YOU

To be referred to as the genuine article within the context of paradise islands in the sun, is truly a worthy compliment. Thank you wholeheartedly for your lovely review, which also represents our 400th five star posting! It is through this type of highly positive customer feedback, that would be guests like those currently reading this management response, gain the confidence to come and experience East Winds Inn for themselves. Statistically, through reliable reviews such as yours, East Winds Inn currently enjoys a full 88% five star postings – a very rare achievement for a full service resort.

We are extremely pleased that you found the dedicated staff so friendly and accommodating while genuinely enjoying their work. The accommodation has been fully upgraded with new furniture and appointments as you indicate, and our cleaning staff have earned their five star rating through careful attention to detail. Thank you also for noticing the high quality of food – that is one of the main elements of the East Winds experience.

Stating you will return is very rewarding, as you will be joining many other first time visitors to East Winds who become fondly known as “repeaters” – a word that many hotels only hope to be able to use. At East Winds, that is a standard – over half our guests come back on a regular basis to re-experience paradise as you just did. We look forward to welcoming you back with real smiles and warm hearts.

The East Winds Inn experience is truly unlike any other we have had the pleasure to encounter and it’s an incredibly addictive one!
We wait with excitement all year to return to our “second home” with such high expectations that are always completely surpassed.
Upon arrival, this our fourth stay, we were warmly greeted by Charms with a welcome cold towel and a glass of champagne!
We always request the same Superior Room which is wonderful and perfect for us being two adults and a fifteen year old. The rooms are all incredible and nestled amongst the exquisite gardens. They are furnished luxuriously and have ample storage. There is also a fully stocked fridge to include any soft drink or beer requirement you so wish. You are close enough to the beach and all amenities but far enough away to achieve complete privacy.
This year there are noticeably more Hummingbirds and they add to the complete beauty of the gardens which make you feel you are living in Paradise. St Lucia is an amazingly beautiful island and every essence of this splendour is encapsulated within the gardens of East Winds Inn. On every walk another flower; bird or crab is spotted and appreciated.
The pool is a perfect size and is really appealing with a self service swim up bar and this is also the area that Afternoon Tea is served. The beach area and sea are picturesque and the sunsets are stunning.
The restaurant is our most favourite restaurant in the world! The Head Chef, Tomislav Čukman is extremely talented and we are so appreciative of every varying and delicious mouthful of exquisite cuisine that was served to us throughout our stay from Tomislav and his team. The restaurant has a perfect ambience that changes to reflect the time of the day and the occasion it merits. The dinners are five courses of bliss accompanied by perfect wines and flawless, superb service.
Paula makes the most delectable breakfasts and the buffet or BBQ lunches are always scrumptious!
The entertainment is low key and rightly so; the musicians who we are fortunate enough to be entertained by are vastly talented. Saturday lunch times are not to be missed when the steel pan band perform while we dance on the beach; enjoy a drink and indulge in lunch to the wonderful sounds of the Caribbean!
The drink choices are immeasurable and all lovingly prepared and having pre dinner champagne and post dinner cocktails in the wonderful Bamboo Lounge is a delight. The delicious cocktails are all made superbly well by the consummate professionals with such magnificent attentiveness.
We always make new friends with like minded people and have such a laugh; we never stop smiling the whole holiday! My son also adores the East Winds experience and we feel so delighted that this is the holiday destination he has encountered during his formative years, and hopefully for many more years to come!
My last comment will be my most important as without the personnel East Winds Inn possess it would not have a heart. The Manager, Mr Gareth Leach runs a very tight ship and everything is run as smoothly and unobtrusively as possible to ensure we have the best possible provisions and service.
Hanna is an amazing asset and loved very much by us. Windel is a smiling superstar! We truly appreciate everything Kerwin, Haige, Mavis and Elie do for us. Glenda deals with our booking perfectly too! Titus was on vacation this time and we missed him greatly.
The holiday would be half the holiday it is without these wonderful and special people that we think so much of and to be welcomed so warmly by. All the incredible staff behind the scenes perform their duties expertly to ensure the smooth running of this well oiled machine with its exceptional standards.
Again, we wait with great anticipation for the next visit to our Paradise (it was booked before this visit!) being rest assured that it will once more be truly fabulous!

THANKS FOR THE FIRST CLASS AND FABULOUS REVIEW

As a fourth time visitor to East Winds Inn, indulging in your favourite addiction of relaxation and good food and beverages, it is so fulfilling for all of us to read that your holiday expectations are still being surpassed. What is so impressive, is that these accolades come from a Senior Contributor on this board, with 28 reviews and 50 helpful votes. Thank you for taking time to author such a detailed report of your most recent holiday in paradise.

You obviously have a great rapport with so many of the staff – you are correct that they are what makes East Winds Inn so special. It is clear you also love the sea side dining room, and our head chef Tomislav has really embraced the local ingredients and mixed them with a traditional French style to make some truly exquisite dishes. Mention of so many staff individually is very meaningful for them, as is recognition of our GM, Gareth Leach, who has orchestrated a very well-tuned group of committed St. Lucians for over 21 years at the hotel.

We are so pleased to hear that you have already booked your fifth visit prior to your departure – what more could we possibly ask for than that? Thank you for your ongoing support and commitment to “the Small Resort with a Big Heart” – East Winds Inn. We look forward to welcoming you again for another fabulous stay.

What I loved most about this hotel was that it knows exactly what it wants to be and doesn't allow current hotel trends to influence it; because of this, it perfectly achieves its tag-line of "timeless seaside elegance". Everything is top quality, from the furnishings to the service, food, and surroundings; it's luxury in the quietest, most understated way, so that you can totally relax and feel that you are experiencing the best that St Lucia can offer. The staff are a brilliant, friendly, happy team who make sure that everything is as you want, and here the all-inclusive package is taken to a whole new level: top brand drinks, champagne, superb cocktails, excellent wines offered at dinner (none of your "house wine" nonsense!), and menus which would compete with top London restaurants. Because there are only 30 rooms, it's beautifully quiet and the beach has plenty of room so no need to reserve sunbeds - sometimes we were the only couple on the beach or in the sea (which is calm and warm, incidentally), and felt very at peace as the beach bar doesn't play music during the day. Beaches are public in St Lucia, so locals like to come and party at weekends, but they access the waterline from a side road and never come up to the sunbeds and the hotel. The pool set in the gardens is small but deliciously warm and again very quiet, with plenty of sunbeds, and tables for afternoon tea - here, the swim-up bar is help-yourself: same top brands, with everything you need to make your own cocktails. The other two bars and the restaurant, all near the beach, are luxurious and open-air (how do they keep the restaurant's Steinway piano in tune in this humidity?), and the evening entertainment is low-key music, usually with a Caribbean feel. We stayed in a spotless deluxe room, where the air conditioning was delicious, and where we had an amazing amount of storage space, and a really huge and comfy bed. The bathroom was beautifully appointed with a fantastic step-down shower; it's semi-open-air affair (which I know is very popular but personally I find the humidity a bit much). The front patio with its outdoor kitchenette overlooking the gardens was a delight: being on "English time" and waking early, we spent an hour sitting with a cuppa enjoying watching the humming birds before breakfast and then wandering through the amazing gardens looking at the wonderful trees and shrubs (all itemized in a booklet in the room). As for breakfast - oh, Paula, I miss eggs cooked the way you do them! Note to management: could Paula please have frying pans with insulated handles: I'm afraid she'll burn her hands!

All in all, this is a perfect place if like me you value peace and quiet. Welcoming, unpretentious, no bling, no noise, no burgers or hot dogs (go to Sandals if you want all that!), but pure, civilised, simple luxury. Thank you so much, Gareth and team, for doing such a great job!

Room Tip: All rooms are good; we selected the deluxe because it's big and well air-conditioned, and the pa...

THANKS FOR THE UNIQUE AND PERFECT REVIEW – TOUGH TO BE QUIET ABOUT!

In this fast paced world of light speed apps and digital thumping, how many places have you heard about that “know exactly what they want to be” and wholeheartedly live up to their tag-line “timeless seaside elegance”. Thank you ever so much for identifying East Winds Inn as one of those rare hotels that has spent so much time and energy doing exactly the opposite of succumbing to modern hotel trends. Sure, we have free WiFi, our own version of an exterior gymnasium in our Swedish fitness track, free yoga and Pilates lessons in an exercise pavilion that most people can only dream of, free hobby cats and sailing lessons - but what all our team also have is soul – and plenty of it too. You have so accurately identified the difference between an also-ran and a “passionate” hotel – the latter really cares about you and makes you truly live the experience.

I recently heard my 85 year old mother refer to her favourite swimming spot as “delicious” – how appropriate I thought at the time. So you too have discovered a delicious swimming pool at East Winds Inn – we are so happy about that. Stating that everything is top quality, the staff are a brilliant and happy team, menus competing with top London restaurants and so many other accolades, one has to read your review many times over to catch all the nuances in your well written comments. We’ll look into the pans with insulated handles for Paula, although most professional chefs will tell you that there is really no such thing.

And what a conclusion – a perfect place if you value peace and quiet – followed by at least nine other positive superlatives, ending with simple luxury. You have clearly discovered East Winds and what it is all about, now all you need to do is come back. Thank you for such an enthusiastic and genuine posting.

We spent our anniversary at East Winds just about a year ago. The entire experience was incredible, from our cozy cottage to spending tea time at the pool, to finishing the night with a four course dinner and cocktails. We made some great friends while we were there, and hope to be able to come back and spend time with them again. What made the experience so fantastic was the staff. They generally cared about our experience. We took garden tours, did rum tasting, and in general spent time chatting with all of the staff, from Titus and Le'Ron to Miriam and everyone else. Thank you.
P.S. For my anniversary on Oct 6th I am planning a "East Winds Inn" Themed dinner at home. Any suggestions? I already have a bottle of Fresita Sparkling ready to go!

Room Tip: Go with the Garden Cottages!

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY – PLEASE DON’T CRY – JUST COME BACK!

Thank you for your honest review and sharing the fact that you cried when you had to leave East Winds Inn after celebrating your anniversary with us. Believe it or not, this is quite a common occurrence, and this is why the front desk ladies carry extra Kleenex for our guests upon departure, as they say goodbye to all their new friends and the caring staff. How exciting to think that when you read this response, you will likely have celebrated your Anniversary on October 06th with your very own East Winds themed dinner at home!

We appreciate this glowing posting, the mention of many highlights and staff who you enjoyed during your stay. We look forward to welcoming you back for another Anniversary celebration very soon at "the Small Resort with a Big Heart" - East Winds Inn.

This was our first trip to East Winds Inn but probably not the last! This rates as one of the best if not THE best hotel we have stayed in over the years. Firstly, the staff - they have been so well trained by the long standing general manager, Gareth Leach.Nothing is too much trouble and always with a genuine smile on their faces. The food is outstanding with food that would grace many a Michelin restaurant.
It is everything everyone else has said and some!

Room Tip: All rooms are superb - we had the Deluxe room which was excellent.

THANKS VERY MUCH FOR THE AWESOME REVIEW

Ending your review by stating that East Winds is everything everyone else has said and some, is a great starting point for this response – thank you for that compliment. Suggesting that this is one of the best, if not THE best hotel you have stayed at over the years really puts your posting in perspective – most likely on account of the excellent staff as you mention, with guidance by our well esteemed GM, Gareth Leach, who has held this post for 21 years. We are pleased you also enjoyed the cuisine, which you rated as outstanding.

We would like to end our response with your beginning – this was your first trip to East Winds Inn, but probably not the last! Thank you again for your kind remarks as well as all of your lovely photos. We do hope to see you sooner than later.

We have just returned from our second visit to East Winds and once again it was a magical holiday. We had the same room as previously and as we walked in it was as though we had never been away. In fact the whole visit felt like that. Once again the staff made East Winds what it is. The food was excellent at all meals (my husband had been looking forward to returning to Paula's breakfast omelettes since he left last time!) We spent most of our days on the beach relaxing and swimming though we did splash out and take the helicopter tour of the Island which I cannot recommend highly enough -take this trip if you can. Then what can be better than finishing the day having a drink with new friends in the Bamboo Lounge.
We hope to return very soon.

MANY THANKS FOR YOUR REPEAT VISIT AND REVIEW

Stating that this was your second visit to East Winds Inn and it was as magical as the first, is a great compliment to all of the team at the resort, and we thank you for that. We are pleased that you found everything consistent and just as you had remembered it – especially the staff who, as you say, make East Winds what it is.

The favourable comments about the cuisine, relaxing on the beach and meeting both old and new friends are greatly appreciated. It is nice to see someone else as crazy about Paula’s omelets as we are. Saying you hope to return very soon is everything we could ask for, as now, you have clearly joined the ranks as an East Winds “repeater”. Thank you for your ongoing support – you are among a rapidly growing group of discerning travelers who seem to have found paradise.
