“Beautiful Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 9, 2011

My husband Brian and I have just returned from a wonderful stay at this beautiful Hotel. From the minute you arrive you are treated as special guests. The lovely welcoming staff at the reception area get your holiday off to a great start. For first time visitors to this Hotel one can only stand in awe at the the sweeping staircase and high open airiness of the roof structure which is so colonial -like. The airconditioned rooms are actually very spacious suites and the Hotel have just started on a room refurbishment programme. Each room has a lovely view over the beautifully manicured gardens with the Reduit beach and Pigeon Island beyond. The Hotel is very well situated on the lovely sweeping Reduit Beach which you can access directly from the gardens. A large pool complete with swim up bar completes the lovely outdoor facilities. Dining options are either in the spacious Epicure restaurant or for that special meal book into the intimate Chic restaurant which offers exquisitely prepared food and very attentive service. The Royal Spa has a great variety of lovely body treatment options and a special treat is a wonderful beach massage. This is a truly first class Hotel and one that will give you special memories of your holiday in St Lucia. The staff are the Hotel's secret to success. They go out of their way to make your holiday so special and memorable. Go on, give it a try, you will not be disappointed.

Overall we enjoyed our stay and loved the Rodney Bay area and some great restaurants such as Big Chef Steakhouse, Buzz, Memories of Hong Kong to new a few. Also great ice cream store. Just ask the locals...

Room Tip: All the room were suites, very clean, but in some need of updating.

Originally we had booked another hotel for a 10 day stay at Castries, St. Lucia. "WARNING", all beaches on the island are legally "open to public access". This allowed this first hotel to advertise "Steps from the beach", which ended up to be over 400 steps across a road and through adjoining commercial property! We walked into the provided streetfront room, with a shattered door handle and lock, unclean floors, and soiled bedspread! We didn't bother to look at the sheets, and we didn't bother to stay. There we were on the street canvasing other beachfront hotels, several which saw our predicament and said they only had their most expensive suites available. We then walked to the Royal, St. Lucia, by Rex Resorts, which looked even more expensive than those previously visited. The desk manager was Mr. Lestroy Hallpike, what a valuable asset he is for his resort hotel and was for us! As he listened to our tale of woe, he would not "bad mouth" any of the adjoining competitors or the original hotel, but gave us an outstanding room at a very fair price. Our 10 day vacation was saved! The Royal staff was helpful in all aspects, and Mr. Hallpike gave us great advice on everything from car rental to restaurants, diving, and shopping choices throughout our stay.

My wife and I stayed at the Rex Royal for our Honeymoon. We had planned for 3 days here of relaxing at the beach and then to spend the last 5 days in seclusion at La Haut (middle of the rainforest rather than directly on the beach). Well, we left for La Haut, and immediately upon getting there we knew we had to go back to the Royal. We wanted our air conditioned room, proximity to the beach, proximity to the shopping, restaurants, casino, etc., and other amenities that the Rex Royal offered. So we came back! The staff was happy to see us, although I don't think too surprised! Everyone remembered our names and the staff was really accomodating. We ate at Chic (very fancy, and amazing service), enjoyed the swim-up bar, went parasailing, and did a host of other things we would have missed had we stay at La Haut. I would recommend this hotel in a heartbeat. It was a good price for a very nice resort with all the amenities. Even the nicer resorts we looked at weren't anywhere near all the action in Rodney Bay. Rodney Bay is where it's at if you want fun and entertainment! And it's the best beach on the island by far. If we go back, this is where we'll be staying, even if we can afford "better".

Room Tip: 3rd floor is best!

This was our second visit to the Royal Rex. We were here about 4 years ago and enjoyed the beach and especially enjoyed their SAUNA/STEAM, cold plunge with relaxation area. It was basically for this reason that we returned here. However this was low season (June) and when we arrived they informed us that the SAUNA/STEAM area was under "renovation"....(which it was not, as we walked by a few times during our stay and never heard or saw anything of the kind....they were just cutting back expenses in low season obviously) STRANGE being that I specifically stated in my email to the Royal REX when I made the reservation that THIS was why we enjoyed their hotel and why were returning, And I Specifically inquired if everything were OK with the sauna etc. as things do "happen"...But NO,,,,,,no response regarding this area of their hotel. Kind of a letdown and bad form regarding their attitude towards their clients. Enough said, we even tried to book The Grand Sandals and leave but they were booked. SInce it was low season I presume they needed the business and therefore no real communication. The rooms are a bit dated but, the AC is good and the place is clean. The Plaza or RItz it is not, its a room with a nice beach right in front ....Reduit Beach. Now onto the BEACH, which yes... is one of the finest on the island........and the public knows all about it. Fine.....I realize that all beaches on all islands are for the most part public. HOWEVER, the so-called "Security Guard(s)" on our beach did not do a thing to inform the the local folks that they are NOT to use the lounge chairs or umbrellas......these are for the guests of the hotel. The beach was crowded at various times during our stay, not by guests of The Royal Rex but by the local folk.....drinking beer till sunset and beyond, throwing bottles into the sea. Security?.. they didn't do a thing. We came back from a boat excursion to the Pitons one day at about 5:30PM and wanted to go to the beach....there were about 40 "locals" partying, lounging on chairs, under the so-called "assigned for guests only" umbrellas......needless to say we did not use the beach that evening....as WE were left feeling like the NON-GUEST and the visitor in a hotel we were paying for. LOOK......the management should keep the locals to the left side of the beachfront area....period. A paying customer is just that...you are paying for a little privacy and quiet.... Needless to say we will not be returning to the Royal REX........good luck with the beach if you decide to go........and if you're a sauna/steam enthusiast as we are....better ask before you book .....with a phone call. They try hard........but they should try harder. We never ate at their restaurants as we never saw anyone in them, albeit for one or two couples at breakfast.....your choice.

I have been staying at the Royal annually since 1998. Located directly on fabulous Reduit Beach, it is among the very few most relaxing places at which I've ever stayed. The marvelous staff make me feel as though I'm returning home with each visit. The neighborhood is pleasant and terrific restaurants abound, although you don't want to miss dining at the Royal itself, particularly at Chic, for a truly memorable dining experience. If you're going to the Caribbean, don't miss St. Lucia, and by all means don't miss the Royal.

This was a really nice experience, the staff was friendly and efficient, our suite was perfect, overlooking the sea. Food in the restaurants was excellent, especially in the Chic restaurant - we have almost never ever had such good food. Perfect service, as well (thank you). Don´t miss out on the St Lucian breakfast, it still lingers on our palates, as do the pancakes...
