“Grand Scale Hotel”

Almond Morgan Bay Beach Resort

The Almond Morgan Bay is vast! Maybe this was particularly apparent to us having just come from a much smaller hotel. The staff on arrival were very friendly and welcoming. We and our luggage were transferred to our room via Moke. Too far to walk with luggage! The standard rooms are very nice, better than I expected, we were very impressed. The rooms are all set out in blocks, all differently coloured, but loosely centred around two large pools (there is another one for kiddies further out), one of which is adults only pool with swim up bar. However, I noticed some children occasionally in that pool and they were not asked to move which I found rather annoying! The beach is lovely and the watersports centre is excellent. We tried Kayak, Hobie Cat, Water Skiing, Banana Boat - all included and great fun! There are four restaurants and they were all lovely, although the staff in Palms were not particularly friendly (don't know why) so we tended to avoid that one. The food was very good - no complaints there. One disappointment, however, was the drink. Not much in the way of cocktails, no cocktail list so you had to make it up as you went along so to speak. They will mix anything you want, but you have to know what you want! Also, as wine lovers we were hoping for some good wine. The red was ok, but the white was horrible. There was only one of each so it was "like it or lump it and pay for something else" (which was very expensive). In a hot climate we tended to prefer white so this was a big disappointment for us. I would thoroughly recommend Joys Cruise - booked from the beach. Takes you down to the Pitons, volcano, botanical gardens, waterfall - plus BBQ lunch on the beach near the pitons, snorkelling between the pitons. All in all a great day out. US$75. good value. One word of warning - no loo on the boat! Joy is a strapping 6 footer male, his brother Michael pitches in to help too and his mum does the BBQ - a real family affair. It's well run and well organised and a "must do". All restaurants have to be booked in advance for dinner and this is done at reception. Its all highly organised, and you don't have worry about booking a restaurant on the day of your arrival as they do that for you. The Morgan Pier restaurant is lovely - with the sea lapping round (although my husband spent a night feeling most unwell after eating a seafood cocktail there!). Bamboo is good and we tended to go there for lunch. Le Jardinnaire is smarter and indoors (air conditioned). There is a piano bar there later which is open until 3.00am. All in all this is a nice hotel and well run. Good for couples and families alike. As I mentioned, big kiddies area away from the main part, where there is also a snack restaurant/bar, together with fitness centre, tennis courts, table tennis, gym etc. Only one complaint - better wine please!

“Great Holiday, Great Hotel but frustrated!”

We have just returned from a weeks break at the Almond Morgan Bay. I have to say we had a fantastic holiday and as we spent 80% of the time in the hotel, it has to take most of the credit.

We were worried about the building work prior to the holiday but I have to be honest we hardly noticed it going on. It is at a very early stage and I dont know what it will be like as the work develops but didnt affect our enjoyment of the holdiay.

First the positives, which do outweigh the negatives. The hotel grounds I think are spectacular, the gardens were kept very neat and tidy and were a pleasure to walk in. The four restaurants were great my favourite was Morgans Pier, a great location for dinner, good food and always good service. Breafast was buffet style and plentyfull. Lunch was from a menu and available at two of the restuarants plus there was a beach BBQ. Aftermnoon tea is served at 15:30 in the Palms (sandwhiches, cookies etc). Bars were good with plenty of premium brands including Heinekin Lager, Smirnoff, Johnnie Walker, Jim Beam plus good llocal brands; I actually preferred the local lager (piton). The watersports on offer was good including waterskiing, sailing, banana boat rides, pedal boats, kayaks etc. The staff at the watersports centre were always happy to help and very patient when giving lessons!!! Lastly the hotel I found had a lovely relaxed atmosphere which formed the basis for a relaxing holiday. The beach was small and the water warm, not clear but that is due to the sandy bay location. There was a big hammock between two palm trees but we could never get a stint in the hammock as there was always a old (fellow) welsh bloke in there!!!!!!!

However the negatives left me very frustrated as this hotel has got the potential to be an excellent resort hotel. i felt that the restaurants and bars were understaffed. It took an age sometimes to get a drink at the swim up bar and there was often jjust 1bar person serving at each of the bars. Most people were drinking the lovely refreshing cocktails but these took some time tto prepare in the blender. I know it is a holiday and the locals are laid back so what is the rush?? But I do expect a high level of service in a four star hotel. This was also true of the restaurants on some occasions (not all the time). The service at the restuarants were on the whole very good but it was very inconsistent. Some members of staff couldnt do enough for you, would ask you how the days is going, how your holiday is going etc. Some however could barely manage a smile and on one occasions our server spoke only one sentance through the whole 3 coarses. Tipping is not encouraged by the hotel. The hotel does need to establish either a tipping policy or a recognition system so that the staff have more of an incentive to provide a consistent high level of service by all staff. If they could sort these minor issues out this would be a first class hotel.

Overall though a great holiday, St Lucia is a lush green island, the people are friendly and I would recommend trying to get out of the hotel to meet the people. Would I stay at the Morgan again, definately.

“Superb Holiday!”

Almond Morgan Bay Beach Resort

My husband and I have just returned from ten days at the AMB, and have to say it was one of the best holidays we have had, and we have been on quite a few! The hotel was everything that we imagined, the staff immensely polite and helpful, food and drink in plentiful supply, and of the highest quality, if you asked for premium brands you got them, the resturants were lovely especially Morgans Pier the fish resturant. The grounds were well maintained, the two main pools well situtated, the swim up bar great fun. The room was clean, pleasant and bright. Weather fantastic apart from the off rain storm, but hey you are in the West Indies! With regards to the building work, we hardly noticed it, and it did not affect our enjoyment at all. We met some great people from Wales, England and Canada so Hi to all of you (the only exception a few yanks who spoiled out last couple of days a little complaining all the time). So overall we had a fantastic time and would definitely go back, and in fact we intend to go to Barbados soon and will stay at one of the Almond hotels there.

“A Slice of Paradise”

My husband and I visited Almond Morgan the week of November 6th 2006. Newleyweds on our Honeymoon! I will admit the ride from the airport was fairly long but the trip was worth it. Once we arrived we were greeted at the entrance by the staff who were overwhelmed by all the guests checking in. They offered us a seat, gave us a cool wash cloth and rum punch..Just what we needed.

I researched trip advisor for months before picking this spot and I am so glad I did! What an awesome resort. We received an ocean view room on the 100 block and it was just perfect. I dont know what all the complaining was about the noise. There is some construction going on right above the hotel on a hill, but nothing to be bothered by. I was so excited to be there I never gave it a second thought! It really didnt disturb us at all. The staff is lovely .

The restaurants were great. You are required to make reservations for dinner. We made it easy on ourselves and made our reservations at the beginning of the week for a different restaurant each night. You can view the menus at the front office if you want to know what is in store! You have to dress casually but we looked forward to getting a little dolled up in the evening. Made for a more romantic night!

I highly recommend using Mimi to book your adventures. She went out of her way to help us and make sure we had an enjoyable time. To all the couples, the pirate ship sunset cruise is a must! What an awesome time! We met so many new people. The ship was beautiful and we were so excited that it was the ship used in the Pirates of the Carribbean! The Black Pearl. Mimi also arranged for us to get a private driver to take us on a tour of the island! SOOOOOO worth it! Tony was his name and he was great! It worked out great! I liked the idea that whenever we were ready to go or call it quits it was up to us. We were on our own time schedule.

The beach is small but pretty. I enjoyed the pool more. The swim up bar was our favorite. You must take advantage of the water sports. There was never a line and plenty of staff and equiptment.

There was always enough chairs and plenty of trees for those that dont enjoy too much fun.

Our room was awesome...you can adjust the temperature to your like and the bathroom was spacious!

I liked the idea on no clock radios! You're in paradise! Who cares what time it is! Relax.

It boggles my mind when I read some of these complaints! Come on now!!!! Why are people so uptight!!Relax..enjoy the island...stop worrying about the small stuff. I had an enjoyable time. We will definelty be back and we are bringing friends!!

I noticed people spending 2 weeks or more at the resort which may be the reason of some of the boredom! I thought 7 days was just perfect! Its called paradise for a reason...you stay to long and it may not seem like paradise after a while! LOL!

Go to Almond Morgan!! It was awesome!!!

“Ideal for families with teenagers”

Almond Morgan Bay Beach Resort

Nov 28, 2006

Stayed here for a couple of weeks in October. The staff were really friendly and very helpful. The four restaurants are very good with a nice selection on the menu which was good for an all-inclusive hotel. The water sports were free (though no jet ski) and the water skiing classes were great fun, and the more experienced skiers had a long run down to Windjammer and back. The new swim up bar was really good and the staff were always willing to suggest new drinks. Don't forget to try the local Piton beer. Lots to keep teenagers amused and there was a snack bar at the top of the hill that provided food for teenagers all day. Only drawback was that the sea wasn;'t very clear - not good for snorkelling - you need to take a boat ride to find suitable clear waters.

    • Liked — 4 lovely restaurants that you could reserve - no buffets!
    • Disliked — No clear swimming water
