“super for solo travellers”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2013

I have just got back from a brilliant 10 night holiday. The resort is superb if you are going on your own. The classes are excellent and all the staff are so friendly. The communal table enables you to meet up other people easily and I found that all guests staying at the the resort were incredibly friendly whether there on their own, as part of a couple or as part of a group.
The room, food and atmosphere could not have been faulted. I shall definitely be going back

We just returned from a 2 week stay and had a lovely relaxing holiday which is exactly what we needed. We did take part in a few of the fitness classes but even the beginners classes where a bit too tough if you had never tried them before (particularly the spin classes). We really enjoyed a great selection of food however all evening meals carry a supplementary offer for an upgraded meal with wine (which we declined as we felt this was far too expensive for what was on offer). The spa treatments were great but you were constantly 'recommended' upgraded treatments for extortionate prices. My husband was recommended a back therapy treatment to take as an upgrade from his inclusive treatment plus an additional US$95 which turned out to be just a more vigorous massage to the standard one and not worth the extra expense. We also both had supplementary beauty treatments which were very expensive and in our option not worth the money, so stick to the inclusive spa treatments would be our recommendation.
Our room was basic but clean (which is what we expected from reviews) - they only thing that was not what we expected was the damp smell - the whole of the corridor that we were on (first level) smelt this way and when you first opened the bedroom door the smell was overpowering! Most of the staff were wonderful but there were some that let the resort down in the Cariblue Restaurant and in the concierge office. We were invited to go onto the Friday night sunset cruise which is reserved for those who are repeat guests or those celebrating a special occasion - we had a lovely few hours on the boat and the party atmosphere was great with the 'bodyguards' getting everyone up dancing and having fun. This is definitely something that should be extended to all guests. The other thing that we found disappointing was that the only snorkelling trip was to the Pitons once a week at an additional cost, otherwise it was just snorkelling on the beach where there wasn't a great deal to see. On the whole we enjoyed the experience but did prefer the service that we received at Sandals on another carribean island which was considerably cheaper than this holiday where all inclusive meant 'all inclusive'.

Room Tip: We did hear from other travellers who had paid a premium for an upgraded room but ended up with one...

The room smelled moldy, there was no hot water, the water leaked from shower cubicle into the entire bathroom, there was only onelift (elevator) which was broken , and people had to go up by stairs (some rooms are on the 4th floor - 7th floor). There were at least 3 blackouts. The feable hair dryers in the bathroom kept on breaking.
The servicer at the main restaurant was extremely slow- we had to wait for 30 min to order, and 40 min between the first and 2nd course. The food was totally awful-they could not deliver the food for just 4 people at the same time, so we had to wait until others got the food, by that time the food got stone cold. if you order coffee or tea, they seem to go to tea plant to pick tea leaves! it takes ages. the entire resort was so slippery and there were many many people who slipped and had major injuries . there were ambulances on a daily basis. The Oasis spa is located higher on a hill, and we have to take very narrow, and slanted steps of roughly 100 steps . St lucia is rainy place, even during the relatively dryer season. so most of the time, there were puddles, and wet areas, and because these steps are all slightly sloped, it is very dangerous. there were stairs everywhere. going into the gym- many people fell off, because they are slippery too. In the Spa, stairs everywhere.
Tao restaurant - it is supposed to be up market restaurant, at least they try to pretend. but the food is sub standard, the menu selection is very limited, drinks are sub standard, service bad.
Oh, lastly, but not least - it takes 2 hours from the airport - taxi or mini-bus up and down the narrow winding mountain road. there is helicopter, if you add the time to go to heliport, and the time from the heliport to the hotel, you don't save much time. even if you do, your luggage had to come on the road.

Room Tip: don't go.

Dear Guest,

Thanks for sharing your concerns with us. We regret to hear about your experience at The BodyHoliday considering your previous review about your stay with us. Although, we are sorry you felt you had cause for complaint, I would have loved to discuss any issues that you may have had as we always like the opportunity to sort them out as and when they occur.

At The BodyHoliday, we implement measures to ensure an atmosphere of constant safety to all guests. We are conscious of the fact the stairs leading to the wellness centre could be a challenge to some of our guests and have systems in place for guests who are unable to traverse such a route. We offer complimentary shuttle service to all guests desirous of opting for this service and encourage them to make use of it. Our culinary team works really hard to ensure that our guest pallets are satisfied and do apologise that this was not the case for you.

Your review and experience is not in line with the standards that we constantly strive for and therefore take on your comments constructively.

Please contact me directly at Stephen@thebodyholiday.com so I can better understand your situation.

Warm Regards,

Stephen Husbands

I've just returned from a 10 day stay in gorgeous St Lucia with my family. The transfer takes nearly 2 hours and is a real grind so I'd suggest the helicopter transfer (which we did going back) as this was spectacular.

The hotel has amazing amenities and is perfect if you're active and enjoy sports. The trainers are fun and well meaning although the classes I did were a bit ill prepared and not well structured.

I attempted a morning run (only for the very brave) and unfortunately came off the road and damaged a ligament in my foot. The trainer was ace getting me back to the hotel, where I was put in a corner of reception and then more or less ignored, in a lot of pain and bleeding from cuts. It took a passing guest to rescue me (thanks Mary! ;-) ) get me cleaned up and back to my room. The staff were pretty appalling in their lack of concern.

The food is pretty good - particularly breakfast and lunch - with mostly good attitudes and service although - yet again - a few bad apples tainted the experience.

The treatments were high class and I also had two sessions of Physio with the on site Osteopath (Lucy) and she was excellent too.

The ops manager (Prisca) is a consummate professional and a joy to deal with. Top British hotels would be lucky to have her......

I had room 321 which is a great position with lovely views. All the rooms I saw were pretty basic and not 5* standard. They are fair for the price though.

The owners appeared on site about halfway through the holiday and surprise surprise the service levels shot up! If only it could be like that all the time.

I would return to the body holiday as the facilities are amazing.

Room Tip: room 321 is a great spot

Our third stay proved that this hotel's business model is working. Our experience was pleasant and exactly as last time in many respects. The food is better than it was after the immediate refurbishment two years ago. However, the management is not as generous with late checkouts and room upgrades as on previous trips. Even the free t shirts are no longer the collared polos but less attractive (cheaper) collarless ones. There are no longer spa credits given as part of the packages and no more male therapists( they tend to give firmer massages) for the inclusive treatments. Generally, the hotel is still fun for all ages and I would most probably come back every so often. I would prefer if there was a separate dining room for people wanting to maintain or lose weight because the food, even though it's health conscious, can be high in calories. Unless you excercise vigorously you will gain weight. They should pamper repeat guests a bit more as we are the ones bringing more business in and spreading the word. I have at least three friends and one high end travel agent that have started coming here as well.

Really enjoyed my stay here last weekend. Lots to do if you want, or like me, do as little as possible ! Loved the daily treatments. Beach was lovely and every member of staff was polite and charming. Wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

This is our fourth stay at the Bodyholiday. The upgrades that the resort has made over the past several years have established it as a true world class spa and dining destination. Perhaps more significant is the performance by each and every one of the staff members at the resort. From the Bodyguards, treatment specialists and wait staff to the management personnel working behind the scenes, every member of my group was consistently met with a smile and helpful attitude that made their stay memorable. Thanks to all: We'll be back!
