The resort manages to create a true feeling of a friendly members club in five star surroundings. The activities are endless and all encompassing including exercise classes, sports and spa treatments.
On arrival you are given a booklet listing the activities available hour by hour each day. Classes and teaching sessions start from 0630 ending any 1900 giving you the opportunity to pack in a full day if that is your thing. Sports include archery, tennis, golf, walking, swimming, kayaking, sailing, windsurfing to name but a few. The exercise classes are just as varied with spinning, yoga, step, box fit, Pilates, stretch classes and many more. My visit coincided with 'Jive June' so the daily schedule also included dance lessons led by the wonderfully talented Jennifer Benavidez.
All of the classes are run by professional instructors who care just as much about all abilities enjoying their holiday as they do teaching their sport or activity. Trying new things is encouraged in an atmosphere of friendship.
If you have arranged your daily free inclusive spa treatments prior to arrival you receive a printed schedule together with a confidential medical questionnaire which just asks some simple questions to ensure each of the treatments are safe for you. The inclusive treatments are available at the Wellness Centre which is high above the resort via a long steep flight of steps. At the end of a busy day a full body massage soon makes the effort worth while. Additional cost treatments are also available with a broad range to suit most budgets.
The resort has direct access to the beach and two swimming pools. One pool up by the guest rooms offers a quiet sunbathing atmosphere with a jaquazzi. The other infinity pool nearer the club house is surrounded by four poster style lounge beds and sun beds but is regularly used for scuba practice and aqua fit, so is more lively. All sun loungers come with a nice red flag on a pole, which when raised alerts the serving staff to your need for a drink. You will even see staff wading into the sea delivering drinks to the floating loungers in the sea. Very decadent.
Food is always an excellent quality. You have a choice of two buffet selections for lunch and snacks are available at the deli all day, including paninis, wraps, smoothies and delicious cakes. Classic afternoon tea is served in the late afternoon in the clubhouse. Evening dinner is available with formal dining at three restaurants and casual buffet in the clubhouse.
The main bar is in the clubhouse, where evening entertainment takes place after dinner. Mostly local live bands or on one night a classic movie. Drinks are available all day together with a broad list of alcoholic and non-alcoholic cocktails. In the evening the Piano Bar is a good meeting place before dinner and provides a quieter atmosphere.
Throughout the resort there are too many small touches to mention like cold face cloths delivered to your sun lounger. Pims in the afternoon. The ice cream cart or smoothies from the deli. In the evening when you return to your room you will find your bed turned down and a tray of green tea ready to help you drift off o sleep.
I traveled alone as I have done a few times and can honestly say this is the friendliest resort I have been to. Staff are allocated as body guards, always present to make people feel included and welcome. If you are traveling alone you will find them waiting outside the piano bar at night. Let them know you'd like to be included on the communal table and they will have you chatting to new friends before you know it. Taking part in classes and team sports is obviously another way that people get talking. In my two week stay I never ate dinner alone and made many good friends I hope to see again.
I stayed in a Garden Room usually allocated to single travellers. Nicely furnished but lacking natural light because of its position, I was happy enough. Booking early gives you more reasonably priced upgrade options with sea views and as much luxury as you choose to pay for. The room had a small fridge, a good hair dryer, iron and ironing board, iPod dock and plenty of space. Standard sockets meant that my UK plugs didn't need adapters.
I travelled in June when the weather is wet and the mozzies are plenty full. Come prepared and its not a problem. Ask housekeeping to spray your room each night and keep spraying on that smelly stuff.
I met many people who return here year after year and I can understand why. Every effort is made to encourage a friendly atmosphere and standards are high whether it be food, drink, cleanliness or furnishings. Above all when I return it will be for the people........and of course the joy of being waited on!
