My husband and I went to the Sandals Regency during the week after Easter (March 24 to March 31). This was a our third Sandals visit. We have also been to Sandals Grande Ocho Rios in Jamaica and Sandals Royal Hicacos in Cuba (this doesn’t show up on the Sandals website as those that live in the States aren’t able to go, unless they go from somewhere else). We had a great time while we were there. We didn't do much while we were there besides sitting by the pool and a few excursions. We did visit the other 2 sandal resorts and felt that we had made a good choice in staying at the Regency. We did talk to another couple that was staying at one of the other sandals on the island and they had felt that they had a good choice of where they were staying. When we had arrived in St. Lucia, we went through customs relatively quickly. Once we made it through customs, we made our way to the van that would be transporting us to the resort. Yes, the drive takes about an hour to get there and through winding roads. It isn't a drive for those that get motion sickness, but isn't as bad as some make it out to be. Once we got to the resort, we were escorted to a room were we were given our room numbers, keys and any other information that we needed to know. My husband and I found out at this time that we had been upgraded to a Beachfront Oceanview Room. We had booked a Luxury Oceanfront room. Our room was one of the upgraded rooms, that is apart of the main building, by Arizona's. With this room, we didn't get a full balcony, just a french balcony. We felt that this wasn't going to be an issue since we weren't going to be spending much time in our room. We found that it was great to leave the balcony door slightly open when we were sleeping as it was nice to listen to the ocean. It was a calming sound to listen to while sleeping. We would keep the air conditioning on during the day to keep the room clean as well as keep the door open during the evening. We went on a couple of excursions. We did the Land and Sea excursion. We had enjoyed this excursion as we were able to get the best of both worlds. We were able to get allot of information about the country. On this excursion, we got to see a banana plantation, 2 fishing towns, the drive in volcano, and the botanical garden. The sea part of the excursions was great as well. They provided plenty of drinks as well as made a stop so that you could get into the ocean and do snorkeling (only if you had previous experience) or just enjoy the ocean. The only downside is that I wouldn't recommend this to any one that gets motion sickness as this may not be the ideal trip for you to take. We also booked a taxi and went into Castries to the market and wandered around the market and the duty free shops. It cost us $20.00 round trip. We were able to find some things that we liked and brought them home. We also were given a basket of goodies from the resort to bring home. It included some spices that are special to the island. We also went to Pigeon Island, while we were visiting the Grand. We enjoyed visiting this island as it was full of history. We did do a lot of walking while here. There is a good amount of going up hill, but was great to get to the top and see the view. From here, you can see Martinique (but can also see it from the pool, but isn’t the same from when you are at Pigeon Island. As for the food, we did enjoy our meals. We tried all of the restaurants but 2. We didn't go to Kimonos and La Toc as there didn’t seem like there was anything that we would like. My husband also has allergies to sea food, so we didn't want to take a risk of eating at Kimonos. These are the 2 restaurants that you need to make reservations for, make sure to do it as soon as you get to the resort as they book up rather quickly. Out of all of the restaurants, I would have to say that Armando’s was my favorite. This is the Italian restaurant and I did particularly enjoy the main meal. We did also enjoy the buffet dinner at the Pavilion on our first night. It was during this evening that the steel drum band was playing and they were really good. For the rest of the week, the Pavilion served a seated meal and had different entertainment. Most evenings, my husband and I would venture to the Pavilion for the entertainment after dinner. We would usually eat breakfast at the Pavilion. We did enjoy it, but were disappointed with the selection of the fruit. It was very limited in what they had considering it was a tropical island. We did enjoy the drinks. They were definitely great. The bartenders were willing to make you whatever you would like to drink. They had a variety of liquor, so you could get whatever you wanted. Over all, we enjoyed our time and enjoyed the resort. The ocean is rough at this resort, but it is calmer at the other 2 resorts.
Overall, we did have a great time and would go back to the resort. What needs to kept in mind is that this is not a 5 star resort as compared to what other countries would classify as a 5 star resort, it would be about a 3/3.5. This will need to be kept in mind when booking a room at this resort. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me and I will gladly respond
