Hey everybody,
I wanted to write a review of the Sandals Regency since I've seen some stuff on here and figured I'd give my 2 cents. First off, so that you can level set where I'm coming from, I drink Bud Light, pay to get the MLB package so I can see the Yankees, and pay the ESPN package to get the Florida St. games so that I can see the Noles go 7 and 6 year after year.
Having said that, if you're still reading, the Sandals Regency is a great time, if you're on your honeymoon or anniversary. For the guys out there - they only server Piton beer (which is local) which kinda sucked for me because I tend to drink Bud Light (and then more Bud Light), but, if that doesn't suit you, as it didn't me, you can always switch. I ended up drinking Absolut on the rocks (the mixed drinks were good enough, but if you're from the northeast and REALLY ready to drink as I was, trust me, just hit your booze on the rocks).
If you want to meet people and be social, head to the main pool, that's where everyone is at during the day. Its a good time, the music is playing, the staff is friendly and besides, you're in the Caribbean, how can you have a bad time?!?
As far as entertainment, I cannot stress enough - if you are a fan of country music at all, GO SEE COWBOY EDDY. He WAS AWESOME. He takes requests (singers more so than songs) and you are guaranteed a great time. We went a couple times, mostly because I needed a "kick start" to the night and there was nothing like listening to Johnny Cash followed by Kenny Rogers followed by Tim McGraw to get the night started.
The late night club is cool and fun - as long as you're okay with people who can't really dance having a good time (and I only know this because I was out there dancing). The music is kinda old school - Coolio "Gansta's Paradise" and the like - but by that time, honestly, you should be ready to cut loose! And, if you get hungry later, the Arizona Grill is open til 3 a.m. and they make great cheeseburgers (if you've ever been to Tallahassee and had a Gut Box or been to Dallas and had a late night Whataburger run you know what I mean).
Outside all that, I would say that your fun is what you make it - if you want to be social head to the pool, if you want to enjoy the beach, hit one of the kayaks or one of the giant tricycles they have available.
Oh, and don't forget to do the zip line - that was AWESOME. Its an hour drive to get there, and although it lasts like an hour it will seem like it went by in 12 minutes. But it is TOTALLY worth it. It was one of the highlights of our trip. If you get the chance, hop on the bus with Greg - he was a GREAT tour guide.
And, we had a fridge with soda, water, and juice (and champagne!) - if you run out of anything, just ask. We typically had a pre-dinner cocktail every night (champagne and OJ or pineapple) and if you run out, the staff was more than happy to help out. As the motto goes "no pressure, no problems" - so if you run out of anything, JUST ASK. If you don't, you may end up waiting for awhile. Don't wait around - if you need something (a drink, a bottle of champagne for your room, whatever - just take care of it!). The champagne was free for our room, all we had to do was ask - so do the same - the staff is awesome - after all, you're in the Caribbean - drink up man!
As far as the food/restaurants - the Japanese place was awesome. If you've ever been to a Mongolian grill type place, that's what it was - they cook the food right in front of you - it was really good. The Italian place was good too, although it was a little more "date night" - not that that is a bad thing, just that its darker and more ike you're on a date. I would also recommend anyone go to the Pier - you just take the shuttle over - its a great restaurant, the sunset is awesome, the food is great and I would definitely recommend it.
The lunch buffett by the main pool is okay, I enjoyed it b/c you can get alot of fresh fruits and vegetables, and again, if you want to meet people, be at the main pool (oh, and the seats under the umbrellas and in the shade fill up FAST! Like by 8 a.m. FAST).
Bottom line is that everyone is there on their honeymoon/anniversary looking to have a good time and if that's the mindset you go with, you'll have fun. And, keep in mind, the drinks are all inclusive, so if like me you get tired of kinda weak mixed drinks, order booze on the rocks - that's the point of all inclusive. But, you're doing yourself a dis-service if you don't hang out with Cowboy Eddy one night and you don't do the zip line.
