Do not i repeat do not stay at this hotel at any cost, after arriving in st lucia to be advised our first choice hotel had been overbooked we were taken to this scummy looking shack of a hotel, which is a run down filthy dirty rotten hotel which should be shutdown and rebuilt.
bathrooms need condemming, bedrooms need fumigating, all eating areas need barring as no go areas,im trying still to come to terms with this
hotel. we ate out every day breakfast lunch dinner and snacks even though we had cattle class all inclusive status which i wouldnt feed to pigs. im sorry but the hotel will spoil your dream of st lucia as it did for us so stay clear and dont be fooled by other reviews because they hide the truth of this run down prison camp, all women staff were rude to us,managment didnt want to know they say ey your in the carrabean man enjoy it, id rather goto hell than the rex pappillion st lucian. sorry no photos as they are being sent to travel
agents and abta to let them know of this hotel which they claim is tree $tar. stay at home than stay at this hotel please.

Stayed for a week November 2005.

Hotel has everything you could wish for. Superb leisure facilities, Large rooms (cleaned every day, and fresh fruit etc left).
All you can eat (with all inclusive packages) anytime you want it!!!!
Hotel borders an amazing beach.
Car hire if required. Although my tip would to be take CHARLOs Cab (hotel taxi driver). Top bloke.
Hotel entertainment ranges from limbo dancing to Crab racing!!!
Great fun. Dont bother with the more expensive Sandles resorts
This place has all you will need for an amazing holiday in the Carib!!!!!!

“Our daughters wedding and a family holiday”

Papillon by Rex Resorts

We booked this hotel and resort through our local holiday hypermarket and travelled with Thomas Cook. The idea was to have our daughters wedding on the island and in doing so it would enable us to invite our close family and friends along to witness the wedding and also have a sun soaked holiday in paradise. The location and the hotel was fantastic. Our rooms overlooked the beautiful Rodney Bay near Castries. The wedding arrangements were all taken care of by Thomas Cook even the Photographer and video were arranged prior to our arrival. Valerie, the hotels wedding planner did everything she could to make the day a special one, and believe me it was. Nothing was to much trouble. Even the flowers and the pagoda which the ceremony was held in looked magnificent and beautiful. Our Photo's prove it, what a back drop. Valerie is a star as she made the day go without any problems whatsoever. I thoroughly recommend anyone who is considering a wedding in the sun to check up on this location and the hotel.
The hotel itself is one of three hotels on this complex all of which allowed the use of the facilities, bars, swimming pools and restaurants. It must be good as virgin use the hotel for their air crews. We used all the various restaurants on the complex in the 14 days we were there. Check out the restaurant '' Chic " very exclusive but not over expensive, food is fantastic, keep a look out as it used by lots of celebrities to the island. You never know who you will see dinning with you !!!
Our 14 days on this magical island were full of fun and we will have happy memories for may years to come, both of a fantastic holiday but also a dream wedding for our daughter and our new son in law.

“Papillon - going down the pan?”

First off, we have holidayed in the Caribbean for the last five years, we have travelled with Virgin on more than one occasion and we have stayed at a 3* Rex Resort before.
Outward flight - satisfactory, only glitch was part of the meal had cheese with it, as my wife is allergic to cheese (notified to Virgin) therefore she did not receive a full meal. This was irritating rather than a problem as she could leave the cheese to one side.
The hotel - this hotel has gone passed its sell-by date, I'm afraid.
The room we occupied had a smell from the drains in it from the first moment water was sent down the plug hole of the wash basin, it was as if some drain monster had been rudely awakened!! It wafted through the room every time water was sent down the drain. I have a strong constitution (it goes with my job) but my wife was made to feel sick by the smell.
Also, the provided hairdrier in the room did not function.
Both of these matters were politely brought to the attention of the hotel management.
The smell was not rectified, but the maid was told to use plenty of freshener in our room to mask the smell. Fine when the room was empty but once the water in the drains was disturbed, well need I say more.... Maintenance were despatched to remedy the hairdrier. He came he looked, he left - and it remained non-functioning throughout our stay.
We informed our Virgin rep of the 'little local difficulties' he of course was not happy that they had not been sorted but alas was impotent in his attempts to get them remedied.
The food - We've had much better. It reminded me of school dinners it was that kind of institutionalised catering. There were 2 BBQ evenings during our stay - the first was excellent, no problems apart from the drinks being slow to be brought to the table. The 2nd however was a different story, it was chaos. Table set up outside only partly set, no staff on hand to guide guests as tot he format of the evening. It was breezy so the table cloth kept trying to set sail and you had to eat your food in weight order - lightest first - the lettuce was decidedly difficult to pin down!!
Some evenings the food was poor to say the least - the carvery for Thanksgiving Night, was just thrown into the middle of your plate.
Breakfast was consistently good and plentiful.
The lunchtime grill - this was waitress service when we arrived, all very relaxed in the usual Caribbean way - no problem. The grill got a bit busy and the waitress was struggling to cope with all her duties. The answer the management came up with - put on extra staff? Not likely!!! Make it SELF-SERVICE!! Even the waitress (who sole job was now to clear tables and fetch drinks) was dismayed at this action!!!
The grounds - very pretty, plenty of shade, well maintained by a friendly and knowledgeable gardening staff.
Buildings – are not maintained, rainwater goods are missing, roofs leaking (making shiny tiled floors slippy tiled floors), plumbing problems, drainage problems – near the car park area I witnessed several sections of drains being rodded (unfortunately for us we were not sleeping in or near the car park!!)
I believe there to be apathy or a malaise among the management of this hotel which is showing itself in the demeanour of some of the middle management and frontline staff. One example, at dinner one evening we gave our drinks order to the waitress as usual, some twenty minutes later she appeared with the drinks, very apologetic as the bar staff had to go to another bar on the complex to get a corkscrew!!!! That for me just summed up the ‘Heath Robinson’ nature of this hotel.
I got the feeling that Rex Resorts have been screwed so tight by the tour operators that they cannot deliver the service demanded by their guests. This, if true, is such a shame as the location of this hotel is stunning. The hotel needs a facelift; it is decidedly saggy around the edges. The staff needs motivating to be interested in the service they provide.
Return journey – could not really be faulted – just that cheese formed part of the salad for the meal on the plane – promptly changed when brought to the attention of the cabin crew – but I feel I should not have had to tell them having already notified Virgin when booking the holiday.
Overall – disappointing - after all we work very hard throughout the year to afford our week or so in the sun, the least we can expect is to get decent service. This was the dearest holiday in the Caribbean we have had and the most disappointing.

“Loved it!”

Papillon by Rex Resorts

We went to Papillon for a friends wedding - having never been to the Caribbean or an all inclusive resort, I was not knowing what to expect. I can't have been more delighted with everything!

The jounrey from the airport although long, takes you through some beautiful countryside and the taxi driver was willing to give us a running commentary throughout.

On arrival at the resort, we were warmed greeted with a potent cocktail whilst we checked in. That first cocktail will give you an idea of the large measures used in caribbean drinks!! We were very kindly upgraded to a beach front room which was a lovely suprise. The room itself was perfect. Having seen the standard rooms (which were fine) if I went back, I would upgrade and pay the difference. Large bed, lovely white wicker furnishing and a decent bathroom. The double patio doors led out to a private patio and shared garden which led to the beach. It really was lovely.

The resort itself is well kept, clean and tidy. The buffet style food in the two restaurants (available inclusive to Papillon guests) was very good. The lunch restuarant again, good. Changed every night with selections of fresh fish, grilled fish, salads etc and the usual array of tropical fruit. I never went hungry! Drinks are included and plentiful. It was the cocktails and sparkling wine that we drank the most of. Brilliant value considering we paid nothing whilst we were at the resort.

The beach is lovely. The locals, whilst attempting to sell you everything, are kind and extremely friendly.

I do recommend a holiday here. It is so accomodating, friendly and such good value for money. Its not 4 or 5 star as some in the area are but if you want a relaxing, well fed and watered holiday with lovely weather in a very pretty resort, then this is the one for you!
