For the purpose of this review, I will refrain from the travel portion and the van ride from the airport...two things that I challenge anyone to find a positive spin.
Having said that, from the moment we arrived at Rendezvous, they had us at hello!
The very simple check-in process and friendly welcome accompanied by a quick escort to our room to freshen up for dinner was all it took to feel at home. Then it was ready-set-go to 10 days of R and R.
What travellers to this resort will find is that the staff, by and large, are extremely friendly and accomodating. Led by Jhasmine, the General Manager, all staff have been drilled as to the importance of providing a positive guest experience...and they do not disappoint.
Captain Ron's Activities Staff led by Pauline and Johanna and including Deano, Clavi, Joanne and Josie were fantastic at their job without being pushy. They were well aware of each guests limitations and managed to get good participation for each activity they put on. Even when we had a couple of afternoons of rain. they kept the group at large occupied with games and fun activities to deal with the liquid sunshine. The Thursday beach BBQ was a large success and the Saturday night Steel Drum Band had the joint rocking! It was at this event (our third night) that we made our week by meeting 3 fabulous couples from England who we latched onto and every day and evening with them thereafter was better than the one before.
Special mention to the omelet lady...never got her name but she was the busiest at breakfast and did a fantastic job,
F and B staff were outstanding with special mention to Francis, Popette of Castries. She was a delight and we quickly made fast friends with her. So much so that she invited us to what we thought was her niece's wedding, only to find out it was her two nieces' wedding, a double ceremony givng us a fantastic taste of the local culture...give me a double Praise the Lord and Amen on that!!
The Trysting Place offered a nice break from the usual buffet style, and while not a Five Diamond by any means, was very edible and an opportunity to dress a little nicer and be waited on. Thanks to Harry and Carmen for their attention to detail. And thanks to the guitar player who let me sing an Elton John classic with him...it was my pleasure.
From a room perspective, we had a thrid floor gardenview, which I found to be a great location as it provided us with a view of the water and all the grounds...sitting on the balcony every morning and feeding the birds some banana bread and letting them swim in a coffe cup half filled with water was a special treat. The chandeliers in the trees was very "Avatar" like as well.
From a beverage standpoint, the bar staff were superb. Thanks Cookie, Trevor, Kito, Shayne and our other female bar tender who always interacted and made us smile. I am so sorry I cannot remember your name...I feel so bad!
The Champagne Bar was a great finishing touch to the usually fantastic day. Thanks Gilbert for tickling the ivories and for letting me sing along with you as well!
The beach was superb and every day we spent up to 40 minutes "touching the tire" at the western end of the beach. Locals use the beach mostly on Saturday's and Sunday's so we got a green garbage bag from the Beach Bar and filled it on our Monday walk...just our way of giving back to the island!
The Secret River was unique and private and gave couples a nice quiet option. The gym area was well appointed and had everything one needed to work up a sweat.
While there was no TV in the room, there is a big screen in the Hospitality Room above the gym we used to watch the Master's and our Brit friends used to catch up on Premier League Football.
One recommendation is to take advantage of the Body Sport and book the Tao restaurant. We booked with another couple which cut the cab fare in half and it was well worth the trip to that resort to see how that group lives. The restaurant easily lives up to it's five diamond ranking!
Thanks to the Security Staff who did a great job making us feel safe. And thanks to the grounds crew, particularly Anthony, for pristine gardens and greenery.
Thanks to our British friends...Admiral Colin and Lady Ann and Maz and Doug...great new friends who made our trip so memorable.
Jhasmine...you can be proud of your crew and your property...it provides everything a couple needs and, in our opinion, lives up to it's billing a couples first resort.
