Let me start by saying that I poured over Trip Advisor reviews for this resort for 1-2 months before finally deciding that this was the destination in St. Lucia that we wanted to spend our honeymoon at and I do not regret a thing. I will try to be as through as possible and address some points that other reviews for Rendezvous also mention.
First, I want to start out by saying that this review is from the perspective of an American couple in their late-20s, early 30s, on our honeymoon. Starting off we did not do the helicopter upgrade for transportation and this was completely fine. We had a wonderful 1.5 hour ride through the center of the island with 3 other families. We stopped once to get our first pictures of the island, but for the most part the ride was uneventful and this was perfect. Upon arriving, the doorman took our bags off to our room and we were greeted by the staff with cold drinks and a cold towel. We were then led off to our room where our bags were waiting.
The room: We had a luxury beach front apartment on the bottom floor. This was perfect. 25 yards from the beach, very clean, excellent air conditioning, spacious bathroom, large and comfortable bed. The only issue we had was that the glass in the bathroom (by design) does not go wall to wall, so if you were tall like me, water would deflect and get on the floor. This created puddles that were more of an issue for house keeping than anything. Overall, the room was lovely. A perfect place to unwind at the end of the day!
The food: Like many other reviews have said, the resort has a sit down restaurant calling "Trysting place". We had reservations there one night and we were not impressed. The portions are smaller and we found the service to be significantly lower than at the terrace buffet. If it were up to me, I would have eaten every meal at the buffet. They work on a 7 day rotation, so if you are there a week or less, you will not see repeats of the "featured" items. We felt that they did every style of food well (except Italian, which we consider the easiest to do - oh well). They have stations for eggs cooked to order, pancakes, waffles, paninis, calzones, pizza, and other grilled offerings. They also have a great selection of juices and fresh fruit.
Attire: This seems to be a "new" issues in reviews so I wanted to partially agree with the commenters that we did notice that, but it was not "that big" of an issue. It certainly did not keep us from having a good time. It occurs on such an infrequent level that it is not worth mentioning, in my opinion.
Now for the fun stuff! They have an activities board that is updated daily with different things you can do if you don't just want to sit around and lay in the sun. I get that some people find this relaxing, but as a 27 year old former athlete, I can not just sit around all day, I need to be engaged. Thankfully, their staff (particularly Clavi) hosted events daily including Archery, Volleyball, Table Tennis, Bocce, Cricket along with all the other activities that you can sign up for at any time (Water skiing, wake-boarding, kayaking, sailing, scuba, etc! My wife says that Clavi was the best part of the trip because he kept me from pestering her to join me playing Table Tennis...oh well, we both had fun!
Alcohol: Being All-inclusive this is part of the fun! The bars they have a all similar, but very different. The pool bar is obviously less formal and this is where the swim-up seats are. The drinks are fantastic - if you want to be adventurous ask the bartenders (Eric or Glenn were the best!) to make you something special. Ask even for a "Blue Moon" or "Banana-colada" - these were fantastic! Also, make sure you checkout the Champagne bar - it opens at 7 for free premium Champagne for 1 hour - then stays open after dinner, until the last couple retires.
Finally, adventures provided through the resort. The resort pairs up with a local tour company to provide tours for a price. We did the St. Lucia Land and Sea tour. This was WELL worth the money. We had a small group of 10 and an amazing tour guide (ask for Randy to be your guide). I could go much more into detail about this but I will spare you and say that if you get there and they pitch this tour to you, TAKE IT!
Overall, Rendezvous was the perfect destination for our honeymoon. There were many couples in their 40s, 50s, and 60s that were mixed between UK, Canada, and America, but we had a fantastic time and enjoyed our time meeting people here much more than we would have at a Sandals. The staff learned our names by day 3 and we felt at home - which made it very hard to leave. We met some great friends there and plan to visit their countries/cities when we have more time to travel. This resort is a true hidden gem and we can not wait to return for an anniversary in the future. Thank you Rendezvous for giving us a wonderful honeymoon!
