When I visit new places, I seek out local things to do along with some things most tourists want to see and do. I love looking at what everyday life is like in a place, not what's manufactured for the tourists. The market in Castries is a unique example of both. There is a covered stall area that sells the usual touristy things like tshirts and knicknacks but if you go through it, there is another market area that is fascinating if , like me, you like to experience a slice of local life. There are many vendors selling local produce and spices, most of which I would not have a clue what to do with. There are also food stalls where you can get a quick, cheap bite. It was late in the afternoon on a Saturday so there were not many tourists besides myself. This doesn't bother me at all but some people might feel uncomfortable with that.
If you are looking for something different or are a chef who would know what to do with the spices available, definately stop at the market.
