My husband and just I returned from a weeks stay at Sandals Halcyon and we loved it! We were lucky enough to fly into the Castries Airport which was only minutes away.
We were taken to Sandals by the shuttle and were served champagne upon our arrival in the lobby. After that, we were then taken to our rooms. We didn’t waste any time getting onto the beach.
The grounds and gardens were stunning (thanks to Benton and his crew) and the beach was beautiful. We were very lucky to be blessed with perfect sunny days and spent the majority of our time on the beach. The water was turquoise blue color and a perfect temperature for swimming. Our room was small but more than adequate for the amount of time we spent there. (We stayed in the Paradise Pool Deluxe Rooms) It was always clean thanks to Berthalina, who did a fantastic job!
The pools were also very nice, both having swim up bars. The Sunset pool is where the action is, but if you want a quieter setting, the Paradise Pool is where to go. We spent some time there and it was very nice and relaxing. They even have Tea Time at 4 PM each day and serve tea with small sandwiches, cakes and cookies.
The food was very good. We had our breakfasts and an occasional lunch at the Bayside. The Bayside is more of a buffet but you could get eggs, French toast, pancakes etc. fixed especially for you by the cooks at the grill, and the same at lunch with pretty much anything you want. The Beach Bistro was great if you didn't want to do the restaurant thing. The grilled chicken and fish were delicious and there was always fresh fruit and munchies, and Gregory was the awesome bartender who always took care of us. Of the two formal restaurants, we preferred The Pier, but Mario's was very good too. The Pier had more of an island cuisine and Mario’s was Italian. If you like to eat dinner early, be sure to get your reservations in early for these places or you could end up eating at 9 or later. Another dining option was to go to one of the other Sandals Resorts on the island. The shuttle was very convenient and left hourly. We went to the Sandals Grande and had dinner at the British Pub which was OK, but not great. My husband was disappointed that they didn’t British beer or Bangers and Mash. I’m sure that the other restaurants were great, but we did not go to any other Sandals after that, because we were very content to stay on the beach until sunset and then go for a late dinner at The Pier.
There was always plenty to do. We went snorkeling which was a lot of fun, and we also took an excursion to the Rain Forest and had a guided hike with Shane and Shawn. The forest was awesome! We also 'tried" to water ski, went out on the Hobe Cat, went tubing and kayaking. The night life was kind of quiet, but they did have Karaoke night, Lovers Night, and Dan at the Piano Bar. If you want more action you could always go to one of the other Sandals, but the Halcyon was perfect for us.
Sandals provided us with a complementary fifteen minute photo shoot which we had done at sunset. Herris took some beautiful pictures and we bought the CD.
We were able to go to the other Sandals Resorts if we wanted to and we did go to the Grande. It was nice but very big compared to the Halcyon. We also saw the Regency when we went to pick up another couple for the Rain Forest hike. It was also very big and was situated on top of a hill. The Regency is great if you enjoy golfing, but we were told that you had to take a golf cart to get you down to the beach. We preferred the smaller intimate setting of the Halcyon. Our main goal was quiet and relaxation. The beach was only steps away, and the staff was always friendly, helpful and very personable. (Celina was a great hostess) We loved St. Lucia, and would definitely stay at the Halcyon when we return.
