Harmony Suites are actually in Rodney Bay, St Lucia, and offer a good standard of room, for a smaller establishment. They are handily within walking distance of Rodney Bay Shopping Mall and many restaurants. We stayed for a week Bed & Breakfast in December 2007 in a waterfront suite, and although we had a relaxing time, I would not return to S Lucia, as I think the other Caribbean Islands such as Barbados offer better beaches, friendlier people, and better roads!
Check-in was a pain, the room I requested was not available, and there is no curtesy pack in your room, only a few measly coffee and tea sachets. This is a very small place, the tiny shop attached to Harmony Suites was closed on our arrival, and after a hairy 90 minute drive through deadful roads from the airport, we really needed some cool water - also nobody helped with our cases etc, sadly this seemed typical of the service at the restaurant 'The Edge' too. We had our breakfast at 'the edge' but I was not at all impressed, and missed it some days as I could not be bothered waiting for 30 minutes for a very average breakfast. We had our evening meal twice, and this was of an excellent standard, but a bit pretentious, and pricey. We tried other local restaurants, and preferred these much more.
We were not impressed with Reduit beach, lots of beach vendors, and choppy waves, not the turqoise water and white sand we were expecting. We did however hire a car and visited Marigot Bay, which was in a wonderful spot (when you eventually find it), and we travelled to see the Pitons, on probably the worst roads ever -it took us 2.5 hours to go 20 miles! Again you are quite hassled near all the attractions, and we ended up with an unwanted local guide who insisted on staying with us, and then asked for £80!! We also visited Pigeon Island, and found the beach there (near Sandals) much superior to Reduit Beach. The Weather was overall quite poor, lots of heavy showers, locals not overley friendly, and not much to buy, goodness knows how the local people afford anything .
We did meet some lovely people who were staying at the Harmony Suites, and we enjoyed the fact you could sunbathe there without the hassle of vendors, and there is an excellent scuba diving firm, on site. Overall though St Lucia has a long way to go, to catch up with the other islands we have been lucky enough to visit.
