We spent a relaxing and fun week at the Royal. Rooms were clean, spacious and the cleaning staff very friendly. Nerissa at the front desk went out of her way to make our stay a memorable one. She is fantastic and if we had a concern she took care of it right away. Darren at the front was also friendly, helpful and always ready to answer any questions. Troy at the pool bar is always smiling and happy to make you any drink. The beach in front of the Royal is the best of Reduit Beach and Rodney Bay. The Royal has beach roundels only for Royal guests There are security guards that watch the beach area and will ask people who do not have purple Royal towels to leave. Locals will approach you to talk and see if you want to purchase anything, like jewelry, but if you say you are not interested they will leave. We actually enjoyed talking with the locals and watching the children during their soccer/swim practice on the beach one evening. Boy, they are in good shape! We ate a few meals at the Royal. One review mentioned the beach food service was slow. We did not find this a problem. Yes, if you want to eat lunch in 15 minutes then you will not be happy but no problem waiting as you are relaxing and reading on the beach. They now have flags that you stick in the sand if you want to order or just order at the lunch area with the staff. Food was very good. We ate one dinner at the Royal. It was a romantic beach buffet with the tables set up right on the beach and a bonfire going. Also 2 buffet breakfasts, which were fine. Some of the staff were not the most friendly in the morning but others make up for it. It is wonderful to look out on the water and enjoy a morning cup of coffee. Tons of restaurants in the area and across the street. Enjoyed the Buzz, Memories of Hong Kong and the Edge. Our favorite meal was in the main town of Castries. The restaurant is called the Coal Pot and is busy so best to make a reservation. We walked around the town market in the morning and then had a wonderful lunch at the Coal Pot.
Our only disappointment was Tennis. They say they have tennis courts but they really don’t. The 1970’s shag carpet they use as the surface has mounds of grass/dirt everywhere and a broken ankle is sure to result from extended play. We really like to play tennis so we had to hop in a cab whenever we wanted to play. They would be wise to fix this if they promote having tennis courts
Lots of tours and adventures to explore around the island as you want. Instead of the large tour operated catamaran ride we opted for a small more personable way to explore the coast and it was fabulous. Look for the bright Rib Rides Inflatable Boat, operated by Bernard and Michael. They go up and down the beach but park usually after 900am in front of the Rex Resort Restaurant. They take 2- 10 people for day trips along the coast and offer half day trips to Marigot Bay or full day adventures to Soufiares were you can easily grab a cab and see the Sulfur Springs and the waterfall. We did the full day and had a blast as Bernard pointed out certain resorts and facts along the way. You can go as fast or slow as you want as the boat can speed along which was amazing. Their number is (758) 718 7941.
