We just got home from our trip to St. Barths and we bought the SPREE (5 night) package. I HIGHLY recommend the Guanahani! The rooms were wonderful – we stayed in the ocean bay room (room #66) which gave us an amazing view of the ocean and we had a very nice private porch which we had breakfast on each morning. We also loved the beach at the hotel. It’s located in a cove so the water is shallow and calm. The hotel beach had these great permanent tikki umbrellas and very nice chairs. I had a massage at the beautiful spa which was very good. I recommend reservations for appointments because they seem to keep busy. Also, the guests were elegant and chic, but still laid back and casual. The front desk and concierge were also very friendly and helpful.
We ate at both of the restaurants on the property and both were good (very expensive though – 30 to 45 euro’s for entrees). Service at the restaurants was on the slow side, but the staff was friendly.
Other restaurants that we tried on the island:
La Mandala – in Gustavia for the most amazing view at sunset. Really good Thai food and a hip atmosphere.
Do Brazil – cool/ very casual spot right on Shell Beach. Good food, slow service, fun atmosphere.
Pirpiri Palace – Gustavia Pretty tropical garden setting. Good eclectic food, moderate prices, and a friendly staff.
Eden Rock: the food was good and the view is nice (I would prefer day / sunset as opposed to when it’s dark). It’s very expensive for what you get and I can’t say that it was all that memorable. I would suggest drinks and appetizers at the bar instead of dinner.
We’ve stayed at other 5 star hotels around the world and we were very happy that we chose Guanahani. We liked the small/mid size hotel – it never felt too quiet or crowded. After St. Barths we went over to Cuisinart on Anguilla and there is just no comparison. Guanahani is elegant and chic and the island is sophisticated without being pretentious. We’ll certainly go back!
ENJOY!
