As a female solo traveler, I felt very safe and comfortable at Hotel Emeraude Plage. I spent one night on St. Barth May 24, 2007.
Emeraude Plage rooms are all bungalows. There are garden view and oceanview rooms. I stayed in an oceanview room. The hotel doesn't really have a full restaurant. The beach bar serves as the restaurant. It does have a menu. I had the crepes that morning. They were not the best. However, the drinks are very good.
ROOM: I stayed in bungalow #2. I loved it. There is a flat panel wall mounted television, queen size bed, desk/chair, phone, and table.
BATHROOOM: The bathroom was very nice, too. When you enter the bathroom, it feels like you're outside (somewhat). The ventilation is from outside air and you feel like the ceiling is an atrium. Also, you have to have a converter for the electrical outlet if you plan to use your curling iron or electric shaver. There is a hand held hair dryer in the bathroom and toiletries.
KITCHEN: The bungalow has a full kitchen OUTSIDE on your patio. Yes...full kitchen meaning fridge, microwave, stove/oven, and sink. I didn't use it since I was only there one night.
LOCATION: Great location on St. Jean Beach. Walking distance to all of St. Jean's shops, Eden Rock, and Tom Beach Hotel. I walked everywhere. You're basically right in the middle of everything.
COST: $303.00 USD
ISLAND TOUR: I highly recommend taxi driver Greaux Emile. [--]
DRIVING on ST. BARTH: Do to attempt it unless you are use to driving in Malibu, California in the hills off of Pacific Coast Highway.
